Personally I've found it helpful to put cards into three categories. 1. The cards I want to play/the whole point of the deck. 2. The cards that I need to make the deck functional. 3. The cards that are just there for optimization purposes. Which card goes into which category is a matter of personal preference, as is the prioritization of the categories themselves.
1:02:45 This is the exact reason why I as an editor still like to ask other people about writing. A different perspective is incredibly powerful and I cannot for the life of me think of a context where that isn't true.
I agree with a ton of what was covered, but as a new player, it’s hard to really lean into creativity when trying to also take in so much information. That said, I’m so glad i picked the game up and love learning about cards and gameplay as often as i can.
Love the new card mentioned Gift of the Viper ... Kicks butt in my Perrie the Pulverizer deck. But I must disagree with the point that you cannot ban Sol Ring. I have not played a Sol Ring in 3 years and I will continue because I believe it warps games to easily early.
IMO, the "banes of 2012" commanders are quite a lot worse to play. Not because they're worse, not because they're good - but because they're perfectly fine, but so many players (at least around my area) still target you like you're on a top dog deck when you play them. You start with the handicap of reputation while playing a deck on the same level as everyone else.
I have a feeling y'all would like my Chiss Goria deck. I had the Tooth and the Scale in my collection, and never used them, because they're not great. As soon as CG came out i built a deck just to put them all together
Creative, huh? I have a bant deck with Tocasia, Digsite Mentor at the helm. It's a tap matters deck that kills you with Mjolnir or Throne of the God-Pharaoh or Angel's Trumpet. Edit: To be clear, it's a versatile but terrible deck. I love it so much.
Love EK, so hard-working and has such a creative philosophy for Commander that I personally try to take inspiration from!

That sounds awesome!
