Robert Downey Jr was meant to play the role of iron man. He can never be replaced by anyone. Hats off to you sir.
I mean... Someone will play the part someday, but it will be a vastly different version obviously. To try and emulate RDJ would be a fools errand, doesn't mean they can't find an incredible actor to do their own take on the character.
I would count on it in fact. There's no way there won't be a reboot of the entire series in 50 years after Marvel and Paramount reacquire rights to the entire multiverse... A full cross and inclusion of all the marvel superheroes as well as the X-Men, and the Celestials, and the Gaurdians, and the extended, future, past, et cetera... It's gonna happen 'eventually...' The game now is just determining how long they have to wait, and grooming the right actors, actresses, directors, writers, and contracts to ensure it all works properly.
Art is ever evolving, and this is the 'first' of its kind in terms of a decade spanning episodic series of movies without clear limitations (IE 2, or a trilogy et cetera). This is a remarkably refined piece of art in the large scale context compared to all that has come before... But firsts are almost ALWAYS the least refined, with future itterations of the same always improving on what came before.
This is also the sort of project that only MASSIVE companies can do with MASSIVE budgets, lots of A-list actors, tons of time, incredible planning, and ridiculously good PR, Marketing, and Audience comprehension... Soooo... It will be mainstream, but will be limited to massive studios.
In a lot of ways it's a change for the better. It's likely to prove to be the death of a lot of what would have been previously tolerable mind-numbing action movies. There will still be the occassional Need For Speed, but only within well established franchises, like how you just can't kill off new Halloween movies no matter how hard you try... However, new random action superhero or just action movies may not be tolerable by most audiences now, who are getting used to a good mix of humor, drama, plot, morals, and conflicts mixed into their action. Your average male adrenaline junky is no longer as easily satisfied as before, where a Michael Bay explosion fest might have been adequate now some plot and character development may be pre-requisite, and potential for future expansion may be the new 'expectation.'
I think it's a good trend, but it's pushing movies back to the Golden Age of Hollywood Studios in a lot of ways, as the ownership of rights to material is going to be VERY relevant in a market like that... Good for the thoughtful, maybe bad for flourishing of artistic freedom... Maybe...

@@aleaf355 When Iron Man went onto the spacecraft to fight Thanos the Avengers had fallen apart and Cap and Tony were not on speaking terms. Cap promised that when the time came, they'd fight together, win or lose. Civil War caused Steve to break his promise to Tony.
Tony could've called the whole time in between Civil War and Infinity War.
Mind you nothing would've changed except grudges held by Tony and guilt by Steve.

The Russo Brothers' MCU is the best film legacy one could hope for.
They have left a legacy of film that will take someone else a long, long time to better.
I've been alive for a LONG time, and I've seen A LOT of movies, from all genres of the scope.
Other than a little film called Lawrence of Arabia, and some Biblical movies...nothing got into my heart and soul like the MCU movies, and by extension, the characters.
I will sorely miss Captain America. He was an insurmountable example of what we should always strive to be.
I will sorely miss Iron Man. He was undeniable proof that we could turn away from being selfish to become selfless.
From the bottom of my heart, I truly THANK the Russo brothers for giving us the MCU we wanted; the MCU we NEEDED.

You know they based the end fight off that scene right? Not the other way around? They didn’t have endgame planned that early, the russo’s went back and watched all the movies w the writers multiple times for every movie they made
It was his greatest fear. It wasn't a prediction, but a hint, a really good one. Although not leading to endgame (cause it wasn't planned as early) the Russo brothers tried their best to make everything in the movies to make sense and lead to one point: Endgame.
