    Great video. I'm just starting an accelerated BSN program with the goal of becoming a PMHNP. I look forward to following your channel on my journey.

    Please educate us on the steps of owning our own private practice 😢! I’m struggling at figuring it out.

    Could you do some videos on setting up your practice? Like pros and cons of cash based vs taking insurance, EMR system and overhead costs? Do you have a mentor or what do you do when you have a difficult patient you aren't sure how to manage their meds?

      Hi there, thank you for the feedback. I already have a video posted on here about cash vs insurance. I will make more videos touching on these additional topics. And also, all of these topics are covered in full detail in my full mentorship program, see the description for the links!

    Just came across you channel and video, glad I did? Although I am still a year+ away from starting my own private practice, I have already started laying the foundation. Question… do you have other NPs that work with you in your practice? 😊

      Welcome!! And yes at this point in time there is one other NP and a psychologist that works in my practice.

    How much education do you require in order to open your own practice ? Is masters sufficient or you also require a DNP ?

    • @rootedpmhnpmentorship
      @rootedpmhnpmentorship  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Good question, I am not aware of any DNP requirement for opening a practice.

    That is fantastic! Thank you for making this channel and sharing your knowledge with us. Do you feel like the PMHNP jobs are increasing or decreasing since they so many psych NP online schools becoming available?

    • @rootedpmhnpmentorship
      @rootedpmhnpmentorship  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are very welcome! Personally, I see the same amount of jobs open as when I became an NP 5 years ago, though there are more PMHNPs than when I started, there is a higher and higher need, especially post COVID. The difficulty is that, jobs continue to lower the salary for PMHNP and many NPs are not negotiating (or jobs don't negotiate, either one) and so that is more the issue (being underpaid).

    hi very cool video. got a question, have you ever heard of a Masters of Nursing grad starting their own practice 6 months or so after they graduated and then saying they made $300K over a few months like less then 12 months after opening their own so called practice after graduating? Not sure if the statement is true or not.

    • @rootedpmhnpmentorship
      @rootedpmhnpmentorship  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This can be possible over 10-12 months (probably not a "few months") if you take insurance, network very well and start your business in an area of need. Always know that is likely the money that the business makes, often it is not what the individual can make as there are several expenses associated with starting a business in the first year and business upkeep. If you do the math, for simplicity, lets assume psychiatric visits are maybe an average of 100$ per visit that insurance pays, to make 300k you would have to do 3,000 visits at 100 per visit. Consider how long it might take you to do 3,000 visits. Say an NP is doing the (unfortunate) usual of 20 visits per day that would be 150 days which could be 7.5 months. However, it takes some time to build up a patient load of 20 visits per day. Successful practices might be able to build that up in 3-6 months. So 300k income to an insurance based practice could happen in a year but this is again NOT all paid to the individual. I hope this explanation makes sense.

    When do you recommend is an appropriate time to start a private practice after becoming a PMHNP?

    • @rootedpmhnpmentorship
      @rootedpmhnpmentorship  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This varies greatly on the PMHNP. Confidence, if theres jobs in their area, if they are in NP in another specialty already, what their RN experience is, if they are willing to pay for mentorship and supervision to help them if they are a newer NP. And many more factors. I personally think with the right set up and nurses' background, it can be done anytime.

    Did you work at the hospital before you open up your own practice? How long did it take you to open your own practice and it’s only telehelalth you do? No outpatient?

    • @rootedpmhnpmentorship
      @rootedpmhnpmentorship  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for your question! I worked at a hospital where I did consult liaison on some days and outpatient clinic on other days. I also worked at a residential. That was about 2 years of experience before I launched my practice. I launched telehealth with 2 in office days/month and rarely saw people in person even though it was an option. It took me about 8 months to open (because I didn't have a mentor or direction at that time), launches can be done in more like 3-6 months with the right guidance. Hope this helps :)
