Love these videos, gotta admit: as soon as I saw wailord I immediately thought you would teach it Self-destruct. I dont know if the emerald guide tella you that that's a move he can learn. And I love that a whale can explode, reminds me of that accident :P Still, cool pokemon to add to the team!
another great video. really cool to see you trying out all of these underrated pokemon and giving them a chance to shine. As for suicune, there is the dlc event that allows you to get all the legendary beasts without the glitched stats. you just need an e reader, but its not something everyone would have access to. really nice to see a gen 3 update. i know gen 4 has been the mood lately but nothing beats emerald in my opinion. the game is just too good.
The team's looking great. Keen on seeing how it performs in the Battle Frontier. I agree on your point on not being a "meta slave" on a single player game (of course playing multiplayer competitive on Showdown is a different story). Not sure if that's the right term for it, but I like how it sounds so I'm going with that. I used to always look for the "best strategies" with the games that I play because I don't want to feel like I'm playing "suboptimally." But over the years, I learned to think of the battle facilities in mainline games as just a way to measure the strength of the team that you built. Some Pokémon are just inherently bad compared to others but *IMO* being able to design and build a subpar team, make it work and go as far as it can go in the frontier feels more satisfying than doing a 100 win streak with a team that you just picked up on the internet. No one's going to argue for Butterfree being better than Raikou, but it's feels daggam good to reach a 70+ win streak in Battle Tower with a Butterfree lead.
The water veil ability has a nice little niche use too. If you suspect your opponent is gonna use will-o-wisp you can switch into Wailord. Save someone getting burned.
Dude your videos are so awesome and nostalgic. This is probably how people did it back in the day. But probably just reset for good Natures vs Breed IVs. Gen 4 is when people went insane Breeding competitive Mons but seeing this done on GBA is awesome :D Anyways, I caught 60 Ditto's or so in that cave in Emerald and used the Judge in the Battle Frontier also in Emerald to check the IVs. I got every Nature and almost one Ditto with each Perfect IV of 31, each for one stat per Ditto. I bred a 3IV Charmander and Bred another 1IV one, both Jolly Nature and with Egg Moves Aerial Ace, Belly Drum, Rock Slide, and Overheat. Hoping to get another Full Odds Shiny Hatch in Emerald at one point. If I had to choose any IV of the 3, preferably Speed and Jolly, Naive, or Hasty are amazing Natures but I'll take Timid as well. Super awesome stuff good luck in the Battle Tower :) Also if you want to try Suicune at some point: In Colosseum it's a Catch Rate of 15 instead of 3, so Net Ball is 33% red HP and Sleeping, I recommend a Lv 100 Jumpluff with Sleep Powder and X Accuracy, and Lv 60 Hariyama with Seismic Toss. I know that's a lot of work but it should do the trick
wow congrat you go all of those dittos! That will be super helpful to use! I am playing through Colosseum now actually. I have had this on the back burner but I need the Dogos for the Pokedex in Fire Red
One of the best ones too, also it was my 26th birthday yesterday and i used an event cart i bought from a guy in Australia to get ho oh and lugia in my childhood FR 🤟🏻
using ruby/sapphire you can burn the roaming legendarys to catch a pokemon in the battle tower I recommend using it on a lati or gen 2 dog or gen 1 bird as past level 50 everything has perfect iv
I hope you try several movesets and teams with wailord. I feel like it has potential but no one ever uses it, so I really don't know just how far it can go.
I really like that you want to do the Battle Frontier with your favorite Mons but the harsh reality is, Wailord won't take you far either. The Battle Frontier is such a hard and unforgiving place, where luck is almost certainly against you. There is a reason why the main water types people use in the Frontier are Suicune, Starmie, Swampert or Milotic. Wailord has really bad defensive stats, his high HP stat won't carry you through the Frontier. I am sorry to tell you this but this is the hard truth. Creative teambuilding is great and I also didn't use the standard Swampert / Latios / Metagross team in the BF, but Wailord does not add any benefits to the team compared to e.g. Suicune or Milotic (the mono water types frequently used). I really don't want to spread negativity, please don't get me wrong. But the BF is just unforgiving when it comes to weaknesses in teams, especially when you want to get the Gold symbols. The Frontier even is really hard with ideal teams so mediocre Mons almost make it impossible.
