    Generally speaking, I despise these gift type videos as they are generally sponsor generated junk. This video was different, I found quite a few items that would be useful in my shop and not a bunch of gimmicky stuff. Great video, thanks for doin this and keeping it honest.

    I like the list, and have many of the items already; I am placing an order for a couple more! A word of caution; the recommended deadman switch is rated for low Amperage only, and using it on a high load shop tool can damage the motor. The switch in the link has only 18 Ga. wire. Amazon has switches rated for 15 Amps, which is the highest current load commonly found in home shop tools, that is a better choice.

    The hook and loop sanding discs are GREAT! When the disc abrasive is no longer useful, I will use a spray adhesive on the spent sanding surface, and on the back of a piece of every day sand paper, cut into a circular shape to match, and then pop the holes into it to match the hole pattern (put small starter holes before attaching, then hitting all the holes is even easier). Works actually surprisingly well.
    Absolutely agree on popsicle sticks!

    Great list! Some additional buys are: LED headlamp, nut and bolt gauge, and a small bullet level. Man - there are so many great items for around the shop.

    Excellent list of tools and gadgets for the Woodworker i did Woodworking professionally for over 20 years and as my hobby for over 30 years now i also use the Bic 7mm mechanical pencils and i love Bucket Boss products for their long term durability by far their shop Aprons have held up better than any other brands especially for the money ironically i bought my very first one in one of the pricey Woodworking Supply Stores and i was surprised on my own self paying their high price tag at the time but it turned out to be a good thing as it was my first Bucket Boss product of many more over the years

    go with the howard leight headphones for shooting with adjustable volume. Have a radio playing in the background at normal volume and you can hear it fine, then when the saw comes on it cuts out the amplification, then back to normal when the saw stops. Its really great as you can have multiple people in the shop with ear pro, listening to music and talking to each other at the same time.

    • @weberwoodshop
      @weberwoodshop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tx556 I’ve tried those in the past and although they’re fine for radio it seemed like the sound quality wasn’t great for the type of music I usually listen to.

    Thumbs up on a router lift. I have a Jess-Em router lift II (budget considerations) and don’t know how I lived without it. Changing bits and adjusting depths is easy and takes zero time. Takes all of the resistance out of deciding to use your router table. Also - two thumbs up on the Pastebot.

      Cole l well. I basically was born with a hammer in my hand. Haha. My grandfather was a hobby furniture maker. My dad before he retired and sold his tools was a g/c and had a wood shop to make furniture. I never really got into it until recently. I’m in the trades I have an Hvac business. It all depends on what your looking to get into first. But I start with basics. Hand tools. Check Craig’s regular for good deals on tools that’s how I get a lot of my stuff. A compound miter saw is a must have and shoot to get a slider. Band saw is awesome to have and table saw. You can do just about anything with just those saws. Jig saw or scroll saw is a good saw to have too. A router is good start. Trim routers aren’t too much. Of course some type of sander. If you must only have one I’d get random orbital. But If your going to work with soft wood like say a mahogany top. You would want a non orbital sander as the soft wood will show the cross grain sand marks. Drill set is a must with some bits. Figure out what type of projects you want to tackle first and start with the basics you’ll need for that. It’s a life time of investing in tools. So take your time and have fun with it along the way. Yes there’s a tool and jig for everything. But some creativity you can find ways to get the job done without all the fancy gadgets.

    I would move to sanding nets instead of the red disks. They last longer and the dust collection is that much better.
    I also use senior tongue depressors instead of the craft sticks. They're a little bigger/thicker so they make a great stir stick for thickened epoxies and such.

    3m worktunes are what I wear at work for audio/hearing protection, it's Bluetooth and cordless.
    I may be a little rough on things and so they have only lasted me around 12-14 months on average but the battery tends to last me around 40 hours on a single charge, uses micro USB and they also have a version that has am/fm radio but they cost a little more.
    The Bluetooth version I use is available at Lowes for about $75 roughly, and has a respectable range about 50 yards in the shop with VFD's running and other digital power management systems with no obvious interference.

    I have a Shopsmith I bought in 2003 it is there 50th Anniversary edition. I was introduced to Shopsmith in the mid 80's and purchased one back then and It was the model before the double quill bearing so I upgraded it. I used it for many years and the only part I ever had to replace is the on/off switch. I purchased the new on because of the upgraded fence and table system and other qualities, besides the 50th edition is special as it has a gold motor cover. I use all aspects of it except the drill press I have a free standing one. I use the horizontal drilling extensively. I also have a Rockwell 1.5 hp router I bought new in the 70's and I still use it today. I even purchased new motor brushes and never had to replace them. I have 2 RBI HAWK scroll saws and a Dewalt 788 type one. All my tools were MADE IN THE USA does that tell you something? Great review

