She was very clear about one point: As bad as the Germans were, the Russians were worse---and this is even after having witnessed a teen friend being shot and killed by an SS soldier. Top U.S. military commanders knowing how sex starved, perverted their men are, told the troops just before D-Day, French women, and others would be so happy they liberated them from the Germans, sex would be the reward. So, over 40,000 women were raped during the American death and destruction rampage across Europe. It is said, one million were raped during the Vietnam War. What the world saw in Irag, Afghanistan was just a small taste of what Americans are really like. There was so much rape committed in Japan by US Troops, that the United States ran out of penicillin, that President Truman tried to put a stop to it. German soldiers burned the entire village where my ancestors lived in Ukraine . The sister of my grandfather vividly remembered German soldiers throwing a Molotov cocktail into a house where she lived as a little girl.
The father of my grandfather was a Ukrainian, and he also was a soldier that joined the Red Army, and he died defending Kiev. My grandfather was adopted by a Russian man, who was a firefighter, and was extinguishing fires in Kiev.
So, your attempt to portray all the Russian soldiers as monsters is futile. You are just feeding a hateful narrative that will bring only more suffering in the future, and yet you are happy to do it. The only thing I hope is that you will not spread hatred anymore.

It’s unlikely we’ll ever see justice for those crimes because of A: how long it’s been since the incident occurred and B: it was widely seen as acceptable behavior because of what the Germans did to the Polish. The Germans, throughout the war, were expanding their territory east into Poland and the polish that lived there were raped and killed and forced from their homes. Russian forces sweeping across Poland were becoming all too familiar with German death/work camps. Keeping those atrocities in mind just fueled the allied forces to commit atrocities of their own.

The rape of Nanking by Japanese soldiers is self explanatory and well documented, with Japanese newspapers gleefully printing about it.

I remember at the beginning of the 2000s, I watched the “military affairs” program. There, one Red Army veteran said that when they liberated the territory of the USSR, they walked along the streets of one city. And one little boy came up to them, he was wearing a German officer's cap. He said that he was German, then they got angry and shot him. After what the Germans did on the territory of the USSR. Their hatred of the Germans was very strong. They were imbued with anger and cruelty. So their behavior in Germany does not surprise me at all. Although this is of course a crime!

@AB-uw3os : I, too, find it upsetting when bedrock principles become elastic if they suit someone's short-term goals. I find realpolitik based on such moral flexibility disgusting, even though it was so common in the West during and after WW2. For example, before helping Russia fight Germany during WW2, how could we forget that WW2 was started as a premeditated act with Russia joining Nazi Germany in attacking and then dividing Poland (Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact)? The West helping Russia fight Germany is an example of practiced realpolitik. This is one time when I probably would have done the same if in the position of power, simply because the threat and the costs were so great. The problem with this approach is that my assessment of the cost being high enough to justify an unprincipled policy may differ greatly from whoever makes decisions at any given time. This is the problem with democracy and democratic politicians for whom popular opinions, which often do not tolerate any cost, are the justification for realpolitik. This is what all authoritarians, including Putin, count on.
Now, on the difference between Ukrainian and Russian cultures. You may or may not know, but your view that there is no difference between them is, in fact, Russian propaganda. Just look at Putin's drivel that ideologically underpins Russia's unprovoked war against Ukraine: en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/66181.
Reality cannot be further from the truth. Let's start with the language (you misspelled the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv). Putin and the Russian world see the Ukrainian language as the dialect of Russian but Serbian and Bolgarian as separate languages. The reality is that Ukrainainn is further away from Russian than either of those languages and is the closest to Belarusian and Polish (www.openculture.com/2017/08/a-colorful-map-visualizes-the-lexical-distances-between-europes-languages.html). Judge for yourself from this example: preply.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Ukrainian-language-difference-7-copy.jpg. To close this topic, Ukrainian has more words in its dictionary (at least 260K) than Russian has (~200K). Most scholars agree that the older the language, the more words it has.
Now consider the culture. Russian culture is, in fact, Asian and is directly traced to the Golden Horde and further to the Mongol Empire. For example, revered Russian historical figure and Orthodox Saint Alexander Nevsky is, in fact, a Goden Horde vassal fighting European powers (photos.com/featured/prince-alexander-nevsky-begging-batu-heritage-images.html?product=canvas-print). For centuries and now Russian culture is based on the fear of punishment, not right and wrong. This cultural trait is directly traceable to Genghis Khan's view of extreme terror that would deter anyone from harming a beautiful woman traveling across his empire. Pragmatically, Russians believe that a strong state is essential to rule Russia, the last remaining land empire.
Let's look at a more recent past. When a Ukrainian serf, Taras Shevchenko, essential to understanding modern Ukranais ethnos, was writing, "Keep fighting - you are sure to win! God helps you in your fight! For fame and freedom march with you, And right is on your side!," the great Russian novelist Ivan Turgenev was admitting that "Russian people are lazy and slow, and not accustomed to thinking independently, nor acting consistently."
Today, look at the national anthems of the two countries. Ukrainians sing, hand on the heart, that "Soul and body shall we lay down for our freedom." Russians glorify "Russia is our sacred state" and "We are given strength by our fidelity to the Fatherland."
Ukrainians have had two revolutions in the last 20 years, fighting for their freedom and the right to choose their future (if you have not yet seen Winter on Fire, you ought to if you want to understand the difference between the two cultures, not nationalities: th-cam.com/video/yzNxLzFfR5w/w-d-xo.html). At the same time, Russians are obediently reelecting Putin because he restored Russia's "greatness," which makes them feel good.
The world has, indeed, changed a lot since 1945. But not the Russian world: war.ukraine.ua/russia-war-crimes/, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_crimes_in_the_Russian_invasion_of_Ukraine. I can give you individual examples if you can stomach them. For example, the execution of a prisoner of war who was forced to dig his own grave and executed as we were saying Slava Ukraini (Glory to Ukraine): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Execution_of_Oleksandr_Matsievskyi, war.obozrevatel.com/zastavili-kopat-sebe-mogilu-v-seti-obratili-vnimanie-na-zhutkie-detali-s-rasstrelom-okkupantami-ukrainskogo-voina.htm. Or castration and murder of another Ukrainian POW (caution, this is genuinely horrific Russian barbarism): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torture_and_castration_of_a_Ukrainian_POW_in_Pryvillia.
The Russian world never changes and will only end if we help the Ukranians defeat this truly evil empire. If not, we will be fighting it ourselves in the not-too-distant future.

