I love the black and white planter! And I would rip up those grass roots, too. I like to take my pruners and slice up the root ball. Sometimes I cut the bottom right off!
Good morning, Corey, everything looking great. My favorite is your first container. You are such a joy to watch so full of useful information. Love all your plant choices, though. Have a great day. The Oklahoma gardener.😊
I absolutely love your channel! Your color combinations and plant combinations are stunning. I have been planting flowers for years and I am known for my gardening. I actually plant for both of my neighbors (they give me full reign to do whatever I want) and truly enjoy it. I inherited it from my mother. Your explanation of what you do and why you do it really works for me well because of the way I think and do things. I stumbled upon your channel early this spring, and it really means a lot to me. Thank you for all the love that you put into your work. It is very much appreciated. Have a great summer and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos to see how all of your pots turned out.
Reoccurring problem with your videos -- timing 😜 You show so many beautiful plants and beautiful combination planters but you're a month behind me in St Louis. Our greenhouse are already cleared out. I've been running around like a crazy old lady hunting down your suggestions like Angelonia and Cuphea 🤣 Thanks to you, I'm trying several plants this year that I've never planted before: Canna, Coleus, Gaura, Angelonia, Cuphea, Rocket Salvia, Caladiums, Wax Begonia, Scaveola, Sweet Potato Vine. The Gaura and Angelonia are new to me. The others I've known about from working in greenhouses but they were never my style -- but you've shown their beauty and usefulness so I'm trying them this year. Thanks to you, I've double my flower purchases..... and credit card debt 🤣 but it's worth it because my patio is exploding with flowers ❤
Corey, I love everything you do. You are such a magician and putting things together. I have learned so much from you and have tried several of the plans that you use Each season. Some work for me some don't. Thank you for your insight and your joy of gardening. Have a birthday the oklahoma gardener
When I saw the Bermuda Beach a few weeks ago when I went flower shopping I fell in love with the color. I usually go for the bright pinks/purplish wave petunia. I planted them about a week after I picked them up and they are fantastic! Keeping the color and the flowers constant. I haven’t noticed any fading. But down here near Ann Arbor it has been raining more than usual.
Love the black and white . First time I've seen black petunias I'd love to come acrossed those here in northern ohio. My grandson picked out a beautiful hanging basket for my daughter for mothers day it was the only one with variety of 2 petunias and a white verbena it was over grown and in much need of tlc. Repotted and fertilized. Looks beautiful it was rootbound and is my first time experiencing verbena. Definitely will be adding more verbena in my varieties. Love the purple ones you got what a beautiful mystery lolLove your videos and all your tips.Ty for sharing your knowledge and experience
I planted almost the same basket as the black and white one corey did. I am pretty much home bound, but I found all of my plants on Etsy. Idk if there would be any still available because I ordered mine at the end of April to be delivered the 1st part of May, but if you are really interested in some for this year that would be a option.
You did fine with the grass Corey. If I have something that's that root bound, I just simply lop off the bottom of it and score the sides. Be interesting to see how they all grow in!
Love all of the containers, so vibrant. Do you think in the future you could list in the description box the name of the plants you have used? It would be so helpful.
You have made me really think about how I use flowers in planters. Always went by color not how they spread. In Indiana we do tons of petunias because we don't know any better 😅.
Corey, that last planter with the Cannova Mango canna, Gardenmeister Fuchsia, Fantasia Flamingo Rose geraniums, Bermuda Beach Supertunia, and the gorgeous Superbena Sparkling Amethyst and Cobalt Blue Verbena mixed is one I need in my garden. Thanks for all the wonderful and fun ideas! I believe that combination of plants will be a beacon for hummingbirds!
It’ll be interesting to see how well the black and white plants play with each other. I know the Supertunia and Superbena are vigorous, but the “Vertigo” is a beast. The white salvia is a stunner!
I'm really interested in the black and white container! I have never thought to put a container together like that, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks throughout the summer!
