Hi. Yes the trackpad has full gesture support for Win8. If you swipe from the right the windows menu bar appears, and if you swipe from the left it switches programs that you have open. The keyboard is really nice to type on, it's one of the few that come as close to macs that I've typed on. I wouldn't say the keys are more dull, maybe a fraction stiffer to press, but that's just me being ultra fussy.
Initially we did notice that some press releases mention GPS, however, we did not find any GPS function in our unit. There are a few different variations of these being released around the world. For example, here in New Zealand, it appears both the 500 and 700 Pro do not support mobile data (SIM cards). It's best to wait for your local retailer to stock the item, then go and examine it before purchasing to know exactly what one you are getting.
Hi, thanks for watching the videos. The battery life is excellent due to the Atom processor. It's the longest battery life on a device running a full desktop operating system I've ever reviewed. I get about 9 hours with normal usage, but with the brightness down and wifi off you could be getting up to 14.5 hours Samsung claim. We review the Pro version this week so make sure you Subscribe!
I would definitely try before you buy. 11.6" is very large for a tablet, and in portrait mode we did find it very long. Remember, the Pro is heavier, and thicker, and runs hot so it has fans and vents in the back of it. We are waiting to review the Acer Iconia W510, this is a 10.1"
I think you should forget about the performance of each device and consider what operating system you require. The Smart PC is a full Windows machine, capable of running old and new programs. MS Office applications are important for a lot of business users, and only the Smart PC can run them. I personally find the Android operating system too restricting to be a stand alone and productive computer at the moment.
Hi, thanks for watching my videos. It does have multitasking, but you can't split the screen 50/50 (eg. be writing in S Note on the right side of screen and have PDF open on the left side of screen). It allows you to be using S Note in full screen and swipe a PDF into view from the left, then you swipe it away and S Note comes back. You can swipe the PDF in and out of view as much as you want.
Hi, the Exynos is a pretty lightweight CPU, perfect for Android devices like the Galaxy Note 10.1, and even the Galaxy Note 2 phone we just reviewed. The Celeron is under more demand since its running a full version of Windows 8. It's good at doing basic things on a Windows computer. Its not fast, but its priced a lot cheaper than the Smart PC Pro. The Smart PC is more for people that want to use MS Office, type on a real keyboard, and have the versatility of having a full Windows computer.
Hi, yes it does. Out of the box it didn't, but when you check for Samsung updates on the device it installs a S Note update that adds the mathematical function. This is a great device for students.
Hi, thanks for watching our videos. This device runs a full desktop version of Windows 8, so it will run Office without a problem. The pricing is around US$750 with the keyboard dock. We are reviewing the Pro version this week hopefully, so make sure to subscribe to our channel!
Hi there, thanks for watching my videos. It plays full 1080p TH-cam videos perfectly. Excellent colours, sounds, and smooth playback in small window and full screen. If you move the mouse pointer around while playing 1080p the video will stutter a bit until you stop moving the mouse.
The performance of this new Atom CPU is better than the older Atom used in netbooks from a couple of years ago. Its perfect for MS Office, PDF, Internet browsing and Emailing.
Hi there, thanks for watching our videos. The keyboard dock acts simply as a keyboard and mouse trackpad. It includes two USB 2.0 ports and a power plug. It doesn't function unless the tablet is plugged into it.
Hi there, thanks for watching the videos. I'm not sure why they haven't updated their website, but the processor in the Pro version is a Intel Core i5-3317U @1.7GHz. It won't be a Celeron, or Pentium Dual Core (PDC) unless they are dumbing down the specs for some markets, which I highly doubt. For the true specs, use it's code name when searching the internet, XE700T1C. Make sure to subscribe to see the Pro version review coming next week.
Hi, thanks for watching our videos. The 500 is capable of doing almost everything a typical pc can do, however, it does need a second to compute things occasionally. Watching TH-cam videos and writing in Word is perfectly fine. If you are watching 1080p videos and typing, then the video might become choppy. You shouldn't be looking at this device if that's what you want to do. You should then look at the 700T Pro version. We hope to get one soon, so make sure you like & subscribe.
