Zach Lee People tend to lay claim to things they took no part in developing or achievements of others. It’s like when Jamar keeps saying white people are guests in the house of HipHop. A statement I’m fine with. But the house was long build by the time he arrived but he credits the creation of HipHop to all people of colour when in fact is was the creation of but a few. I came up in the b-boy scene and I’ve never heard anyone refer to someone as a culture vulture. I’ve also never witnessed so many people claiming ownership of something that they did not invent. I would agree that like with everything in this world it has been milked and monetised. But I don’t see the need for all the in fighting going on in especially in the rap scene. If anything older heads need to come together and set out clear guidelines on how to further develop HipHop as a hole given the current state of the culture. I think b-boys have somewhat kept things preserved given that they don’t have a products you can sell like albums. I’d say the ability of HipHop to cross the racial divide and transcend it are it’s greatest accomplishment. I’m not American btw so my views might differ from those who have other experiences.