I love your videos. I have a zone 5 perennial garden, but had limited knowledge of the annuals out there. I have learned so much from you, and now find myself looking for specific varieties. It's also very interesting to learn about plant nursery operations. I'm in a bit of a nursery desert. Big box stores have gobbled them up. Keep up the good work. 👍
You are like the Bob Ross of flowers...we can watch what you do, copy what we like and put a little twist on our own designs. I am doing lots of experimental stuff, using the little water crystals in some pots, and the water mats (like disposable diaper concept in some posts) and first and most importantly, recognizing when some plants aren't happy and moving thrm to different locations or to a new pot all together with other plants. I used to judt give up and let them die off.
I love these combinations! I’m in a decent size city in NC and I can’t find any of these newer varieties. I’ve even had to order the proven winners rockin the blue suede salvia on line. Anyway your containers have been inspiring me all spring so I look forward to seeing how these end up looking end of summer. Please update!

I have not planted anything yet this year. I hope I am not too late. I am in Zone 6 and we have been getting MONSTER hail. This is our hail season and hasn't been this bad in the past. I learned not to plant until after Mother's day and last year I spent the month of May and half of June covering or running containers into the garage to save them. The YT algorithm sent your channel to my feed. I am so glad I did. I can see all the mistakes I have made in the past. I am so excited to take some of your creations to some of my containers. I just hope my nurseries have them still. I wished I could remember all the names of the plants. LOL! I have to make a list. Thanks so much.
I’m experimenting with keeping my iron orb in the container for my summer annuals. I inserted the orb for spring petunias, with curly willow as the thriller, so I left the orb and sticks in the container and switched the pansies for pastel New Guinea impatiens and trailing ivy. It looks fabulous.
With grasses like that, I take my gardening knife and make a big X in the bottom and make a few vertical cuts down the sides. That loosens it up just enough that new roots will grow from there without damaging the plant too much. Also, because it’s very difficult to damage a grass, I’ll put it on the ground and roll the pot with my foot putting some pressure on it and they are usually much easier to remove from their pots that way.❤
Hi Corey I love the black and white combination container! I have been looking for different varieties of plants for that color combination so thank you. Last year I did Black Pearl heuchera w white petunias in two of my containers and they were a big hit! I’ve been looking for cafe latte for two years in my area but these options are awesome 🤩 I will be on the lookout for them on my next visit to the nursery. Hello from NJ 🖤🤍
Love the combos, although I'm not much on the black/white pot. (Maybe a touch of red would be dramatic) Love the color combinations and can not wait to see how they turn out after a couple of weeks or so. Keep bringing us these great videos. ❤
I did a big pot with the black petunias, white verbena and the senocia (sp?) It is silvery with a fuzxy texture but like you said, I needed a tiny bit of color...so did red hot colored zinnias
First i want to say that I learn a lot from you! Amazing! Could you talk about Violas and pansies please 😊 Since we’re getting to the season to plant them.
Love these videos, they help keep me sane! Received a canna in a pot with begonia and some variegated green trailer plant. Not sure if sun or shade but zone 4 so not worried in sun. Wondering if you save the canna bulbs? I've never had one before.
Wonderful video! I heard the begonias don’t like to be fertilized, but calibracoas love to be fertilized. I love the combination and I want to recreate it. That’s why I’m asking. Loving these container videos. Thank you!!!
I fertilize my begonias and New Guinea impatiens less than my other plants, but if they’re in the same pot as others, I just fertilize regularly. Petunia, calibrachoa, and verbena tend to bloom much more with more fertilizer.
I have learned SO Much from you, Corey!!! Thank you!! Do you fill your large planters with fresh soil every year? I have been told I should, but it gets so expensive.
I do, but I know people who only t replace the top 6-10” each year. A lot depends on what you grew before - the grasses and canna we used last year used every bit of available soil.
This was a big surprise to me since I just started getting begonias like Non-stop and Glory, and I am concerned that they won't like the southern sun like the angelonia and calibrachoa which I normally grow. Agree with you on how angelonia is slow getting going and gets covered up by my petunias in the mixed plantings. Even the verbenas have a hard time thriving. I had the mango canna last year and it almost broke out of the pot, and I overwintered it in the garage, and it's huge this year. I have three of the Firecracker Fuschia (variegated foilage) and three of the Gardenmeister which are new for me, but they are doing great for me. They get direct southern sun from 11:30-4:00. Your containers are beautiful especially that last one.
