Despite this, I have never faced any issues identifying as Naga. If someone ever questions your identity, I suggest you remind them that it’s not their place to decide. Let them take the matter to the village council or the clan chief. If they accept you as Naga, who are these individuals to challenge it? Identity, especially in a society as complex as ours, is not solely determined by biology or patriarchal traditions but also by lived experiences and community acceptance.

I wish people would stop using the word 'title' for surnames! According to the Indian Constitution there's only two titles that a person can use along with their name academic title (Dr, Er, prof etc) and honorary titles (gallanty awards, national awards etc) so Jamir, Rongmei, Mero etc are surnames or clan names not titles

We Naga people needs to be educated when it comes to mix marriages, if the parents are from different races or tribe. It is known as mix marriage and the children inherit both the culture, which makes the children 50/50. In her case, she has south indian blood, Ao, and rongmei aswell, pretty multi ,I Cannot say the exact ratio but thats what she is. She is mix of different tribe and race. So she is also a naga, actually more of Naga blood in her, considering the grandma from dads side is also a naga.

There were time when I thought we Nagas have advance in our mentality, but that’s far from the truth, the amount of racist, ignorant people in the comment section is disheartening and scary at the same time.
To whom it may concern, It's important to understand that biologically, we inherit 50% of our DNA from each parent. So while she may be South Indian by blood, she is equally Naga. This idea that we're solely defined by our father's race is a misconception rooted in patrilineal thinking. We're a blend of both our parents' heritages, and it's narrow-minded to think otherwise. And for this reason, there is no restriction-she can use whichever surname she chooses.
It's disheartening to see people who cry for inclusivity and against discrimination when someone call them with names and that they don’t look Indian yet turn around and make such unreasonable and divisive comments.
As Nagas, we should take pride in our culture, but let's not forget that there's always room to learn and grow from others.

We Naga people needs to be educated when it comes to mix marriages, if the parents are from different races or tribe. It is known as mix marriage and the children inherit both the culture, which makes the children 50/50. In her case, she has south indian blood, Ao, and rongmei aswell, pretty multi ,I Cannot say the exact ratio but thats what she is. She is mix of different tribe and race. So she is also a naga, actually more of Naga blood in her, considering the grandma from dads side is also a naga.
