I took off my Tesla Model 3 screen again...and now it pivots! Huge upgrade!

    It LOOKS like that bracket is set up to be able to swap for RHD cars (the second hole?)
    Can you (or Matt) confirm please?
    Also, from memory, original version dropped the screen a bit lower than standard I think?
    Does this one too?

      Yes, it is right or left hand drive. Yes it lowers the screen. It has to because of mechanical interference issues. It is literally not possible to remount the screen to swivel without dropping the screen a bit.

      You’ve solved the only (but significant 🤪) issue I had with v1, by making this work for rhd, so this is going on my “need to save up for this” list now 👍😀

      @@CfTesla Yes, straight L/R. A little hollowed indent and a ball-bearing between the two pieces might work. Just enough to provide a feel for the position and a little more resistance.

      @@FutureSystem738 just rig up some stiffer rubber bands on the ends that don't pull more than the king pin friction holds it in place. It'll have the resistance pulling it back to center

    Thanks Coady. This seems so much better than the previous one. I might think about getting one if it ever came to the UK and is OK for RHD cars.
    One small tip - if you are concerned about things dropping into the back of the screen whilst it's laid down flat on the console, just cover it with a piece of masking tape or such like and take it off once you are ready to plug the cable back in.

    I think it's a great product and I'd like one but I felt the first version was too expensive, and this one is even way more expensive. But I get it, Matt did a lot of work on this product and it's low production. However, I can't justify the cost.

    What I don't know if I like is it's tilted backwards further and that doesn't seem to be adjustable?
    It adjusts left and right but it should also adjust up and down a little bit to get the tilt at the right angle ? Wonder if a future version will do that like every monitor arm can

    That 3/16" Allen key should almost certainly be a metric 5mm, I can't believe Tesla would have an SAE fastener on their car.

      Tesla Model 3 was built in USA so it’s not unusual for them to use English measured hardware.

    I’ll bet Matt has a patent for this and Tesla buys it from him for $16.7 million next year and they will be stock in model three and y in 2023 on

      I would love that but I don't think that Tesla has to buy a patent from him since it basically is just a bolt and some metal. If Tesla made it they would have some nice refinements and slick design.

      He can only patent the design. Tesla could easily achieve the same functionality with a completely different design. Once they do that his patent (and his product) are completely worthless.

    Cool and I have the V1 of this but it seems to point the screen too high. I am 6' so def not short but even I wish it were not so high, my shorty wife esp doesn't lioke this. Is this new version better in this regard?

      I don't notice anything different as far as location. there might be but not enough to stand out. I am 6'1" and my wife is 5"4' and we both really like it.

      @@CfTesla Try to compare the up/down tilt to an OEM position back to back and then see what you think. It still fits a workable range but even at your 6'1", it is likely pointing higher than straight at you and I wonder why....

      @@TechForumTesla so yes then. Cool that’s all I was curious about. I’ve seen these a few times and I think it’s a valid point to say in the video. You can’t train someone to void a warranty. People trust you to teach them. At least disclaimer it.

      @@DoingitDave here is the deal;
      If you damage the screen installing the mount, it will be denied for warrantee. However, two different Tesla stores saw my mount while working on my car and said it was very cool and not to worry about any warrantee issues.
      But, who knows what your experience would be.

      Good question. So far I have never heard of anyone having an issue with that but that doesnt really mean anything. You could always swap it back in 10 min if you had an issue with the screen and had to take it in.

    seems very expensive for an aluminum bracket made in a couple of mins on a CNC machine, $50 would be more reasonable

      You’re paying for the incredible amount of time that it took to design this product. Everyone just wants to buy cheap Chinese knockoffs.

      This wasn't a few minutes on the CNC machine. This required an $80,000 CNC milling machine and a little over an hour of time for the aluminum work per kit. After that, I have about a 1/2 hour of finishing and packing time per kit. Beyond that, I had to purchase all of the hardware and the fabric sleeve costs $35 to make. I always find it interesting when somebody who has no idea about manufacture makes a comment like this.

      That's what you may think but remember you are trying to sell this to a person just like me, that price is unrealistic

      @@glj100 What do you mean that's what I think? It's not something I think, it's something I know for fact! I'm the one that has to pay for all of the manufacturing. So, I have no idea what you mean by thats what you think.
      I've been designing and manufacturing products for over 15 years. Some things are just expensive to make. Also, these are not being made by the tens of thousands. They're generally made a couple dozen at a time.
      You know, this is a $1200 screen that you are remounting. Do you really want that $1200 screen mounted to some cheap crappy piece of die cast material?
      If you don't want it, then don't buy it. It's a simple as that.

      I think it is actually a little but angled more but I don't really remember how the other one felt or looked anymore. I will look at my dad's and compare then report back.
