  • My 41th MV. thank for watching.
During the final battle of Berlin in 1945 the general of the 12th army, Walther Wenck realized that the end of the war was coming, and instead of trying to defeat the advancing Soviet forces as his orders were, he used his army to create an escape corridor out of Berlin. For such an act he would surely have been sentenced to death, but instead he ended up being responsible for up to 250,000 people safely escaping the burning city of Berlin. For some this was a battle, for him this was a rescue operation..
Next MV will not be sabaton song.
    = CAUTION =
I won't tolerate any racist, discriminatory or in any other form inappropriate comments! This song neither glorifies war, nor National Socialism, but should be considered as a historical work.
I made this video for historical purpose, not to support any kind of ideology or anything similar
I used a translation of Piscator for German subtitles. If he ask to delete, I will change the German subtitles.

    Lyrics
    See the Reich in flames
Try to save Berlin in vain
It’s a road through death and pain
On the other shore, there’s the end of the war
    Who could ever have believed,
    Seems like nothing’s been achieved
Just to walk a day, go all the way, the fronts are closing in
As the end is drawing near, the 12th army interfere
Open up a route, get people out, it’s forces spread out thin
It’s the end of the war
    Hold the corridor!
    Reach for Elbe’s shore
It’s the end, the war has been lost
Keeping them safe ’til the river’s been crossed
    Nicht ein schlacht, ein rettungsaktion
Holding their ground ’til the final platoon
“Hurry up, we’re waiting for you”
Men of the 9th, and civilians too
    Dispossessed, surrendering to the west
Who’ll survive and who will die?
    Up to kriegsglück to decide
Those who made it cross, without a loss, have reason to reflect
It is not about Berlin, it is not about the Reich,
It’s about the men, who fought for them, what peace can they expect?
It’s the end of the war
    Hold the corridor!
    Reach for Elbe’s shore
It’s the end, the war has been lost
Keeping them safe ’til the river’s been crossed
    Nicht ein schlacht, ein rettungsaktion
Holding their ground ’til the final platoon
“Hurry up, we’re waiting for you”
Men of the 9th, and civilians too
    Dispossessed, surrendering to the west
See the city burn on the other side
Going down in flames as two worlds collide
Who can now look back with a sense of pride?
On the other shore, there’s the end of the war
See the city burn on the other side
Going down in flames as two worlds collide
Who can now look back with a sense of pride?

On 22 April 1945, as Steiner's attempt to relieve Berlin from the approaching Soviets failed, the German 12th Army under Walther Wenck became Hitler's last hope of saving Berlin, as such Wenck was ordered to cease fighting the Americans in the West and turn to fight the Soviets in the East.
The plan was for the 12th to link up with the encircled 9th Army in the Halbe Pocket and then together head for Berlin. The pocket was also where thousands of refugees were located.
Wenck recognised that such an attack was pointless an impossible with what he had. He linked up with the 9th as planned but instead of heading East for Berlin, he headed West towards the American lines, ignoring Hitler's direct orders, bringing with him wounded and civilians. Wenck told his men "Comrades, you've got to go in once more. It's not about Berlin anymore, it's not about the Reich anymore.", it was no longer a battle, it was a rescue operation. They managed to make a corridor which allowed them to reach the Elbe river, where with help from American General William Stimson tens of thousands (some say hundreds of thousands) of German civilians were able to make for the safety of the American Occupation Zone. Wenck would be one of the last to cross the river.
Thanks for making this mv, Hearts of Iron is one of my favourite songs.

As someone who likes Sabaton and especially these videos, this is the first song that touched my dad as soon as he heard it. Being fresh out of highschool he was sent on the front just to end up defending his city while my family along with thousands of others were being evacuated. He lost a lot of his army friends in that last stand but at the end they all fought for the same cause and made sure all people escaped the city until all hell broke loose. Visiting that same city, now town, with all those destroyed buildings left untouched, just fenced from the other side, brings sadness to my heart.

Wenck really did allow for a German version of Dunkirk. 250,000 people just think about that number. I know it’s nothing in the greater number of lives lost but still in moments of horror it’s important to recognise when the light shines through.

The majority of Russian soldiers, unlike the Nazis, did not kill civilians, but they could not help in any way. They did not spare only German soldiers and took revenge on them for their murder of tens of millions of civilians. So the 12th Army, instead of dying for Hitler, decided to save their miserable, vile lives and the lives of their civilians and help them cross over the river to the well-equipped Americans. And many Nazi killers who destroyed tens and even hundreds of thousands of lives were released by the allies in 5-20 years. A very fair punishment, I think

@@ronaldpagar6513oh it does. Somehow it can get past the checks that TH-cam does and only seems to get deleted if enough people report it......... but they will accept blatantly false DMCA claims without a second though. I have had videos struck with false DMCA claims by companies claiming to own the 'music' used in them....... the video was raw footage of a steam train passing, no music in it at all.

To be honest, Nazi Germany committed 30 million rapes to the Soviet Union, and the Soviet Union committed only 3 million, a tenth of that, so the Soviet Union let it slide a lot I think so
