My friends gifted me an off brand dollhouse their kids were done with. It's been a slow process but I'm working on customizing it. There's never enough room though, so I also designed and build a large wooden one that I'm also customizing. Much better space for display/play but it's pretty large in my space lol

I've bought Barbie houses before, but I can't resist tearing them apart and rebuilding them in my dread image. XD I wallpaper and build in new walls, add floors, by the time I got done, I realized it would have been easier to build from scratch. LOL
The round coffee table reminds me of those little plastic inserts from pizza boxes that were meant to prevent the cheese from sticking to the lid, which is funny because doll coffee table is exactly what I used them for.

It makes me grateful for creators like MyFroggyStuff who share how to expand the worlds for our dolls if we don't care for plastic... plastic everywhere! lol

yeah she's literally been on yt for 10+ years! it's a shame she hasn't reached 5M+ subs yet, i think that most people just watch her vids and ignore subscribing or liking them. i may be wrong though.
She definitely does. I love her crafts and videos. I have over 500 Barbies, and no space to store them all. I have given quite a bit away.... and had kinda drifted away from my dolls for a while. Now I am hoping to turn one of my guest rooms to a doll crafting room...
Loved this comparison. I favor the Malibu House as a doll displayer and not a kid playing. It has classic Barbie architecture pieces like the roof, but is more compact and has pleasant staggered lines for a backdrop on a shelf without being rickety looking. The removable bed is a plus, especially now that we have new game room sets and such. Ultimately, none of the Barbie houses give us large enough rooms to see customized well with a doll in them, so I prefer your wall boxes, but the Malibu house kind-of plans for the rooms to expand onto the shelf in front of it, so that works for me.

Agreed!! Even at the sale price, $80 is a bit rough I reckon. For the size, and the crappy printed walls, Toya could make way better. HAS done way better, and for a tiny fraction of the cost. I'd LOVE for her to do a Malibu and Brooklyn house. Seconding that challenge.

I think the Malibu house is just loads better. It'd be fun to customize, but I think I'd prefer to just make something from scratch. I'd love to see you do more to these, it's always fun to see you take things apart and redo them somehow.
Toya thanks for the review. Saw that white dimensional relief and practically screamed Paint that!! Lol. I saw a blind doll collector review a house from the 80's or 90's, she liked the tactical parts of the house. It had sounds, doorbell, sizzling food on stove, shower sounds, flushing toilets, etc. But she let her fingers rub over the house feeling everything because that's how blind people see. It's fascinating, but not only made me realize that blind people can still enjoy doll collecting, when I've actually thought about this hobby and eyesight in the past. I thought if I lost my sight the hobby wouldn't be fun anymore because so much if it IS VISUAL. Without being able to see colors much would be lost, it's true, by she can't see what the stickers are showing. Her food included a turkey on a plate and other food she could identify, but the boxes in the refrigerator she didn't know what they were. So Mattel needs to put bumps on those muffin pans instead of stickers that can fall off. She was missing a lot of the furniture, I found another review that had most of the furniture and it was a really cool house. The bed came apart to form a chair and ottoman. There were curtains in the window, flowers in the window box, shower curtain it was a really nice house. Goes for a lot of money now. Might have been called Real Living house? I had no idea blind people played with dolls, but why not? If someone helped them pick out a basic wardrobe where everything could mix and match, she wouldn't need as many dolls or outfits, but could still play. I love when my preconceived ideas are challenged and I'm able to understand another person's viewpoint, even if I can't truly know what it's like to be blind. If we close our eyes and just feel the house, does it work? These have a lot of good points like toilets and fridge that open, but the stickers are annoying.
Wow really? I like dollhouse miniatures too, and seems like a LOT of people got into the hobby during lockdown. Either pulling out and old dollhouse kit and building it, or starting a new project. Some went on to be in competition shows even. There was an explosion if growth in the miniature hobby

Like two months or so (this year) the Rainbow high doll was selling for $45 and then $58 now it back to $99 - $199

That Malibu house is WAY too crowded! All the rooms seem small, those stairs are dangerous and there just isn't enough room for any one room/play area. Townhouse definitely is the better buy between the two.
I got the Malibu house for Christmas. I do love it. Still, I wanted more cups. I put the blender on the outdoor fence thing. I decided some of my Barbies were out back having margaritas.
I love aspects of both, but I would personally go with the townhouse. I get what they are doing with the Malibu house in that it's about some outside living and being in that California sun, but it's so tiny. Just...so...tiny. The thing I can't stand is the stickers thing. Would it have killed someone to put in half an inch of plastic for a real looking fireplace and some shelving?
I wish they tried to make them smoother without so many nooks and crannies from the plastic molding on the walls and windows- I’d also love to see you upgrade the doll furniture that’s at dollar tree right now! There’s a big beach chair, vanity, couch, etc

