Shreya Ghoshal won the best female vocalist of the decade mirchi award for this song♥️. She indeed is a legend 🥰.
Just a correction.. The other meaning of the word "laal" Is yes indeed son, but here she is saying "Nand ke laal" Which is referring to Lord Krishna meaning "O! son of Nand" - " Krishna".
In India the word "Laal" Used to refer to one's kid is a very very loving word! Like if mother wants to pamper the child she will call her "O! My Laal". So basically Laal is only used when mumma is really really in a good mood and wants to pamper you🥰🥰
Laal also means the colour Red (which has nothing to do with this just fyi)
@@lavie7358 but, in this song, she refers to both... Rang de lall means : marry me
Nand ke laal is krishna ji
@@lavie7358 watch the whole video first!!
Shreya Ghoshal talked about this song on Berklee's master class.
@@seedhasaadabhartiya3312 I sad it has nothing to do with the song I was just telling another meaning THAT'S IT
To depict movement of water the instrument used often is called Jal- tarang. It consists of a set of ceramic or metal bowls filled with water. The bowls are played by striking the edge with beaters, one in each hand
Is Santoor also there?
Santoor it is@@tajnotpm6281
this song is literally the most beautiful song in my sense
from Shreya ji's vocals to music to instruments sets to atire...... just magnificient
what is the meaning of "the ending of this movie can"
There was this song from Bajirao Mastani called 'Ab Tohe Jaane Naa Dungi' dedicated to Priyanka's character that did not make into the final cut (idk for what reason) and is lyrically and musically beautiful.
You should definitely watch it considering you've liked all the songs from Sanjay Leela's movies
priyanka was not in padmavat .
@@user-ameriiiiicano He/She means Bajirao Mastani probably
@@user-ameriiiiicano lol yeah
Absolutely one of the best from the album along with Aaj Ibadat song
Yes!!! SLB actually always has a couple of gems in his soundtracks which never make it to the main movie - even Saawariya had a couple. There was another one in this - Fitoori, which is just as gorgeous! There were rumours that Aishwarya was going to do a special appearance song in this movie as he originally envisaged her as his Mastaani, but was later shelved. I always wonder if either one of these 2 songs would've been actually shot with Ash how epic it would have been!
Meena kumari, REKHA, Hema malini,Aishverya rai then deepika comes for their megical Performances. They all are best of their era.
You forget to mention MADHUBALA, especially in MUGLE AZAM
Thanks for reminding😀
Madhuri Dixit??
That Angelic Voice of Shreya Di, My God. Shreya Di is actually Once in a Century. Whenever I Listen to Her Songs, I got Goosebumps❤. Love You Shreya Di🧡
The fact that both of you are so interested in music and can breakdown the context of it, that's why your reviews for Indian movies would be perfect. Both of you understand and point out those details which are overlooked (as musicsl scores in movies are cliché for us), that's why I just love your videos. So fun to watch you guys !
Deepika and Shreya combo will always be the best
whether it is "nagada sang dhol" from Ram-leela(great movie btw hope u will check it)
"deewani mastani" and "mohe rang do laal" from Bajirao mastani
"ghoomar" from Padmaavat
and all these movies are by Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Manwa lage
Shreya Ghoshal's favorite actress to playback sing is actually Madhuri Dixit.
You should watch some their songs together and you'll see why, Shreya is the melody queen and Madhuri is the kathak queen.
The red colour she is referring to here is about sindoor/sindur , which is a red powder. At the time of marriage a man takes a pinch of that powder and puts it along the partition of her hair line on the scalp when parted right in the middle. So basically she wants him to marry her.
This song is literally the definition of "beautiful".
Holy crap...I think you've broken down the meaning of the visuals more than any other person. Amazing observations.
Deepika is such a genius actress and definitely a brilliantly dancer. Like the way she communicates at all times even when she is not talking. She is so so brilliant. Like you said Deepika is definitely the best actress especially when it comes to non verbal communication
Good actress, but not a great classical dancer.
@@theacechip she has nailed almost every dance she does in movies. You should give appreciation where its due
Thanks, the song means color me red, is in a semi classical Thumri (romantic-devotional) style based on love of Radha & Krishna called Nand, laal here is endearing term for child a boy too. Sanjay Bhansali is very meticulous in all details of his films. You are right it showcases her attraction & expresses love, interest in Bajirao. It was choreographed by the late legendary Pandit Birju Maharaj, a Master in Kathak classical Indian dance. He taught Deepika the basic mudra (movement-poses) Shreya is lovely as always, she is the best in portraying these unique beautiful classically led songs, she has indicated her voice and Deepika's face have become quite synonymous, a constant with each other over the years, from Om Shanti Om to Bajirao Mastani to Padmaavat films.
red colour symbolises sindhoor
sindhoor means married woman
she basically saying him to put si dhorr on her forehead and get her married 😊
About the point of being elated or in pain, it shows she has surrendered to the love.