first of all i really like the things you r showing in your vids. I haven't seen any other ativ smart pc reviews or even a review of the s pen and the note features. A really big thumb up for that. My little problem is, that you could go on faster and more compact with everything (in all your videos ). You have showed now in almost every smart pc vid the sides and the inputs... but you have already showed this in probably the second or third vid. anyways, pls go on faster and youre the best ever
I'm considering using this tablet to take math notes and was curious if it was possible in the S Note app to take voice notes while writing. Recording the lecture while taking notes would make this perfect! Thanks!
I had the same problems. At first I thought it was the S-Note, but then i experienced the dead pixels while I was on TH-cam. I decided to return the device to Best Buy, and I replaced it with a new 500t...so far so good. Ive had no problems with the new tablet.
That's great to hear. thanks for the quick reply. I am currently looking into the vivo tab 810, the envy x2 and this samsung hybrid tablet, and am still trying to weigh in the pros and cons in these tablets. When you are able to get your hands on the envy x2, can you please also get a hold into its optional pen? From what I have read the device is running on Atmel technology, and has never been implemented on a tablet before. If the technology is comparable to samsung's wacom then I'm sold.
Do you think the 11.6" screen is too big, wide or heavy to be used as a tablet? My main purpose for it will be watching videos and surfing the web mostly sitting down so it's not like I'll be standing around holding it all day. And the wider screen I would think benefits watching movies on...
hi there, just wondering if the keyboard trackpad picks up gestures that are common in the windows 8 system, for example swiping from the right to bring up the charms bar or from the left to switch between apps. also how do the keyboard keys feel as compared to the macbook air? I know they are similar in looks but do they feel the same when pushing it down? I hear the samsung keyboard has a more dull response as compared to the macbook air which gives a much more crisp response.
Hi, thanks for watching our videos! I don't think you would want to change the operating system on these devices. They are built for Windows 8 operating system. I don't think the S Pen would work with anything else. It would be pointless.
when you are in the s-note application, if you swipe in from the right and click the share button, does it allow you to send the handwriting to Onenote?
Did you ever get an answer to your question? and did you end up deciding on either one? i'm in the same exact situation. im not sure which of the two tablets to purchase...
I was wondering if this has multiscreen like the Galaxy Note tablet does? And does this have a slot for a SIM card, or does it not work as a phone? Is the screen pressure sensored?
Hello mate, im from Australia... and New zealand is quite close to us. However i cannot find this anywhere. Im more interested in the Pro version however i wanted to try out the others to get a feel of them. Do you know any information on any of the models ? thanks for providing something though.
Hello, can you please tell me how to print the screen in this device ? because the keyboard doesn't have a Prt Scr button , same thing with Delete and Home.
We will be reviewing the X2, but are yet to have a confirmed release date. No pen will be interesting. So far there has been a couple of occasions on the Samsung when in tablet mode (left the keyboard at the office) where I have been forced to get the pen out to be able to right click on something. Usually you just tap and hold, but these two occasions it wouldn't work. So it will be interesting to see what happens when a device with no pen is put in the same situation. Make sure you subscribe.
i still notice there is a bit of lag when drawing circle and writing fast. How about using the s-pen in ms OneNote? also, can you compare its note taking capability to that of the new thinkpad tablet 2 which i notice it has zero input lag. thanks in advance!!!
so, does the ativ smart pc have multiscreen? what kind of adaptation from samsung note 10.1 that is in here other than the s pen n note. are the other s pen apps run here like on the note 10.1?
Hi, thanks for watching our videos! We had the same experience, exports only as jpg or note. We couldn't find pdf, hopefully they release an update or someone creates a program to do it.
Thanks for your answer :) I have another questions about the device because I want to buy it : 1- Does the Microsoft Office come with the tablet or I must buy it from the store ? 2- Can I open a word file, power point file, and internet explorer at the same time without any problem ? you know the tablet comes with 2GB RAM only and the processor isn't that great.
Dear TechTestDrives, I wanted to ask you between choosing 2 of these. Should i get the asus vivo book or this samsung atic smart? Which one is more better? Are their price different?
