The whole point of covering a song is to let the artist play it how they feel it. It's not supposed to sound the same or even better. It's supposed to sound like Kyuss playing Into the Void.

Kyuss did a great job adding extra heavyness, lenght and groove to this song. Moreover, they showcased what their major influence is, which is essentially, IMO, drawn from the exceptional album Master of Reality. They somehow translated the Sabbathian' early doom and sludge into a sound that belongs to the desert! It's all so incredible, I can't accept that Kyuss is so unknown and not given enough credit to.

When people cover a song they need to play it the way they play, not the way the original artists play. Thats what Kyuss did. Look at hendrix, whenever he covers a song, he plays it hendrix style.

It's not about who did the better version. Black Sabbath is the most influential metal band in history, whose legacy if far beyond any other bands. That's just a fact. And into the void is one of Sabbaths best songs ever.
Kyuss is not even close to Black Sabbath. Everybody with just a little common sense will know that. However - This tribute is played with respect to the original, and with just the right touch so everybody knows that this is Kyuss playing.

    Lyrics:
Rocket engines burning fuel so fast
Up into the night sky they blast
Through the universe the engines whine
Could it be the end of man and time?
Back on earth the flame of life burns low
    Everywhere is misery and woe
Pollution kills the air, the land, the sea
Man prepares to meet his destiny, yeah
Rocket engines burning fuel so fast
Up into the black sky so vast
    Burning metal through the atmosphere
Earth remains in worry, hate and fear
With the hateful battles raging on
Rockets flying to the glowing sun
Through the empires of eternal void
    Freedom from the final suicide
Freedom fighters sent out to the sun
Escape from brainwashed winds and pollution
Leave the earth to all it's sin and hate
Find another world where freedom waits, yeah
Past the stars in fields of ancient void
Through the shields of darkness where they find
Love upon a land a world unknown
Where the sons of freedom make their home
Leave the earth to Satan and his slaves
Leave them to their future in their graves
Make a home where love is there to stay
Peace and happiness in every day

Homme was just on Joe Rogan saying how he used to get pissed when people would mention Sabbath in comparison to Kyuss. Said he hated metal n never even listened to any Sabbath growing up. Then you hear this n wonder wtf was he ranting about on the Rogan podcast. This is the best cover of a Sabbath song ever

There are several old interview clips on TH-cam here as well where he talks about Sabbath being music 'your dad listened to' or something along the lines. He sounds kind of pissy about it as well so I found it baffling to find this cover after seeing him deride them several times in interviews.

@@MM-bm5zx I've seen this before, I think he has always tried hard to craft his rock 'n' roll image, more so than any other artist in the genre in recent memory (most recent QotSA album is borderline parody of that imo). I guess eschewing any metal association is part of that, I guess it ain't 'sexy'.

I find that unlikely as QOTSA have covered Paranoid and obviously this cover
