I didn't care for the combat either, also the monsters were generic to me. Companies think hard game = fromsoftware game, but there is so much more to their games then that. They have talent in their company many cannot match. Their worlds make you want to explore it despite how brutal it is. This game is okay, but no where near a fromsoftware game.
Dude why are you trying to dodge so much. You have to perfect parry like Sekiro to break their posture or as the call it "groggy". The devs have even explicitly stated you should be very rarely dodging from side to side during boss fights. Did you even play the game at all? You should't be reviewing a game if you don't even understand the core mechanics.
Im just so exhausted with soulslike games but i was interested in this because there was so much hype around it for some reason. Prob not for me at thisvpoint but it looks interesting if i get the soulslike itch again.
souls-like or words attributing any likeness is the most abused words in gaming media. only likeness with bloodborne is Victorian/gothic world design yet all people call this bloodborne-like :D
Agreed. To feel like a souls game you need to combine the 3 pillars (precise challenging combat, labyrinthine dark atmospheric world that is mysterious and full of secrets, and vague and cryptic lore) which I've only fully experienced in Hellpoint (yes its unpolished and janky, but its the only game that truly has that synergy). These days its gotten so bad that simply having a system that is inspired by it is enough to label an entire game as a souls-like. Bloodborne is just so, so much more than Victorian architecture and clothing with curvy cuts and cuffs. Bloodbornes world was so specific with the Lovecraftian inspired lore and monsters and the labyrinthine world was connected to such a unique story, not to mention the trick weapons etc. The fact that having a parry or perfect guard in a game makes people call a game a sekiro-like is also meaningless to me, as if the clashing of swords and counterattacks weren't already inherent to the concept of sword fights in the first place...
This was my first ever souls like game that I have ever played, I thought I would give it a try to see if I like this type of game before buying Elden Ring , well I can say I absolutely hate this game with passion and if this is representative of a souls like game then it’s not my idea of fun. I kept getting killed by the first mini boss policeman at the beginning despite trying multiple times , dodging , parrying timing, only to die very quickly and get sent back to the beginning of the game to get that point and die again , I promptly uninstalled, and learned that these style games are not my idea of fun..

I won't put a dislike here as I have too much respect for Noisy Pixel. Nevertheless the name of the reviewer will stay in my mind and I will never watch a review he wrote again. Souls-like games require adaptation. Not understanding here that you should perfect guard all the time means that the reviewer shouldn't review souls-like games. Understanding that when you miss a perfect guard too early doesn't harm you as it's turned into a normal guard allowing you to recover the little health you lost, is just something I don't understand. It's so damn' obvious. It makes the game so forgiving and trivial compared to a Sekiro for instance. My son did the same mistake trying to dodge in a game that doesn't want you to dodge but he's 15 years old. He's far more skilled than me but doesn't have my experience and my analysis skills. When he saw me less skilled than me killing end-game bosses in 2 tries by knowing when I should perfect and when I should dodge or run, I didn't even have to explain him and the game became easy for him as well. It seems one reviewer here really sucks at least for reviewing games that need you to test, observe and adapt. A shame.
@@NoisyPixelNews I feel bad at writing that but damn' there are so many Souls veterans that didn't like Lies of P for the wrong reasons that it will have an impact on the success of the studio's 1st action/RPG (not only 1st Souls-like) that it terribly saddens me. I'm really sorry to have so bad words on this reviewer but I really think it's not its genre of games.
From the demo we figured out that the reason dodge is not great is because the player is supposed to perfect block, specially the bosses. You should play this game more like Sekiro than BB. Sticking to the Roll-through-attacks-with-I-frames strategy will lead to frustration like the reviewer pointed out. If you don't like to deflect/perfect block then this is not the game for you. I did hope that the devs had made an effort to better explain what is expected of the player since many do not know how they are expected to interact with the game. And also increase the deflect window by a few frames. Anyway thanks for the review.
Man, I would honestly consider taking this review down or altering it as it's very misleading on one major point you're marking it down on. The perfect blocks are the parry system in this, similar to Sekiro and you can perfect parry every single enemy in the game with every weapon as it's standard. The trick is to build up the posture quick through successive parries then guard break for damage. Of course the guaranteed parry and riposte is going to cost mana, because it's a skill with a massive timing window. It's not the bread and butter of the game though and parries are standard on every weapon, just not the critical riposte.
Thanks for the comment. We won’t be taking the review down or altering it though. The review is based on our experience with the game. Whether you feel we were playing it wrong or not, we got through the entire game, had a great (and frustrating) time, and gave a score based on that experience :)