I think they're able to deliver such a complex, multi-meaningful, elaborate piece that makes sense and really sits-in together because everyone involved from the set director to the choreographer and the music faculty is aware of each other's craft and expectation of the bits and parts because of which it's not just monochronic view but a synchrony of harmonized facets that really sings together towards perfection.
I love this reaction of yours!! Amazing how you have started understanding classical music. It’s full of soul.
The instrument you are thinking of at 8:20 are the anklets on the dancer’s feet. They have bells attached to keep them in sync with their moves. It also adds to the depth of the music
On the point of being elated or in pain, the scene shows she has surrendered to love.
Priyanka's character Kashi was the strongest in the movie ❤️
Lol, NO.
@@lightyagami5282 Lol she ain't talking about the history lessons here, she's talking about the character that Priyanka has played. Talking about history, yes it was the strongest and yes she was the most fearless of women.
Right!? Sometimes supporting actors steal the whole movie.
But deepika stole the show 😊
The way you guys understand the essence of the song...I don't think any indian would have ever thought it this way....the minor details you caught are insane....thanks for giving us indian viewers a different perspective of watching our own land made songs...
Baajirao mastani was actually not about a love story, it was extra-marital affair.
The song is in three different raags, starts out in Maand which is an exciting raga full of jumps and jazzy notes, then Behag which is a sweet and melodious raag of romance, and finally Puriya Dhanashree which is usually used to express sadness, danger or intense feelings like that
red is also the color of vermillion put in the forehead of some married women. She basically proposes to him through a subtle action that signifies 'color me red'
The instrument most likely is Santur - looks like a mini harp but placed horizontally or Jal Tarang - bowls of water - maybe with different sizes or volume of water, hit with small sticks to create a beautiful melody.
The vocals that you hear between shreya's singing are not sargams but syllables on tabla.
I have been playing tabla for 11 years now and I used to play these syllables when covering this song
Thank you for doing this on public demand even if you've already seen the movie and reviewed it!😃I was so mesmerized by this song when I first saw it in theatre on a big screen (it wasn't released on TV and youtube till much after the film's release) for the first time! Especially the opening notes and birds chirping - just perfectly recreates the early morning ambience! It's a tour de force with Shreya & Pandit Birju Maharaj on vocals, Sanjay Leela Bhansali (SLB) as director and composer, Panditji as choreographer as well. This choreo is based on the dance form called Kathak (same as in the three sisters video including Neeti Mohan that you saw). ANd you are right, not just Deepika, but SLB is known for extracting the brst out of his female actors - leads and supporting - in terms of presenting them beautifully - both aesthetically and in a performative sense. Aishwarya Rai was his initial muse - you've seen a couple of songs from SLB-Aishwarya collaboration (Devdas movie - Dola re dola, Silsila ye chahat ka - the one with the lamp). Also, fun fact from IMDb - The track "Mohe Rang Do Laal" was composed when Bhansali was waiting at the airport after his flight got cancelled.😂😂😂
Your next movie should be Ram Leela from Sanjay leela bansali with the same leads. Its a beautiful movie with great songs, great acting and cinematography.
Shreya was criminally robbed of the national awards in 2016 for this song and Kathirunnu.
It was my guess, this song will blow away everyone. I recommended this about a year ago for you listen. Song is great.
Dance is extraordinary, MUTE AND THEN SEE, THE EXPRESSIONS ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD MOST IS COMMUNICATED, EXTARORDINARY PIECE, music, dance , lyric and singing. You need to hear this a dozen times to enjoy the intricacies
Song is a old bhajan of Meera ji. It's original form is also very classical....
In Bollywood singer,s not got that much value and recognition what Bollywood actresses get. U guys are really good when it's comes to reaction..u guys try to understand and explain every aspect of the music and dance. The girl is so rich with her words. She put lots of amazing words and sentences while explaining all the stuff.
At 20:13, Wales’s finally became Indian completely in her own body language and non verbal communication.
That bell like sound imitates the bells on anklets. Best thing is the sound when women walk in them to dance in them is true music.
This is one of the best modern songs to bring people todays audience back to the classics
The water effect instrument is called "SANTOOR"
In this song Mohe means krishna ji 😊❤
Grt reaction. ❤️ You guys love Sanjay Leela work, do watch more of his movies. Most of his movies depict different Indian regions and cultures.
