True. Unfortunately, it does. Me and the wife are in the middle of the Tartaros arc right now and have taken a break to start One Piece. We took a break in the middle of the celestial spirit thing too. The formulaic thing in the newer stories does drag it down a bit but I still love the music/show, just have to take breaks now when it starts to drag.
Actually, it's not the fact that it drags that annoys me. It's the fact that it always has to turn into The Natsu Dragneel Show by the end of every arc, at the expense of any other character that wants to get some character development of their own. Also, he kill-steals all the final bosses, after everyone else gets burned out dealing with the minions.

Like when the fights go on & on for several episodes but we already know that everyone is gonna get their ass kicked before the "Nobody messes with my friends!" thing and then someone (usually Natsu) somehow finds this superpower at the end. I like Natsu but it would be nice to see some of the other characters be allowed to step up. It was nice to see Wendy go all psycho and kick some ass when they were trying to deactivate Face. They need more moments like that.