There are a lot of people hating on Russian people in the comments, calling all Russians animals. Somehow the Russians are subhuman in the minds of the hateful rhetorists like some people in the comments.
Well, let me tell you this. The Nazi soldiers burned the entire village of my Ukrainian ancestors in the early stages of WW2. The sister of my grandfather vividly remembered invading soldiers throwing a Molotov cocktail into a house where she lived as a little girl.
The father of my grandfather (a Ukrainian serving in the Soviet Army) died defending Kiev. My grandfather, was adopted by a Russian man, who was a firefighter, and was extinguishing fires in Kiev and Eastern Ukraine. My grandfather was rejoiced to see how kind and selfless his Russian adoptive father was. So, was my grandfather's adoptive father also just a savage animal by your logic just because he was Russian???
So, for anyone whose mind is boiling from bigotry. If you were able to read at least to this point, you at least value intellectual honesty, so please remember. By painting all the people of one nationality as the same, you are just feeding a hateful narrative that will bring only more suffering in the future.
The only thing I hope is that you will not spread hatred anymore, be it hatred against Jews, Germans, Russians, Ukrainians, Arabs, French, American, any other nationality. There are tons of bad people and there are tons of great people born in every place on this Earth, period.

Harder than it sounds. In 1612, an invading Polish army was massacred. In 1709, Charles the 7th of Sweden led an army into Russia, and was beaten and booted out. Even the mighty Napoleon failed miserably in Russia. As did Hitler and his powerful German army. Not to mention during Russia's civil war, 1918 - 1920, French, British, and even American soldiers intervened to help the 'White Russian' resistance fight the Red Army under Lenin's Bolsheviks. But it failed, there were too many Red soldiers, and the Soviet Union was created. The Soviet Union did eventually fall apart, though mostly from within. It may be the same with Russia today. A takeover of Russia would most likely require a gigantic invasion with many nations participating, but the trouble with that is other countries would likely also move to support Russia, provoking a massive, possible world war. And nuclear weapons might be used by somebody if it escalated enough. More should be done to get Russia out of Ukraine, I believe that, but Russia itself needs to deal with itself, and just maybe, will fall, like the Soviet system before it, but this time turn into something better, less aggressive, and more productive and peaceful. I'm sure a lot of ordinary Russian citizens would agree.
