    I must say that. We were a few friends playing guitar in the 60's in Paris. We knew the DJ of a discotheque in Paris, who said he comes back from London with a single never heard yet. We knew about JH , but never heard him yet. Then we ran to the Pierre Charron discotheque, middle of the day, only us in the place. Then the moment I'll never forget came . That intro , that sound. that touch . Jaws fell on the ground. the rest is history.

      Aaron Hall me too, which is why I bought one. Funny how people complain about the price since my extensive search for a good, affordable mini ge and/or si fuzz was fruitless. This is actually pretty good value with both si/ge and a bonus buffer. Love the Jimi pic too. Thumbs down to all the complainers who already hate fuzz.

  • @buddhamus

    Great overview of all the pedals. For my style of playing, I'd go with the Fuzz Face and maybe the Univibe. I like that the FF has both germanium and silicon transistors plus the buffer making it a little more versatile in terms of fuzz tones. The Octavio and Gypsys Fuzz didn't do much for me in terms of useful or versatile tones.

    coiled cables act as a low pass, so the highs loss are partially because of it too.

    • @SykoLiu
      @SykoLiu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, all cables act as a low-pass filter, and the longer the cable the bigger the effect.
      But you’re right here, and that’s why the buffer helped a lot! A buffer counteracts the tone loss from cable impedance.

    • @Mathcartney
      @Mathcartney 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SykoLiu yes and no. The coiled ones acts as a natural resistance because of the... coil shape. The normal ones suffer from the loss, but not in the same way and the longer the cable the more you hear, but a cool experience is have a 5m coil and a 5m normal one, you will hear a different kind of loss because of the coil "filtering".

    • @SykoLiu
      @SykoLiu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mathcartney What? The shape doesn't matter. The reason why a coiled 5m will sound different than a straight 5m is that there is more cable in a coiled one.
      I know that guitarists are prone to superstition, but thinking that the shape of your cable affects tone is a new one for me... Coiled cables simply require a longer length of actual wire in order to get the same practical distance.

    • @Mathcartney
      @Mathcartney 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SykoLiu in electric engineering you see this. Why do you think that inside some devices there are cables coiled manually? It goes even further than aesthetics, but that’s ok I’m not talking guitar world gibberish here, anyone believes what they want. Peace.

    • @SykoLiu
      @SykoLiu 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mathcartney I believe math and science, and I'd love to see the math behind your claims.
      It just happens that I study acoustics and electronics (so-called electro-acoustics conveniently), and I know that the science behind what you're claiming simply doesn't exist.
      There are many practical reasons for coiling cables beyond aesthetics, but it's never because the shape itself affects the way the cable/wire works.
      This is easily tested at home. Does your lamp look different when you move the power cord? Does your phone charge better when you lay the cable out flat? Does the sound of your guitar change as you walk around the room?

    Is the buffer on the first fuzz always on? because if so the last two fuzz might have their sound destroyed by that... It make sense to have a buffer on the output of the fuzz but on the input it always ends with a scratchy sound. YMMV of course.

    • @sagespane7617
      @sagespane7617 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      AFAIK the buffer refers to an input buffer in front of the fuzz face and not the the bypass mode. The pedal is always true bypass.
      And I totally agree with you I prefer the thick sound of an unbuffered fuzz face as well at least in regards to normal buffers.
      Some pedals have an input buffer with an inductive element to match the sound of the guitar straight into the fuzz but now you can put other pedals and still get that tone since the buffer mimics your pickups I know of the EQD erupter to have this feature.

    Does anybody know how to get the best Hendrix tone out of the band of Gypsy’s fuzz

    Remember the times when Lee used to vibrato and everything in the guitar would move but the string?
    Yeah, those are gone now :)

    I actually have a Roger Mayer signed Octavia.... Very cool pedal but it's a niche pedal. Gotta use a Strat(or single coil p/u), neck pickup and a cleaner sound and play around the 12th fret... Cuts the top of your head off!!!

    Jimi also used a gauge lighter on 6th & 3rd string.

    Pete: Jimi used t play with the volume knob quite allot when playing out.

      Jake Richmond lmao he was just in a new video.... nah he’s got two babies/toddlers, runs a guitar company, is in two bands, and does Andertons stuff as well. He’s probably just been busy and hasn’t been able to make as many as he used to

    Nice video, nice product, but some suspect dial tuning by both of you guys. I feel as though there were many lost tones skipped by wide increments in adjustment. Again i know that people want things done fast or they can't keep focus, but when sound is involved in decision making we need the time to hear them properly. Or i could perhaps get off my butt and actually go to a shop and check them out, but who does that these days.

    If you want those effects, sack all of those off, for the price of 2 of those you can buy a Keeley Monterey. All the same effects but also a Lesely rotary a wah in one pedal. Everyhting you need for jimi's sound

      @@pan6367 Hah! I have asked a few pedal making friends of mine how the heck it could be done. I've got an amazing fuzz from a builder called JSA (vid on my channel somewhere). It is just silicon, the same size as this and packed to the bring. Literally bursts open if you unscrew it lol

      Yep. I have a Good Vibes and it works great, but it doesn't work with a standard 9v power supply and it's bigger. (Annoyingly it absolutely must have that little extra at 9.6v or the effect is nearly inaudible) If that one works with a standard 9v, I'd be interested in picking it up for the size and convenience.

      Andrzej Marczewski I have a fuzz and it’s a mix of silicon and germanium. It’s a regular sized pedal. Slightly smaller than the average pedal. It sounds great.