    So just FYI, a much better (in my opinion) mechanical pencil is the Papermate sharpwriter, the lead rides inside a corkscrew shaped piece of metal which acts as a spring, and gives you a little bit of cushion so that your lead doesn't break all the time, which I'm sure you've experienced. I've use these for over a decade and highly recommend them. You can get 36 of them for 9.08 at the time of this posting (Amazon) Thanks for the info, hope this helps a little

    The Dewalt MultiTool... Fein may have made them famous in the general public, but the original use was an orthopedic bone / cast (plaster) saw, where the blade frequently came into contact with skin, and didn't cut it open (only minor scratches where the skin may be a little bony)
    On another note, there is a special blade for the multi tool that is specifically for cutting out single gang electrical boxes. I was working a site and the contractor pulled one out and it blew me away. (I had just finished my basement and cut all the outlet boxes by hand.

    Merry Christmas! Great video.
    Torx (star drive) was a game changer for me too. Square drive is a pain especially kreg, and I've even stripped them.
    I've never stripped a torx unless it was at a crazy angle to the screw head.
    Spax are the best I've seen , but GRK makes outdoor screws that fit into kreg pocket holes if you need that.
    Oh, and I've had a cheap $15 clearance multi tool that worked great. Helped tons when we remodeled our floors!

    3M makes a fantastic hearing protection bluetooth headset! I use them while working on the flightline launching and repairing F-15C jets. Biggest most appreciated in my unshop is the little cube type angle gauges. No more trying to interpret angles or squaring up stuff. These are digital down to the 1/10th degree. Also, look at the Rockler miter sled. My gosh. What a great buy. I've thrown out all those crappy ones that I tried to buy and spent hours trying to get them to work right (precision, precision).
    Okay, one more in the gauge department..a digital angle gauge. Get a 12 or 8 inch. Amazon stuff.

    Sometimes I’m not always wearing work clothes that if damaged with glues and finishes make them no longer wearable everyday. I purchased a Duluth Trading Company shop apron that has eliminated that problem. Something I don’t know why I never had. My favorite hand tools are a Wood River wheel scribe, a 5-1/2 hand plane, a 38” straight edge ruler and my homemade shooting board. One item I like to keep around for so many uses are plastic laminate samples from the big box stores. Endless uses.

    I got a pair of the Honeywell Sync Bluetooth headphones last year for Christmas and they are incredible. Audio quality is great, noise protection is great and they also have a boom mic coming off the left ear piece which cancels out ambient noise if you're talking on the phone. I have full conversations when using my ROS and shop vac with those puppies on. Plus they are exceptionally comfortable. Slightly pricey for headphones but I would drop the money on them again in a heart beat.

    That's the most amazing coincidence I have ever seen. I use and cherish every tool and materiel you showed here today except the thickness sander and tiles, and I've been wanting those. Tip: get a pair or 2 of "1-2-3 blocks". They're precision ground metal, and great for temporary jigs and drill press work. A dial caliper is also very handy. Damn, I still can't believe the similarities. I never dreamed anyone used a Starrett scale, popsicle sticks, carpet tape, parts cabinet, magnets, foo...

      1-2-3 blocks are amazingly useful in modeling, Adam Savage put me on to them a few years ago on YT. Heavy, perfectly square rectangular, steel blocks. I work on a much smaller scale, so a few rare earth magnets and these blocks make for silly easy clamping.

    A dremel tool (or rotory tool of your choice) with a spiral or tile bit is the best tool tool for cutting around electrical boxes, windows, door frames in drywall and similar materials I've ever found. I still love my "super tool", "vibro-saw, or whatever you'd like to call it. In the end, use what you have but I assume you have a rotory tool maybe something to try.

    • @weberwoodshop
      @weberwoodshop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      impulse0341 I almost bought them but it seemed like the reviews said the audio isn’t that great in low or highs. Decent mid-tones only. So it’s fine for radio or rock n roll but not great for jazz, classical, etc. I remember that being the case when I tried something similar a few years back. What do you think?

    • @impulse0341
      @impulse0341 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's mostly what I listen to on them... that and audiobooks. But the range is great for the bluetooth, the radio quality depends on the signal reception.

    My favorite tools are dial calipers, dial indicators, sheets of plexi to make jigs and fixtures, parallel clamps, machine squares, sharp drills...
    Now as to your list Mr. Weber.., magnets are a nice idea, unless you grind/cut steel, weld, etc. Chips and grinding dust will stick to your magnetized tools, not too big a deal, it's just annoying.
    And another thing, the scale/rule is spelled 'Starrett' from the L. S. Starrett company.

    • @ajmckay2
      @ajmckay2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ugh - the starrett ruler is now $30 on amazon. Also a tip on the magnets - I use duct tape to remove metal shavings/dust from magnets. Works great.