"There's no typical parry mechanic" Tapping block at the right time gives you a perfect guard aka parry and when done to the enemy in repeated succession it can lead to them being open to a heavy blow that puts them into a groggy state that can then be follwed by a critical strike. If the main game is anything like the demo it will teach you this right at the beginning as it's one of the main mechanics in the game, how you missed this is beyond me.

I still don't understand why everyone insist on saying that it's like Bloodborn, when (aside from the graphics) it's clearly much closer to Sekiro. And, like Sekiro, it seems that a tone of people are trying to play it like you would a soul, which makes for a pretty miserable experience.
"The frustrating combat mechanics revolving around the doge"
Unless the final game is nothing like the demo, the doge is mostly here for repositioning while the focus is on breaking stances through parry/attack.

Sorry but you lost me at half of the video while talking about the guard.

I really do love lies of p but there is one issue i recently been having lag issues 😒 i hope they get patches to fix this problem 😔
Yeah I thought the balancing was way off in the demo. It seemed unusually hard not because you were playing bad but because it felt extremely unfair sometimes

The game is trash, no one cares about parry this or that. Check the sales chart come next month parade clown ass dude.
Im just so exhausted with soulslike games but i was interested in this because there was so much hype around it for some reason. Prob not for me at thisvpoint but it looks interesting if i get the soulslike itch again.
if you're so exhausted then don't get it, nobody forcing you with a gun behind your head to play souls games🤡🙄
😒👍 Looks very cool, plz add a Story Mode and a God Mode, and I will buy it
souls-like or words attributing any likeness is the most abused words in gaming media. only likeness with bloodborne is Victorian/gothic world design yet all people call this bloodborne-like :D
I mean we highlight several comparisons, but we don’t really like calling things souls like it’s just the norm now.
You never got gud...
Which is the lie? The 7.5 or the 8?
I love this
@@NoisyPixelNews 🤣🤣🤣 I thought this was a joke to parallel the games' choices. Like, if you go the "truth" route, it's an 8, the "lie" route is a 7.5 tho...
7.5 seems reasonable everybody else are giving it 8s and 9s which is hard to believe 😂
So in other words you trust one opinion more than others just because the opinion meets your already cemented perception. 🤡
@@FelixS.i will always side with a freethinker over the npc hivemind. usually relying on general opinion is a sign of low intelligence. not saying you are of low intelligence, but you should probly stop talking before it becomes even more obvious.
@@scragglie You didn’t understand my statement at all. Not saying you are of low intelligence, maybe it’s just an issue with reading comprehension :)
Come on now, maybe get someone who are good and understand this games to review souls like titles. This is easily at least 8.5/9
😢😢😢
This is why new IPs don’t stand a chance against established AAA because reviewers who don’t understand games insist on dragging them down (Immortals Aveum) was another title that got dragged down by reviewers
Saw in another review that most bosses have 2 life bars as well. Yikes!
It looks really damn good actually. I will buy it and play it once i'm done with BG3.
A shame.
We’ll definitely take this into consideration for future reviews within this genre and who reviews them.
The game is nothing like Bloodborne.
Ehhh. I was keen for this but it really does just look too much like a direct copy of Bloodborne...
Direct copy of trash Sekiro which makes it even worse 🤮
From the demo we figured out that the reason dodge is not great is because the player is supposed to perfect block, specially the bosses. You should play this game more like Sekiro than BB. Sticking to the Roll-through-attacks-with-I-frames strategy will lead to frustration like the reviewer pointed out. If you don't like to deflect/perfect block then this is not the game for you.
I did hope that the devs had made an effort to better explain what is expected of the player since many do not know how they are expected to interact with the game. And also increase the deflect window by a few frames.
Anyway thanks for the review.
Devs fixed nothing, game is still trash.
Noisy Pixel reviewer says it's hard. IGN reviewer says it's too easy. Wonder where the majority will agree with?
Nowhere because no one will play this.
@@NoisyPixelNews Your review is amateurish( in a bad way), misleading and has many FALSE STATEMENTS in it. I don't know how your reviewer was able to go the ENTIRE game without realising that there's a perfect block mechanic ( it's explained in a tutorial textbox btw). It discredits your channel and de outlet you strive to be! But WORSE is that it wrongly and unwarrantedly badly affects the communication and publicity around a passion INDIE game that the developers spent HOURS and HOURS making! much more time than you seem to have granted them when making this review!
@reubenboylan5831 Completely agree with you, this review should be taken down/ remade, I really think it would be in your guy's best interest too.
I didn't feel you were playing the game wrong at all. That said, the wording in the video completely misrepresents the parry mechanic initially to the point where if I hadn't already played it; I would have been very put off the game.
I'm simply saying your clarification of this particular section was muddy, the way you play the game has absolutely nothing to do with it, simply your breakdown of its functions wasn't clear.
I would assume this is something you would care about as I see other people echoing my sentiment in the comments over this lack of clarity.
Hope you have a nice day at any rate, and hope this helps the other folks in this section who are thinking of buying this game. :)

