We were pleasantly surprised by Bordeaux. Easy to get around by tram or walking. Great food scene. Nice location by the river. We took a train to Arcachon and then a bus to the dune - very easy day trip, you don't need to drive. And re the water mirror at the Place de la Bourse - I think the light is better in the morning when the sun is shining on the buildings.
My family and I are going for a 6 day trip to Bordeaux in a month and I have shared this video and the "don'ts" video to the family group. The videos have made me even more excited for the trip. Thank you 😊
I used to have a bad impression of France in terms of pickpocketing, having lost a camera to an attractive couple making out on a train (classic) but, in Bordeaux, I left my phone in the park, and a cool youngster for whom I had just played a song biked half a mile up the riverwalk at night to return it to me. France has all sorts, and Bordeaux is a particularly friendly place.
Haussmann was the governor of the Bordeaux province, the town with its typical open architecture, large avenues and building styling was his inspiration for the Parisian style he created when Napoleon III called him to remodel Paris... the famous Haussman style.. without Bordeaux there would be no Paris as you know it today.
Thank you for all of your informative videos about France! I prepped by watching and now that I’ve returned, I wanted to give a BIG shout out to Bordeaux! It was my favorite city-even more so than Paris! And everyone was friendly and helpful. I will add however that there were a lot of tourists (like me) in town. The secret is out! 😂
Bordeaux has the look and feel of a warmer, sunnier Paris. All that 18th Century stone and river-setting, you could be forgiven for thinking the first few Parisian arrondissements had been dragged 200 miles south. Bordeaux clearly is lovely; open, but with a manageable feeling of ‘see all my important bits in a day’. All it really lacked was a core of tightly packed narrow streets opening out onto a few squares and perhaps a nice Plaza Mayor centrepiece. Everything seemed like I was wandering around the French version of Edinburgh’s New Town when I wanted a bit of tumbledown Old Town magic too!
I was there a couple of years ago. The amount of tourists is climbing, but it was so wonderful! The food, the wine, the ambiance were all outstanding! It felt much safer than Paris. The many side trips available from Bordeaux were varied and all lovely! The bus and tram systems are efficient. It is a great city to walk in with all the pedestrian areas! Wolter, you failed to mention the duck!! So good!! Do visit both a big winery and a small (Mom and Pop) one. They are both unique experiences!! Did I mention the food, wine and ambience? Go!!

I'm from Bordeaux and I must disagree about the public transport being convenient. Yes it gets you anywhere around the city, but it's always crowded like a cattle wagon. Also, don't use a car, there are trafic jams everywhere in the city and on the Rocade (highway) around it and you'll take hours to make a few kilometers. Best way to move in Bordeaux is by bike ! There is a lot of tourists everywhere, and not a few, especially on the docks where you are it's always crowded with tourists in the summer. If you went there in summer of 2020 there was nobody, be it tourists or locals because of Covid restrictions. Also, there are some neighborhoods where you better not act like a tourist (for example don't take pictures and videos, especially if you are filming people, it's illegal to take pictures of and film people without their authorization in France and we also very much dislike that for the majority). Be careful whenever you go in the neighborhood around St Jean trainstation and in St Michel.
I am reading your information. Very helpful as I may be relocating there for work. How may I ask how is the covid situation and people from other countries viewed? Thank you take care.

When did you visit that place?
October
Wolters World thanks,i got excited I thought we can travel to Europe again😌
I thought the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe was in Copenhagen for some reason. So cool, I miss traveling so much!!
I stayed for 3 weeks and did not want to leave... Nice city! I could live there....
France seems nice. I don't travel that much. I got sick when I traveled to Egypt. Traveling outside the US can be difficult if u aren't use to it
Well i wouldnt really be worried about that but if there is ever a problem health services are really cheap even for foreigners :)