Toya, this is incredibly inspiring. i have the townhouse and i, too, put the fizzy bathtub in the bathroom. It looks SO much better. Funny, i never bothered to get rid of the extra shelving. The thought never even occurred to me. Lol! The orange couch looks way better than the purple one. Good call! i’m going to do some rearranging in my playroom/doll town. And the elevator is definitely getting removed. The Malibu house comes with nice accessories, but i don’t imagine a grown (doll) person living there. All of my dolls are in their 30s and 40s 😄😆

No counter space in the kitchen. Right whose idea was that. I used my blue and pink dishwasher to give us some room to work. The back is grey so it is neutral. I had the My house kitchen unit which is purple, beige, and white. I used that instead of the frig and stove that came with the house. It looked really nice with the purple kitchen floor. So now I have counter space to work on and to set items on, such as canisters or a spice rack. I think I like the Town House the best. But I don't like the design of the kitchen either. Love the huge bathroom.
Does anyone else think that the coffee table in the townhouse looks exactly like that plastic thing they put in the middle of a pizza that's delivered?!?! I can't be the only one!
However the one thing a hate about most Barbie kitchens is that most Barbie kitchens do not have enough counter space to put like toasters and blenders all they have is an oven, stove, sink and fridge all squished together
We had a Barbie Townhouse when we were kids. I distinctly remember the awesome elevator. It was less expensive than the dream house. This was 40 ish years ago.

So, my vote is the better house is the Townhouse, because I have already seen the possibilities. You should re-do them both so we can see what you do to them. (PS Mattel should hire you.) Be blessed.
Yes, once when I was a girl, we were visiting friends in Florida. They ordered pizza for us. The husband gave me the little white thing, calling it a Barbie table. I actually thought it was too small for Barbie, but now every time I order pizza and see one of those, I think of this moment.
I love both houses! But , the townhouse has more things to do for example your Barbie doll can go on a SWING and move it outside which is cool and it has more space which in my opinion! On the other hand the Malibu house is really nice for 1-3 Barbie dolls but it does have little space but it’s nice and all I think that the townhouse is #1
i got the malibu house in 2019. i use some of the furniture with a backdrop i made using cardboard cake boards. the foot spa accessory is my personal favorite from the set.

Nope, not just you! They should really give customers matching dishes and chairs and enough dishes to go around. And I cannot stand printed backgrounds, why can't they give us the real things and real props? Even if thry are sold separately in some cases, I would prefer that over printed backgrounds. It's sad because I really miss some of the quality Barbie used to have back in the 90s. That goes for clothes, houses, etc. For paying $100 full price I don't think the houses are worth it. Your houses you make are a million times better! They should really consider hiring you for designing their houses and playsets. Thanks for sharing!
I got my first folding Barbie house in about 1973. I found the backdrops and sticker accessories frustrating and useless then. They have not improved. And I hate the little pegs and holes on every table they make these days. 100% agree that the cups should be the same color, or at least come in pairs. And if there are 4 chairs then there should be 4 of everything else as well. But I like that there's less pink and I like functional kitchens, rather than just painted background appliances. I use my real blender on my real stove because I have no counter space so it's not unrealistic, just sayin'.
I like the Townhouse better, but the Malibu house' kitchen. I don't like the kitchen stove, oven, sink unit being sideways. I have the Malibu house. I don't know why they didn't give us four glasses. There is no counter space so I use the dishwasher that came out a few years ago. I use the kitchen piece from the My House that came out around 2007-8. It is beige, purple and white so it picks up on the purple flooring. And again using the dishwasher unit it gives it a sink and counter space. The silver back picks up on the silver hood over the stove.
I don’t really have a favorite. I do like table n chairs in both. The swing is nice. But I so agree Mattel could do better with the accessories and the colors. Match the items better and add more items that are on the walls as actual items with the play sets.
I bought a sewing machine, but I cannot for the life of me change the bobbin.... but I do enjoy making a lot, attempting to make a lot of the crafts Toya makes.
Crazy cuz i have a issue with my bottom bobbin on mine. Then it dosent help i dont have sewing machine experience to fix it from not stitching correctly. So i just sew by hand
I'm a wheelchair user and although I don't collect Barbie dolls it took a long time to finally Get a Weel chair barbie. I'd like to see you custo,size the houses and goo gone an exto knife and emery boards are probably already in your tool kit. I keep finding ways to upgrade my doll so gis doll house should be a cake walk for you
I found a blind doll collector reviewing a doll house from the past, it was all about touch. Recognizable shapes for furniture, curtains, food, etc. I was surprised because so much of the hobby is visual. But no reason they can't play too, they just need some more stuff they can feel and less stickers
This is actually a little idea i've had for a while: buy a cheap second hand Barbie house and customise it!! And then add some DIY furniture and stuff
There are lots of videos of people getting second hand dollhouses and redoing them, many as haunted houses, but also barbies stuff too.

