An observer is placed similarly to a piston. It observes the block that it is placed against. The texture of the detecting side is that of an observing circle. As observers can activate the state of other observers, placing two adjacent observers, each watching the other, can make a fast and compact bluestone clock.

Hey X realm I've got an idea for fully automatic smelter. First place a cactus on a sand block and then place a observer facing the cactus and connect a piston on the block above the cactus to the observer. Kinda like the sugarcane farm in Minecraft but with cactus. The place hoppers next to the cactus so that when the cactus breaks, it goes in the hopper. Then make an automatic smelter and connect the hopper from the cactus farm to the hopper in the backside of the furnace so that the cactus goes in the fuel section and done!!
