    Starcraft 2 was AFAIK one of the first highly competitive games with easily findable replays. Players started making accounts named like llllllIIIIIIIIllllll and even still nothing really got hidden in any meaningful way (in fact very early on, someone did a certain build order a bunch of times to trick their upcoming opponent into expecting the wrong thing)
    I realize the games are wildly different, rts has hidden info during the match so hiding what your intentions are is plausible. I'm not even sure what could come up in a fighting game that's so strong its worth saving, doesn't get seen or figured out by anyone else, and can swing games in your favor without adaptation from the opponent being intuitive. I wonder.
    Edit - I know of... Valle cc ? In sf alpha... 2? But that doesn't have much counterplay and his opponent was able to steal it on the spot. Very unique scenario
    Edit 2 - let me also clarify I'm not stubborn on this, if anyone thinks it could be used I'd love to learn how. I have never been even close to that position and am always happy to learn more about competitive perspective.

    • @sylascole5254
      @sylascole5254 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm inclined to an agree for fighting game points for sure, but there's a few small outliers here and there. For technical characters like Zato you can usually tell who someone is by their pressure and routing selections (PepperySplash still likes to use a lot of 5k jump cancel frog to keep things burst safe, Infiltration will do clap frog after sword super wall break and never goes for meaty negative edge pierce, MarlinPie had a stint where he was really into the parallel Eddie does drill Zato does float/empty land 2k mix midscreen to push for corner carry while running mix), but I think actual the value is player habits and tendencies.
      For a while, Hotashi and Umisho were both notable hero bursters (at least during their TNS runs, likely because of the one chance ability of HC/Nago during the last few months), or Tempest had a habit of closing out games with 5d when he didn't have meter available but raw tap dust would kill (pretty sure he did this for at least two of his sets during Frosty Faustings), Marvelo likes to do the 'fake' FD brake cross up post super wall break with Chipp on rounds that aren't the first (hard to react to, but can be air thrown if you've scouted for it/are looking for it), that sort of thing. I'm sure a player more invested in studying habits would be able to be able to find a myriad of other examples, but the benefit to being able to hide your replay is that it just adds an extra layer of protection for your preferred/difficult to adjust habit you've accidentally built up over time playing. Having a leg up on your opponent's preferred habits going into a set really lets you avoid the 'one off' selections that work predominantly because of their surprise factor, even if they aren't inherently fake or gimmicky.

    3:00 I'd say Sol has pretty much every tool necessary to beat zato. Really good buttons for escaping Eddie, normal movement, really freaking solid air movement, and really good damage and anti-anti aircapability. Makes for bad stuff for Zato. Theoretically it should be one of Zato's worst matchup as I think Sol's strengths really play against Zato's weaknesses.