Yea regardless of this review I’m going to love the hell out of it It’s right up my alley I can’t wait The reviewer didn’t play it right
The review is misleading as you could be driving players away from an Indie game trying to make a name for itself, due to the fact you didn't know how to play the game properly and are giving objectively false information. You are not supposed to dodge, you have to parry. It's like trying to play DS3 without rolling.@@NoisyPixelNews

They did extend the I-frame. You can see in this video at 7:29 where the reviewer button mash the dodge.
He only didn't fully utilize it well and pretty much I can tell still using Darksouls's I-frame timing.
They did not.
Wait, is it a 7.5 or 8??
I love how every attempt to imitate the FromSoft formula just ends up bringing into vivid focus just how masterful their game design actually is. Lies of P does so much right, but just a few missteps largely spoil the combat system.

This is a typical From rip off trash game. They had no idea what they were doing. They had one thing in mind. Difficulty. They made an unbalanced, sluggish, slog of a game. Dodge is a joke, the parry is terrible, and the pathetic Sekiro rip off is hysterical. They even gave you a prosthetic arm.... The bosses are atrocious. As you get further, they get worse.
I mean in the demo I dumped point in what the handle scaled off of and all 3 bosses become like one taps at level 30 (motivity and technique)
Level 30 farming trash in a demo. Yeah all bosses are easy bro, 99 all stats.
Dodge is usually a bad idea in this game.. just think Sekiro.. it's usually better to block/perfect block. To say the combat falls apart just shows you didn't utilize the systems properly. I've watched about 6 or 7 different reviews. This is the first one I've come across who says the combat doesn't shine. I'm surprised he didn't bring up the whole "easy mode" discussion smh.

"There's no typical parry mechanic"
Tapping block at the right time gives you a perfect guard aka parry and when done to the enemy in repeated succession it can lead to them being open to a heavy blow that puts them into a groggy state that can then be follwed by a critical strike.
If the main game is anything like the demo it will teach you this right at the beginning as it's one of the main mechanics in the game, how you missed this is beyond me.
Originality is Dead, great name defending an unoriginal game like Lies of P.

Speaking fact is not defending a game, your reading comprehension leaves a lot to be desired.
Lords of the Fallen ain't original either, you need to stop letting your feelings rule you and grow up.
I hope this patched. I don't want them to get rid of the challenge, but tweak some of the combat mechanics. The demo just felt a little off. But you can tell there's a really great game at the core there.
I just don’t get making games this difficult and a fucking chore to play alienating half their potential audience.
Yeah, at least include some fucking difficulty or accessibility options. I loved so many aspects of the demo, and managed to beat it with grinding, but it was a frustrating experience and I have no interest in pulling out my hair 100x as much for the full game. There are sekiro-like parries(= perfect blocks), in this game, what you say isn't true!