Devdas: Bengali
Guzaarish: Goan
Padmavaat: Rajasthani
Ram Leela: Gujarati
Here laal I.e. Red also refers to "vermilion" , which is a sacred powder that a woman put on her forehead after marriage....... In the last part of the song u could see her doing that gesture...(that is a proposal) she is asking Ranbeer to put vermilion on her forehead nd marry her.
8:00 that musical instrument called Swarmandal its like indian version of harp but it is always for saporting the vocal artis, never becoming a main instrument
18:10 thats also same musical instrument called Swarmandal not some bells 🛎
I know why you didn't find out about this instrument yet, because its so underrated instrument the even indian dont notice them usually but impact of this instrument is just amazing
As its purpose is just supporting vocal artist, people really dont even show any interest in it many people dont even know the name of the instrument but we hear it in almost all treditional song
If they understand the songs lyrics, they'll be even crazier😂😍
7:50 the instrument your are talking about I think it's "Santoor". Coz this instrument make sound like magical water drops .
I thought in this song the red colour signify love and marriage as the groom put kumkum(red) on girl's head on their wedding. Like in west when you see a girl wearing ring you consider her engaged or married, in india(hinduism) Putting red kumkum on head shows that the girl is married.
I would like to point out something. The little rif things in the song was a konnakol. With the tabla playing, and the Kathak bell things, I heard the words, "Dham, and Dhim!" Someone tell me if I'm wrong, because 'that's what I heard.
You should check Kavita Krishnamurthy. She is really underrated and classical legend
She has sung many songs in many languages.
Colour red is the colour of LOVE and spiritually also the colour red means LOVE. Both the loves go hand in hand love. Entwined
Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Padmavat. These are the Legendary Movies in India and A Huge Hit and A Huge Controversial
I just had the great opportunity to watch Shreya Ghoshal perform Live and god she felt like Godess Sarswati herself her charm was so enchanting I still can't forget the feeling
For TABLA.... They are just called LEFT SIDE AND RIGHT SIDE ....in Hindi it is BAHINA/BAYAN AND DAHINA/DAYAN... I think....
The chimes are the Santoor a traditional instrument that produces effervescent tinkling music
Finally,I have been requesting this for eternity... 😭😭😭
Efra that instrument is called 'Swarmandal' , or an Indian Harp.
So no one is gonna talk about the beautiful choreography by the legend himself Pandit Birju Maharaj.
7:51. Instrument is water n sticks based percussion one and is called a 'jal tarang' (where 'jal' in Hindi is water and 'tarang' means waves, here: soundwaves)..forming the musical tune.😊
That's not Saargam, that's called Konnakal. Basically used in Indian classical dances like Katthak or Bharatanattyam.
But Saargam is unique to vocal. It has 7 tunes: Saa, Re, Gaa, Maa, Paa, Dhaa and Nee/Ni. So it's easy to remember.
But musical Dhuns like konnakol are a whole new world. You may need a lifetime to master this big ocean of musical knowledge.
Omg finally i ve been waiting for this reaction. Thank you so much,my fav song from the movie
Hope u didn't miss the sounds of peacocks at the very beginning of this song. In case u missed. Go back to it. ✨
Lol Waleska's Last reaction 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Red is the colour of love but it also refers to sindoor which is most important for marriage and at the end she does make a gesture of putting sindoor on her forehead so shes basically asking him to marry her.
This song is choreographed by the late pandit Birju Maharaj. He is the best at classic katthak choreography
The vocal thing you are hearing in male voice is not sargam. A sargam is essentially different combinations of notes consisting of different scales of only there words Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, Sa. The Mae vocals by Pt. Birju Maharaj is Taal which in this case are the syllables of Tabla.
She Is A legend ❤
Shreya is a legend obviously
Love your analyses about music and general artistry in what you review. Especially when you tie things together across different perspectives.
At 8.10 the instrument is santoor which you ahe already reacted and concluded it feels magical
In India no one has ever come closer to expressing emotions than Madhuri Dixit.. If you think Deepika is great than Madhuri is exceptional there is no one like her. I would suggest react to Madhuri Dixit as she has ruled bollywood and still slays even now.
You should definitely check out 'kahe ched mohe' from the movie Devdaas
They haven't watched the "queen of expressions" yet
@@neerajgupta6875 they have already seen mar daala by Madhuri.
This movie isn't about love story its about an extra marital affair Padmavat too
Talking about deepika's ability to emote by just h expresion look at her and ranbir, s performance in agar tum saath ho... By far finest piece of improvisationonal acting in bollywood....