I'm in the UK and it costs the same here (£663 = NZ$1,299), scan.co.uk where I preordered it say it's released on the 23rd November but we shall see. Have you hooked this up to an HDTV? If so does it go up to 1920x1080 like the Surface does on a TV or does it only go up to the tablets' basic 1366x720. I considered the HP but the lack of ports or anything on the tablet itself was a big negative though it has some appealing features (battery in dock etc), look forward to your videos on it.
Many thanks for the time and effort posting these videos! Your demonstrations are simple and informative. I am definitely going to pick up one of these. Have to save up some money for it, though. LOL
Thanks for the videos this was a really interesting demo. If possible could you download one note from the windows store (should be free) and let us know if it works with the S-Pen and how it compares to S-Note.
Hi, thanks for watching the videos. Yes, the S Pen comes included with the device. You can also use the pen handwriting recognition to replace the pop-up keyboard input. We review the Pro version this week so make sure you subscribe!
Hi, we no longer have the test unit, however we had the same problem. We couldn't save the notes as PDF. Hopefully Samsung will address this. If PDF is a must, you could save the note as a jpg, then use an online converter to change it to PDF.
How does the Intel Atom Z2760 (Clover Trail) CPU @ 1.8GHz on this Samsung ATIV Smart PC (500T) compare to the Samsung Exynos (Quad Core) CPU @ 1.5 GHz (up to 1.8 GHz) on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1? Particularly in terms of performance speed, battery life, and heat? I really like the s-pen but not sure which platform to go with- android or windows 8. Also, I'm trying to justify the extra ~$200 on the Samsung ATIV Smart PC (500T) over the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1- is windows 8 worth it?
Seems like they dumbed down the Stylus on the AITVs. I remember the Series 7 Slate having a more Wacom style pen which I believe even used Wacom technology. This is more like the S pen for the Galaxy Note 2. Kind of a let down for people looking to use this for Photoshop or Corel Painter type work. (of course im talking about the AITV Pro which has full Windows 8.)
Hey great job. How is the general performance of the device? Have you tried it with Photoshop as yet? Really would love to get the device especially with the fact that I just got the Note 2.
How does the 11.6" feel using it as a tablet? I am trying to decide between getting the ATIV 700T Pro or the Surface Pro and that is one of the determining factors is if 11.6 inches is too much to use as a comfortable tablet. Thanks and great video! I subbed.
Your review was awesome! I noticed when I tried to export my S-Note doc it only allows to export as a jpeg or snote file. Is there any way to export as a pdf? I had the note 10.1 and on that tablet S-Note allowed to export as PDF. Thanks!!
I have the Samsung tablet Ativ 500 from ATT with 3G but has no built in Stylus, can I download an app or something so I can use the digitizer. It really stinks to not have this feature on tablet. PLEASE HELP
@TechTestDrives Hello, thanks for your reviews, can you please make a video about the "small" games on the Windows 8 Store like Angry Birds Space or others ? I am interested in this device but i would like to see if it well displays games like this. Thank you ! :)
Many thanks for posthing these videos, this one with the pen is the one I was waiting for, I already kept an eye on the Asus Vivo Tab, with the atom too, mostly because It's lighter and thinner, but this one is like a brother to it, isn't it? The only thing that It's not clear yet I think if which one has the better screen, yours with the Pls display or the Asus with their super ips+, If you are able to compare the displays, would you post an opinion about which one looks better? thank you.
We hope to review the HP Envy X2 soon, but HP are taking a long time to release the device to the market. When they do, we will review it. Make sure you subscribe to see our new reviews!
Correction: ASUS also has a design that uses Intel Atom x86 CPU. You can search for "ASUS Vivo 810 Tablet", and you will get it. That runs the full version of Windows 8 like Samsung Smart ATIV PC does. The ASUS RT Version that you are referring to uses ARM CPU and runs Windows RT. - Rakesh (Disclosure: I work for Intel, #IntelTablets)
could you show how this atom based tablet performs while useing Photoshop cs5/6, zbrush, maya/max, blender, some 3d games etc.? photoshop zbrush - most important ;] regards
Hi there. To be honest I actually deleted it. I did have a quick look at it but it's just another app (of the hundreds that are already out there) that stores your photos, videos, and music. This device came preloaded with a lot of Samsung apps, and Microsoft apps that I found useless so I deleted them. Call me old fashioned, but I like my videos and photos stored in windows folders, and my music stored in iTunes for easy sync.
Learned a lot from your video. I bought a ativ mainly to use the s note to write notes ( with math) and then export it to pdf. I am unable to export it to pdf. The only option i have are sng and jpg. Is there a way to save it as pdf? Thnaks Ram

