dude, this bossfight is practically a GREAT addition to s2a! it would be a waste to not include this bossfight nor badass sounding music! this has alot of potential, and i would hate to see it not be used, _please_ reconsider not adding it! maybe try workshopping it a bit more, or maybe ask for a community vote/opinion to see where it would go!
This is really cool, but i can see why it was scrapped. Seems pretty difficult even for an old sonic game, look how many times super sonic dies to it, imagine if we battle this thing with regular sonic

Or just being the emeralds presence calling for Sonic as he enters Hidden Palace to destroy the (sparkling) monitors that seals them in order for him to find them all and go Super, and then beat the Serpent Golden Dragon Guardian.
Awesome idea and concept for a boss, taking away the emeralds so you couldn't cheese the boss is also a very nice idea. Love the music as well btw, hopefully it can be added one day as a brand new update, because it's really unique and I think would bring a lot of joy to the fans and casuals alike!

Huh, what inspired this dragon? Over the years I've noticed a few 'dragon' related things in regards to Sonic: - Yasuhara's level design doodles for Sonic 3 featured an unused Dragon (later became the dragon from Superstars more or less) - The original designer for S2 Hidden Palace went on to work on Spyro the dragon - Same designer at STI worked on Segapede, Zipp the centipede was animated with segmented spheres kinda like this dragon, and Segapede used the unsused S2 Hidden Palace as in it's prototype I'm guessing it's that stuff?

It was previously shown that the original entrance (2013) was closed and replaced. Judging by the floating emeralds and the end of the video... did you have the idea to recreate what was rumored about the hidden palace being a level where Sonic would learn to use his super form or is it something else?
The boss draws from the scrapped S3 concept, and during its development I referenced Valvalion from Gunstar Heroes for its movement and attacks. The idea is to test how good you are with Super Sonic. This is part of a secret Hyper Sonic unlock, and although the boss is dropped Hidden Palace will still be used for that. There will be a new entrance somewhere else in the game available to you if you've met certain criteria.

Why are they now tell us this over 5 months later? If we’re going by dates, they teased this boss on January 8th and worked on it all throughout January, got it into the state we see it in this video by January 24th and stopped, cancelled it shortly after, and then waited 5 months to break the news. Maybe don’t to get people’s expectations so high for that long and maybe people wouldn’t be as disappointed as they are now. To be fair, that thing looks like a coders nightmare.
This was originally a private video to show progress to the team. We decided to scrap it recently (see the community post) and made it public. I'm pretty proud of the programming, but the gameplay itself isn't good and I'm burned out trying to get it there .

Although it has been long presumed that a Dragon similar to Guardian Serpent and the one in Sky Chase '98 is probably what was always meant for an Extra Boss during the Death Egg Saga (in this case, the Concept Art for Doomsday '94 or potentially even a boss in the aftermath of The Last Battle in Space (Death Egg '92), following defeat of Robo Eggman with all the Chaos Emeralds), the concept of having something similar for Hidden Palace '92 (if not Warp Point or the cutscene for Olympus) really flushes out this part of the zone; what is effectively a more difficult Hybrid of Mecha Dragon (Rockman 02), the Orphic Vipers (Super Akumajou Dracula), Storm Eagle (Rockman X), and the battle with Death in Hellfire Saga is an ideal way to be introduced to Super Sonic and while I don't think that this is what was in mind for the original Time Travel plot, at this point this is possibly something that should be prioritized if Sonic Team ever goes back and does a proper Definitive Edition with all of the unused content planned during the STI days as it works effectively as a storytelling element and forces a genuine challenge to the player to be aware that getting Super Sonic is not for the weak nor those who can't properly adapt to his newfound power. In the event that this truly won't end up in the Final Build, wishfully all of Guardian Serpent's assets and functions can be repurposed in some capacity for Sonic the Hedgehog 02: Archives or Time Quest if it is felt by their respective development teams that such a boss would be ideal to incorporate if it lines up enough with the concepts they are setting out to faithfully recreate; this is the closest that we have gotten to having this fight proper in the Death Egg Saga, what we have witnessed thus far is solid and even if it still needs a little polish then I hope there'll be somebody out there with the know~how from the necessary standpoints who can optimize its intended vision, Sonic will get his day in the spotlight with the Dragon in some major form or another and fate knows fulfilling that ambition is inevitable. Honestly I can dig this in a way it comes off like an alternate reality concept and a somewhat light riff on the kinda creepypasta and horror stories that come out of people rediscovering things in older games. A pity it's going to waste but I at least hope the idea can be picked up again and retooled into something a little less intrusive.
This looks incredible!! I know a lot of people aren't fans of "Waiting" bosses, where you have to attack on a certain moment and not any time... but this still looks too cool to throw away, I think! Can't this be released as an optional super-secret boss, or a mod? It's beautiful!
I love this boss and also the music, just 3 things i would add/change... 1.- The boss can also appear on the left side 2.- maybe disabling movement during the cutscene and make the camera center the emeralds 3.- Make the boss appear closer so you could see it on a sega genesis/megadrive screen too! I don't know, just suggestions, nice work so far !!

I know a lot of work went into this, and it looks great in its own right, but it feels way too out of place in the context of Sonic 2. If this was in some rom hack that completely overhauls the game, it would be a better fit.
I can see ways to fix this, although I'm not a programmer. Definitely more frequent vulnerability windows (maybe during the lightning attack). And attacks with better telegraphs. Like on the triple laser, have a tracking beam that shrinks until the actual laser fires.
ngl This is incredibly sick. A challenging fight against a dragon for the right of getting the super transformation is a very interesting idea. Though the fight itself could use some more telegraphing of it's attacks... As for the small level before it... It's kinda meh. A fusion between the Proto Palace and mobile Hidden Palace would've been much more better
This looks so good, why waste it? You could've added just a few more interesting mechanics or a revamped version of the boss which has more happening on screen, you also could've have made it so you have no emeralds doing the fight, so it won't be that boring to sit through, please reconsider this, it was so close, I love it!

I love how the unfinished level design of Proto Palace makes more sense in difficulty of controlling the Super forms.

When we add stuff like this, we have lore ideas supporting them. I wouldn't claim anything as official though.

We're not really wanting to lift anything from Origins. I do want to mess with zone transitions one day, but we'll see.

This looks so good, why waste it? You could've added just a few more interesting mechanics or a revamped version of the boss which has more happening on screen, you also could've have made it so you have no emeralds doing the fight, so it won't be that boring to sit through, please reconsider this, it was so close, I love it!
I got burned out. I didn't want to work on it anymore, and that meant it was holding back the game.

...Not even Super Sonic is immune to the attacks... that beam can drain rings, even in a form that ignores any type of ring loss.