The dance form used in this song is kathak.. So just after the vocals by legendary shreya ghosal ends, you will hear great kathak legend birju maharaj's part.. That part is actually not sargam but the dancing phrase that we usually use in kathak as 'bol'
There is a difference between sargam and konakkol. Sargam is solvege in western music. So it the notes. Konakkol is the rhythm. It is ‘saying’ what the drums are playing. Percussionists basically say this as konakkol when learning to play either tabla, dholk, mridangam, pakhawadj etc
Deepika is only the latest among Beautiful women in Indian Cinema who's showing more nonVerbal communication in her acting. If only you could see SriDevi the golden actress who was an Era herself. And there are quite a few actresses in South and North Indian cinema who fit the same bill from even older cinema like Madhubala, Nargis, Jayalalithaa, ... Theres just too many of them lady Superstars to list!!
Hope you get to see their songs sometime in the future! 💜💜💜
Please react to this " BEST SELLING BOLLYWOOD SOUNDTRACK of Each Year (1990-2019)"
Here is the link th-cam.com/video/nFGQ2WZg-ng/w-d-xo.html
U SHOULD REACT TO "ang laga de" THIS IS A MUST OMG!!!!
Dance, music and drama are traditionally the three pillars of Indian theatre. So, all Indian classical dancers are trained to be expressive. If you like an untrained dancer like Deepika, you will be blown away by the actual trained dancers. Pandit Birju Maharaj (the one doing the bol for the taal or soniquete in the song) is one such trained classical dancer and is also the choreographer for this song. All the expressiveness is choreographed and should be credited to him. Sargam is a short form of Sa Re Ga Ma (the first four notes of the musical scale). It basically refers to the exploration of melody using musical notes. It always comprises of some combination of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni (the seven musical notes equivalent to the western Do Re Me Fa So La Ti). Any other sound that you hear is most likely representing the taal or rhythm.
im a lover of of Bollywood Movies since my Elementary but i didn't have time to analyze that like what you did in this video. Great Job!
You should react to "Nainowale ne " from the movie Padmavaat .
Answer to yr question, the instrument at approx 7.49 is a Santoor. It sounds beautiful. And has upto a 100 strings. Not an easy instrument to learn 😊
We need part 2 of Barfii ❤
It is a three layer shot.first layer is clouds second layer is Fort background of chittorgarh fort. The third layer is a studio shot where they are shooting.
so glad you analyzed this song even after watching the movie ❤️
Yes the soothing sound is bansuri and bansuri is called flute in English.
Once again a lovely analysis by you guys and yeah lovely catch at 18:36 TS. Waleska got the exact sound, the syllable is actually called 'Tu-Na' (with a soft T). And the notes of this phrase: Second (Tu)-Tonic (Na). Or Re-Sa in the Indian classical Sargam notation (indian solfage). Listen closely and you'll notice.
Your analysis as an outsider to this art form is just brilliant. Lots for us also to learn from, from you guys. Keep it up!
You guys should watch Rekha.. the actress who is epitome of graceful dancing like this. She and her predecessor Meena Kumari are the best in this genre. All the contemporary actresses imbibe skills watching these two actresses. You may give more credit to those actresses knowing how technically challenged those movies have been in early 60s and 70s
Birju Maharaj choreographed the dance. A lot of credit goes ungiven to him.
Shes married to the man who played the king in this movie
She talked about this song on Berklee's master class. You guys can check it out.
Another masterpiece is " bhor bhaye tori baat takat piya" from movie Delhi 6
You can check out her masterclass at Berkley College of music where she explains this song.
Check "THAT TABLA GUY" you will be surprised with his tabla playing abilities
Why don't you guys just try for an interview with Shreya Ghoshal or Sanjay Leela Bhansali .
It's really.... Common palace.... Not CGI... It's vintage classic choreograph vibes. Bro
8:07 the device used to create the chiming music could be the "santoor" its a beutiful instrument used in older Indian music (not necessarily classical). You should check it out.
the bells are ghunguroo which they tie it to legs and they r part of song and dance in indian classical music
Listen to the full song with no cuts!!
While you are reviewing indian movies, there is a movie about how the first indian film was made .. Harishchandrachi Factory.. an amazing movie and it is available only till this month end on Netflix.. its a must for indian movie lover.
Yeah... Guys the place is very real
That's the real fort in starting of the song. Amer Fort in Jaipur 😍
I love your analysis on this - so many interesting theories and thoughts 🧡
p.s Love Deepika 💛💛 one my favourite film of hers is 'PIKU' -- hopefully you guys can check it out one day
Love your review ❤
