I watched Martin playing football in the school Quad whilst eating my lunch and he was a cut above in footballing talent. His younger brother was in my class. A true gentleman.
Martin, football savvy. Very eloquent, he’s always been. His attention to details and his post match interviews were just great. Highly respectable. Disciplined and well mannered. He’s still got a lot to offer to world football and can easily outdo many current managers. Thanks James. Great interview.
What a thoroughly interesting and wholesome trip down memory lane. Well done to both of you, great structure to the questions and eloquent recollections in responses. Wonderful... .
Martin is always wonderful to listen to. He’s also looking great and as others have said, is as sharp as ever. He is one of Forest’s greatest players. I think he was with some justification annoyed with how he was treated as Forest manager, but I hope he knows that true NFFC supporters hold him in high regard for all that he did for the club.
I remember Martin when he played for Nottingham Forest which now causes me to ask…. Am I really that old ?! 😂 Great player. Great manager who always achieved more from his teams than many “knowledgeable” football people thought they could give.
Martin O'Neils body language is very interesting when asked about boarding school.... I hope he was not exposed to the horrors that thousands of wee boys had to endure 💙🙏.
Great stuff! I always had a soft spot for Forrest ,cloudburst and o Neil. I think it started as a united fan in 70s and I doubt there’s many of us around that time weren’t Forrest fans. Ur enemies enemy and all that !
The rule about not being allowed to play or attend what was known as "garrison sports" ( eg football, rugby cricket etc) was a rule of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) which is the governing body of the native Irish sports of hurling and gaelic football. The ban also stretched to attending functions organised by the governing bodies of these garrison sports. It was in existence from the GAA's inception in 1884. It was eventually repealed in 1970 as it was being largely flouted at that stage. Liam Brady was actually expelled from his Christian Brothers secondary school for playing a schoolboy international football match.
Smashing interview thanks! Roisin was at De La Salle training college in Manchester. Typical brother....😅 Unless it was a different sister?!!!! Great whatever.....
Always great to listen to Martin BUT...we (Grantham) were THREE leagues below the football league not seven!...and Gary Crosby did not win six games all on his own by any stretch. Other players Martin brought in for short cameos were Terry Curran and Alan Kennedy...can't have been too many Southern League teams to take the field with two players who had scored winning goals in European Cup Finals!
Love Martin O"Neil. He changed the fortunes of Celtic. That aside, most intelligent and funny man in football. Could listen to him all day.
People watching this may not be aware immediately - age 72. Mind still as sharp as it was 25 years ago. Hope he is still going strong in another 25
My childhood was shaped around the Martin O'Neil celtic team that got to the Uefa cup final in 2003. Great days!

I could listen to Martin for days. Intelligent, insightful and sharp.

Thanks James. Great interview.
Martin's autobiography is superb. The guy's a genius. A legend for Northern Ireland as a player and Ireland as a manager.
Martin was my hero at Forest, I even learnt to copy his autograph... never used in anger!
That’s a gem of an interview. Congratulations to you both

Could listen to this man all day long
What a gentleman. Could listen to this man tell stories for hours
A pleasure of an interview. Simple prompts from James. Martin expresses a love of football and his experiences.
If there's a better man to listen to about football I've yet to hear him...terrific
Loved that you two thank you both
Very interesting, a great guest. Enjoyed that, thank you!
Could not admire Martin 'the messiah' any more. Enjoyed this so much because he clearly was.

Great respect for Mr O’Neill. I would have loved him to come manage Leeds United
What a great interview from both parties 👏👏
A legend, as simple as that.
Great craic from two Legends from a Sunderland/Celtic fan.

Hail hail MON is in the house 🍀
Martin O'Neill is a great guy. Always interesting to hear him chatting
O'Neill and O'Brien... along with O'Connor these were the surnames of most of the High Kings of Ireland before the Normans arrived in 1169.
As an O'Rourke, that particular year was pivotal.
@@derekruairc334 As an Ó Múrchú I agree with you 👍
John Robertson was magic 😊😊
No one like him as a winger these days. A lost art.
Excellent viewing.
A legend
Best guest ever Martin a great listen
Smashing interview thanks! Roisin was at De La Salle training college in Manchester. Typical brother....😅 Unless it was a different sister?!!!! Great whatever.....
Are there more interviews like this?
Really enjoyed that. Great stuff
Gentleman
Martin wasn’t given a proper chance as Forest manager but should have come over earlier when he had the chance.
What was the Wolves game that O’Brien mentioned that O’Neill never seemed to ackowledge?
Great episode

Get and interview with Dr Gabor Mate
What a true GENTLEMAN!!!!
You can’t help but LOVE the fellow !!!
Enjoyed that well done guys 👏👏👏💯
Martin reminds me of Artie Ziff from the Simpsons
Two men who don't lack confidence in their ability.
I love Martin recalling Clough telling him “You’re an arrogant young man with little to be arrogant about” 😂
Ahhhh Jaaays now Martin 1798, Vinegar Hill Fr Murphy
1798 rebellion Martin
Yep..😂
a brilliant man, a loss to football.
Wow. Didn’t see this one coming 👌
❤
Fabio and Patrick certainly know who he is😂
I played for Rosario & met Martin at the youth club once. Up the roses Martin 🌹
You can see the pundit work dried up for Martin. Soo long winded!
Cool!
PAUL COLLIER get him on the show …..is an economist with common sense which is unusual. He hates the treasury about as much as I do.
Wikipedia is James O'Brien's friend.
Ha!
Hope you make it as an interviewer because your phone in has become boring and very toxic
Your normal show is bad, but this is even worse😂
Shhhhh pipe down billy 🤡 HFH 🍀
@@celticsole7542 Not interested.

Great guest and a personal hero of mine! 💙🏆🦊
Dont want to talk to someone who disagrees with you? What a suprise. Speak with matt le tissier. I dare you. Or jordan peterson. Not just shills.
Get off the "right wing is my personality" lifestyle
Basically, you want all the gammons to get attention.
Peterson too busy talking to Tommy Robinson .
Le Tissier 😂