We had a Barbie Townhouse when we were kids. I distinctly remember the awesome elevator. It was less expensive than the dream house. This was 40 ish years ago.

Hi, Toya- there is a video out there by Buzz Feed Nifty and she re-did the town house. She did a great job. So, my vote is the better house is the Townhouse, because I have already seen the possibilities. You should re-do them both so we can see what you do to them. (PS Mattel should hire you.) Be blessed.

Yes, once when I was a girl, we were visiting friends in Florida. They ordered pizza for us. The husband gave me the little white thing, calling it a Barbie table. I actually thought it was too small for Barbie, but now every time I order pizza and see one of those, I think of this moment.

I love both houses! But , the townhouse has more things to do for example your Barbie doll can go on a SWING and move it outside which is cool and it has more space which in my opinion! On the other hand the Malibu house is really nice for 1-3 Barbie dolls but it does have little space but it’s nice and all I think that the townhouse is #1
i got the malibu house in 2019. i use some of the furniture with a backdrop i made using cardboard cake boards. the foot spa accessory is my personal favorite from the set.
I had the Barbie talking townhouse as a kid which is purple and I LOVED it I don't think any of the newer dollhouses are very aesthetic tbh

Nope, not just you! They should really give customers matching dishes and chairs and enough dishes to go around. And I cannot stand printed backgrounds, why can't they give us the real things and real props? Even if thry are sold separately in some cases, I would prefer that over printed backgrounds. It's sad because I really miss some of the quality Barbie used to have back in the 90s. That goes for clothes, houses, etc. For paying $100 full price I don't think the houses are worth it. Your houses you make are a million times better! They should really consider hiring you for designing their houses and playsets. Thanks for sharing!

I got my first folding Barbie house in about 1973. I found the backdrops and sticker accessories frustrating and useless then. They have not improved. And I hate the little pegs and holes on every table they make these days. 100% agree that the cups should be the same color, or at least come in pairs. And if there are 4 chairs then there should be 4 of everything else as well. But I like that there's less pink and I like functional kitchens, rather than just painted background appliances. I use my real blender on my real stove because I have no counter space so it's not unrealistic, just sayin'.

I like the Townhouse better, but the Malibu house' kitchen. I don't like the kitchen stove, oven, sink unit being sideways.
I have the Malibu house. I don't know why they didn't give us four glasses. There is no counter space so I use the dishwasher that came out a few years ago.
I use the kitchen piece from the My House that came out around 2007-8. It is beige, purple and white so it picks up on the purple flooring. And again using the dishwasher unit it gives it a sink and counter space. The silver back picks up on the silver hood over the stove.
I wanna see you flip these like remake these dollhouses and give them a makeover. Not so much make dollrooms but like build on or alter the dollhouse
I don’t really have a favorite. I do like table n chairs in both. The swing is nice. But I so agree Mattel could do better with the accessories and the colors. Match the items better and add more items that are on the walls as actual items with the play sets.

I bought a sewing machine, but I cannot for the life of me change the bobbin.... but I do enjoy making a lot, attempting to make a lot of the crafts Toya makes.
Crazy cuz i have a issue with my bottom bobbin on mine. Then it dosent help i dont have sewing machine experience to fix it from not stitching correctly. So i just sew by hand

I'm a wheelchair user and although I don't collect Barbie dolls it took a long time to finally Get a Weel chair barbie. I'd like to see you custo,size the houses and goo gone an exto knife and emery boards are probably already in your tool kit. I keep finding ways to upgrade my doll so gis doll house should be a cake walk for you
I found a blind doll collector reviewing a doll house from the past, it was all about touch. Recognizable shapes for furniture, curtains, food, etc. I was surprised because so much of the hobby is visual. But no reason they can't play too, they just need some more stuff they can feel and less stickers
Towards the end I was expecting you to merge both houses. 😂
