I was fortunate enough to see this band at the Bottleneck in Lawrence, Kansas in 1988. They were unlike anyone else on the scene, and seemed crazy as loons, but crazy in a smart and inspired, literate and poetical way. To me they were a refreshing antidote to the willful vulgarianism of the punk and hardcore types who dominated alt-rock in Lawrence at the time.
Your comment beautifully encapsulated these star-cursed artists, in an inspired, literate and poetical way. Keep writing, friend; keep tossing your babies to the flames.
I just listened to the heaven listened to it in a while I've always been in love with a song and playing guitar with it right now f****** ripping on it it's awesome till the day I die this was one of my favorite songs is everybody doing associated with the band
I stumbled in on them one night at the Bottleneck. I think it was 1987. They blew me the away~Walked in late. Not a lot of people there but everyone was drenched in sweat. Probably the greatest night of my life. Trip Shakespeare was the band.
I lived in Mpls at the time when they were hot on the scene. They were a great band to see live and I saw them multiple times. I remember seeing them play at Coffman Union on the U of M campus. I walked across the "red metal archways" of the Washington Bridge to get there. My friends and I called John Munson, "Spider Fingers" because of the way his long fingers moved around the bass fretboard. Great memories.
I remember this time. The whole neo -psychedelic jangle pop thing (this, material issue, etc) that was supposed to be the next big thing until grunge happened. Good times.
I suffered thru 3 awful bands on Halloween night to see Trip Shakespeare and it was worth every bit of suffering. They made the 3 previous bands look silly.
"Experiencing Trip's music has provided many of my greatest joys in life and love. It was an honor to serve as 2nd Cameraman at First Avenue for the "Pearle" music video, under the visionary Direction of Kevin Kerslake, the seminal MTV & commercial auteur en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Kerslake - Note that when MTV frequently featured "Pearle" on The Week In Rock, the Kurt Loder segment used a bit of Trip's promo clip: th-cam.com/video/IK0NJJ8sgMg/w-d-xo.html" ~ Michael Wisnieux, Photographer-Filmmaker.
The angel wings also show up in the Bachelorette video. Reuse and repurpose. Wish I had seen them in person. As a late in life drummer, I find myself influenced by Elaine.
Where did you get this? I've been searching for TS vids for years, and tonight, I just took a chance and found a treasure trove of vids! I'm still searching for "Look at the Moon". This was such a great band!!
I agree about Bachelorette. I just made a Trip Shakespeare mix for a coworker and that song did not make the cut for 80 minutes. This song did, however. I guess at least the Bachelorette video is so bad that its actually enjoyable in a "it was supposed to be that bad, right?" way.
Love Bachelorette! Anything from Lulu is good stuff. Does anybody have video of Matt doing one of those silly poems during a show? Used to crack me up, that kid...
You have to put Bachelorette up if you have it. Any of it. So much has been lost. TS was one of the best bands ever. Who else sounds like them? No one.
It was/is. I was at the show. Or at least I was at a 1st Ave show where they were filming the Pearle music video. They played it at least twice with cameras rolling.
One of the best live bands I have ever heard.
I had my brother's lD 😂 saw these guys a lot at first avenue in Minneapolis MN 🎉🎉🎉

I loved this band in highschool back in the 1990's Hopkins highschool in Minnetonka MN
Thank you for posting this, I am a huge fan of the band. They were so unlike anything else out there, then or now.
If anyone has more trip Shakespeare please post them please 🎉❤❤
Saw these guys at Cubby Bear Chicago and couldn't get them out of my head for a year. You can see why.
Ranch Bowl, Omaha. I saw them 3 times there.

James Patrick DuPaul got me into Trip Shakespeare, and I am forever grateful to him for it!
Everybody was in love with the stand up drummer.

I loved them at Kirbys bar in Moorhead MN!

Trip Shakespeare rattled the rafters at Stebs Amusements.
Bachelorette is a great song. A classic TS hommage to woman.