I saw a container with black and bright pink together, it was really attractive. At first seeing black petunias didn't attract me at all but after seeing that planter on main St. Liked it alot
Love that color of the geranium at the end of the video...beautiful flamingo pink I am going to try and find something similar next year...I have been using hibiscus the tropical more this year than I have in past started a friend gave me a standard tree braid and then I bought another to match....😊
I was laughing so hard out loud over that rootball !!! I just love your videos!!! You do such beautiful work and share your honest thoughts and its such a nice quality in a person. I love your channel. Thank you for making my day ...again !!!
I found the latte petunias here in CT this weekend but no luck with the black. I wanted to do my front door planters with bubblegum pink petunias with the black and the latte. I had no idea there were black petunias!
I live in south-central Texas (zone 9a) and we can NEVER plant according to the tag information here. A FULL SUN plant will not survive here in full sun unless it is 100% a dessert native. Even our garden vegetables have to have shade cloth over them to live. We are totally accustomed to throwing caution to the wind when it comes to putting stuff were the tag says it can’t be. LOL.
We’ve had Lania Twister Purple. It sold okay. We have to buy Superbena in higher quantities. When we switched to more of them, we had to cut back on the number of colors and that one got cut. It’s on the list for next season.
@@UpNorthGardenMI I wondered how all that worked when you ordered in your plants. I want a peachy keen superbena really bad. I didn't order it. Soon enough, and now everyone is out. I do appreciate your videos because you use such a variety of plants. I do like the proven winners plants, but it is hard to find them in my area.
When I encounter a root ball as you did with the grass , I use the water hose and just use the full or jet spray and on a medium spray, spray into the foot ball and as it becomes a little bit loose I pull out the roots to spread out. Then put it in the pot or ground
Love your creations 😊 I planted Bees Knees in with some purple and white petunias and dark purple verbena. (I think they’re wave petunias, I can’t remember) Anyways, the purple and white are swallowing up the bees knees. Should I take it out and let the others just grow on? It looked so pretty at first, now she’s being hidden 😢
It might be too established to separate now -- you could try, but it might be risky. You could also trim back the other petunias around it for now and give it some breathing room and see if it can catch up -- Bees Knees normally gets a pretty good size.
Side ? I have cosmos coming up in my perennial bed, which is fine, wanting to keep them shorter versus tall and leggy. Is it good to pinch the tops out of them to get that effect? Love your channel, thank you very much!!!!
The Bermuda Beach has given me a "professional " basket for the first time ever. It has mounded and trailed and i just ended up repotting her and her Verbena friends because they are going crazy.
I’ve done both, and disturbing the roots hasn’t made a difference as long as the roots are healthy and the soil is good - petunia roots are especially happy to find their own way to good soil.
There are no pw petunia annuals where im at in coastal California. But the Bermuda beach looks so much like the Danzigner brand Capella salmon i got. I do like several of the capella series petunia.
You’re right, the color is similar. The Cappella are a bit more compact and take a little longer to get to size (but they have a stunning, mounded habit that starts to trail). It seems like PW is expanding on the West Coast. Janie from @digplantwaterrepeat is working to get more places to carry them in the Golden State youtube.com/@digplantwaterrepeat?si=Lnd-FDzT6CmzmpH1
@UpNorthGardenMI interesting. I think she is in Northern California and im southern California. Also i did put that salmon petunia in with some cherry bells cufea. (Sp?) They look good together as that similar color to the eye you mentioned.
I love the black and white planter! And I would rip up those grass roots, too. I like to take my pruners and slice up the root ball. Sometimes I cut the bottom right off!

I’ve done both, and disturbing the roots hasn’t made a difference as long as the roots are healthy and the soil is good - petunia roots are especially happy to find their own way to good soil.
I fertilize some petunias n they dried, do you know why?
Dried
If they dried out, that is usually a watering issue... or possibly the fertilizer wasn't mixed at a higher than recommended concentration.
wet the pot before taking it out
I did this.this year . Were you peeking?😂
