I've been a fan of the great instrumentalist, Smiley Bates for some time and enjoy his guitar pickin ,fiddling and singin. Great house jams they had in those days. I had a hard drinkin uncle who worked the woods in NW Ontario at times, he always played a Martin D28 and sang some too !. Maybe he and Smiley knew each other or played with him...........lol. Dedepick from the Gaspe,Qc plays a lot like Smiley's style.
Smiley was master when it came to singing or making music . He has always been my favorite and I listen to him all the time . Thanks you so much for these precious home video's ,they just make my day to watch them, they bring a tear to my eyes ,I know Smiley's still playing, for the master up there.Thanks again your friend in Whitby Ont. Just down the street from where Smiley once lived
my grandfather Stan little was good friends with him and his buddys from the grupe bluegrass in nova scotia, they came down to riverland campground in enfeild nova scotia to our trailer to play after their show and i got to go fishing with him in the river. i was 3 or 4 years old

yes Guy i have seen them all. my cousin met him right at his place. he played a song for his mother my aunt. i never had the pleasure of meeting him, but my aunt and uncle said he was a very nice man. too bad nobody else thought about video taping him, but you did and those 5 videos are great. thank you for sharing them with his fans.
