Enjoyed it. Been trying to get to those waterfalls 3 trips so far and haven't made it, 4th one will be the charm. So how did you find the second portage at fat mans falls, was it findable when on the campsite, or only below the falls. Also you went thru cleary pond? An no footage. I hear that is a treacherous and miserable experience. How did you find it?
To get to the squeeze we had to go right when walking on the ridge next to the fall. The second portage was straight ahead, over a small crevice and down a less steep rock slide area. We didn't notice it until we went exploring after setting up camp that night. (The slab rock and moss terrain makes it so there aren't visible paths). Google may have lead me astray in misnaming the pond we went through from Lady Evelyn, we went south of Peanut Butter & Banana bay through a pond into the southwest channel of Lady Evelyn Lake that connects to Sucker Gut Lake. The portage out of that pond probably would be quite miserable in higher water as it skirts the edge of a marsh (the unseasonably dry conditions probably helped us here). The moose and sandhill crane sightings were in this area. I hope that helps!
great trip guys . congrats on the accomplishment .wish the fishing were better .
Same! From what we've seen in trip reports, the Lady Evelyn River isn't really known for good fishing so we weren't terribly surprised.