No no i appreciate the honesty. Going into this I have a difficult time thinking Wailord will get us a Gold however it doesnt hurt to try. Might seem like a waste of time for others but I dont see it as a waste to me. Will be fun and challenging to use big whale. When I was considering Wailord over like Lapras, Wailord didnt have any significant benefits. Same idea goes for many of the other water pokes like you listed. Wanted to run Wailord for a bit and see how we do! But I wont beat myself up if we dont get far.
@@nostalgicnighthawk thanks for the great reply and I really like to hear your thoughts. I wish you good luck with Wailord anyway and keep up the good work when it comes to your videos, they are really well made and calming to watch.
lol I've told him the same things on 2 previous videos but he's adamant about his choices. He's just one of the guys who has to learn the hard way so we just have to let go and let him cook. I hope it works out too, but I've been theory crafting and testing strategies in the gen 3 Battle Frontier for so long that this just drives me up the wall lol.
I used milotic to counter water pokemon like lapras and walrein, it can toxic them and outheal with protect-leftovers and recover, I'd say it is the best mon to take to battle frontier, Lanturn and Mantine can also be solid defensive water pokemon, despite its type mantine can take a non stab electric attack depending of who used it, but its rough to use mantine without roost, they won't achieve as much as calm mind suicune, recover milotic or offensive starmie/swampert
Is the analogue pocket worth it? I have an SP and a DS Lite. I like the fact I can play ROMs and Cartridges on it. Do you recommend it or just stick with what I have?
Was it easy/quick to update the Analogue Pocket firmware?? I kinda wanna jam Emerald Seaglass physical copy when the Pocket arrives and don't feel like updating it right away..
Love this!! 🙏 your pokemon process and methodology narrowing your results into Wailord was awesome!! And your build is so exciting! Edit: and those IV's really turned out!! Awesome content and GoodLuck :)
I'm gonna be so real with you dude, it honestly seems like some advanced trolling after you talks so highly of a Chesto Rest Fissure strategy, in one of the most horrible RNG blenders in Pokemon history, but hey, to each their own. Then already having a Milotic in his Fire Red party... bro clearly has resources and knowledge but doesn't want to RNG the stuff that would be worthwhile... idk man lol. Like someone else in the comments here said, using mediocre Pokemon already makes the frontier significantly harder, so it would be incredibly beneficial to commit to some heavy IV breeding, maybe even for a few Hidden Power variants because the mediocre picks need all the support they can get. Average Pokemon are average, but average Pokemon with mostly mediocre IVs and odd natures.... Keep on keeping on, but expect it to take a long time.

There is thread on smogon about the Gen 3 Frontier with almost 2,000 comments and basically nobody there used Mons like Dusclops and Wailord in the Frontier. And there is a good reason for that, as they are simply not good enough. @gstiess1033 True, thats a given And obviously Battle Frontier is a different thing I wouldnt be so sure to call it the hardest tho? @@lordinfernape4753 I found Gen 4s Battle Frontier way easier than Gen 3s. First of all Emerald has 7 facilites you need to complete while Gen 4 only has 5. Furthermore, I think it's way easier to excel with one single team in Gen 4s BF. In Gen 4 I just used three Mons in the entire Frontier (Garchomp, Suicune, Zapdos) while in Gen 3 I had to built a different team for the Pike and swapped a Mon in the Battle Palace (for the rest I used Salamence, Metagross and Milotic). I also found the facilites itself way easier. I completed the Battle Hall and Battle Castle on my first attempt because they were that easy for me. Tower and Factory are obviously similar in both Generations (just that the Tower in Emerald requires 21 wins more while the Factory requires 7 wins less).