Hi, there are two models available. One has wifi only, and the other supports Mobile Data connectivity (SIM Card). Our demo model is the wifi version.
agree! i notice that too.. but i think it's not the s-pen fault but the s-note app.. so i guess it'll be perfect smooth when writing in OneNote
You could always get an artists two finger glove if your worried about palm rejection. People use them for drawing on cintiqs.

Hi, you can but its not a 50/50 screen split. It allows a small video window on the left while using S Note.
So this is a minor request, but I was kinda curious how fully featured the S Player app was. I saw in there, but I can't find any info on it online.
JB Hi Fi sell the version reviewed here and the Pro version. I tested out the pro version at a JB Hi Fi store today.

The screen lock button is beside the power button on top of the tablet. Sounds like you have it turned on.
Hello is the SPen bundled with the device? And that handwriting software, is the same feature of the keyboard in Windows 8 ? Thanks

how is s-note performing with the very latest software bios updates from samsung??? is it still laggy??? with the wacom pen when you write??
Seeing as all the hardware is in the screen, is the device top heavy when docked? Could it be easily tipped over?
Is there the palm protection thing on the handwriting recognition?
I was wondering if this has multiscreen like the Galaxy Note tablet does?
And does this have a slot for a SIM card, or does it not work as a phone?
Is the screen pressure sensored?

how can i get the s note update? my unit straight out of the box does not have the productivity tools (formula match, shape match, etc....)
Its a full Windows computer. Yes it multitasks and can have multiple browser windows open.
I considered the HP but the lack of ports or anything on the tablet itself was a big negative though it has some appealing features (battery in dock etc), look forward to your videos on it.
hi there, a small little request here.. can u show us a demo of writing with s-pen in onenote??
arent samsung going to bring newer versions, I would really love to buy a windows tablet with a good stylus for notetaking
Many thanks for the time and effort posting these videos! Your demonstrations are simple and informative. I am definitely going to pick up one of these. Have to save up some money for it, though. LOL
Thanks for the videos this was a really interesting demo. If possible could you download one note from the windows store (should be free) and let us know if it works with the S-Pen and how it compares to S-Note.

hi! good review! what can you say about the performances of atom processor? is it good for using office or working on pdf files? thanks!
Awesome work dude. I have been hunting for a good hands on video and you have given it. Thanks heaps.
Is there a way to sync your s-note with the gs3?
Is it possible, to prevent the screen from finger- or palm-input to make it sensible just for the pen, to avoid annoying writing-problems?
Did you get ''formula'' alternative after the update?
Hi, we no longer have the test unit, however we had the same problem. We couldn't save the notes as PDF. Hopefully Samsung will address this. If PDF is a must, you could save the note as a jpg, then use an online converter to change it to PDF.

Thank you TechTestDrives, by the way do you have any idea when will this device be on sale in Canada?
And yes please also let me know if i can project the screen using a projector connected to the samsung ATIV/tks
Your review was awesome! I noticed when I tried to export my S-Note doc it only allows to export as a jpeg or snote file. Is there any way to export as a pdf? I had the note 10.1 and on that tablet S-Note allowed to export as PDF. Thanks!!

Dear TechTestDrives, I want to ask you if this device can run MS Office or not.And also what is the price of this product (in Canada)?
Hi, I'm considering buying this. How do hd videos look on this? And how long is the battery life?
I have the Samsung tablet Ativ 500 from ATT with 3G but has no built in Stylus, can I download an app or something so I can use the digitizer. It really stinks to not have this feature on tablet. PLEASE HELP

Can you import pdf's into s-note on this device like you could on the note 10.1
You can use Fn+Keyboard Combinations.
can i install all the programs that we normally install on a proper computer?tks
should i buy this or the note 10.1? which is faster and more useful for studying and gaming?
thanks!
can you use s-note and another app like adobe reader on the same time?
What's the difference between the 500T and the 700T?
Many thanks for posthing these videos, this one with the pen is the one I was waiting for, I already kept an eye on the Asus Vivo Tab, with the atom too, mostly because It's lighter and thinner, but this one is like a brother to it, isn't it? The only thing that It's not clear yet I think if which one has the better screen, yours with the Pls display or the Asus with their super ips+, If you are able to compare the displays, would you post an opinion about which one looks better? thank you.
Great videos I've preordered one of these. Are you making any more on the Ativ?

We hope to review the HP Envy X2 soon, but HP are taking a long time to release the device to the market. When they do, we will review it. Make sure you subscribe to see our new reviews!
Is this the model with the dual Android/Windows O/S.
thanks for posting this! i assume it's not pressure sensitive?
is this pressure sensitive like a wacom?
can you guys teach me how to do a print screen witthout using the key board? thank you
So does this run the standard (pc) version of windows ?
Correction: ASUS also has a design that uses Intel Atom x86 CPU. You can search for "ASUS Vivo 810 Tablet", and you will get it. That runs the full version of Windows 8 like Samsung Smart ATIV PC does. The ASUS RT Version that you are referring to uses ARM CPU and runs Windows RT. - Rakesh (Disclosure: I work for Intel, #IntelTablets)
Hi. We cover this in the video. We talk about it at 5:40
When held down, you can use it as the eraser
Anyone know how to convert att Samsung ativ500 tablet to be able to use stylus digitizer? The att version does not have a built in Stylus?

Hello there, i got a question,
Would you be able to download itunes on this version?
Does it hve the maths formula thing like in note 10.1?
