I listen to this song and laugh my way through rush hour traffic jams and road rage filled busy highway drives! Lord Mr. Ford look at this world You created!!
I've been playing/singing for 44 years and it never fails with this song. It doesn't matter what type of group I'm playing for, once I break out Lord Mr Ford, the crowd just loves it. I totally agree Gerry is the most underrated guitar player if there ever was one.
You got that right Joe... I play East bound and down as well and it too is an awesome song. I remember learning this song it took forever to learn his style of picking because there were no tabs or internet back then so it was on a tape recorder hitting play, the rewind , then play, then rewind hahahaha for hours upon hours til I got it to where I felt it was good for the public to hear.
Jerry Reed is a hero of mine for his contributions to country music, superb guitar skills, and for a particular performance as Cledus “Snowman” Snow in a little movie called Smokey and the Bandit. Rest In Peace!
PURE honest to goodness talent! WHY can't someone write songs and have talent like this anymore? Without any nastiness or hatred involved. Thank you Mr. Reed.
Barbie Benton ! Had a crush on her as an eight-year-old kid. When I was a senior in high school at Stratford High in Nashville, the school brought in a first year spanish teacher, who looked like Benton only with eye glasses. For me, I thought she was a student and even kidded her about it but throughout the year, I felt I was in love but it was major infatuation. An American legend and Hero 🇺🇸💪 Awesome Actor Comedian and Person 🙂 Great Humanitarian and Great Singer 📻 Songwriter 👌 👍 Always Funny And Humorous whether Singing Acting or jus having a good talk/conversation with 🤣🤗 RIP 🇺🇸💪 Jerry 😇 God bless you 👌😇 Gone but not forgotten 👏
Jerry was indeed the GeeTar Man! It's frightening how easily he played and sung like this. Jerry trained to the point where his fingers just went on 'autopilot'. You can tell that when he was ever interviewed about how he plays his songs. He has to stop and think about it, because he plays mostly on 'auto' :) Amazing.
I grew up with Jerry reed. Not underrated at all. As a kid in the 70’s it was him and Glen Campbell. Jerry was my favorite. An absolute comedian with killer guitar chops. Both Jerry and Glen could ride a guitars butt like it had a license plate hanging on it!
I wonder, since I was a young child some long time ago, if everything Jerry Reed ever did was as much fun as it looked like it was. God rest you Jerry. See you on the Other Side, Son.
Long, tall, lovely Lisa Todd dancing in the background.😍💓💓. I love this song! There's always time for Jerry Reed.😁 Can't forget cute Misty Rowe either!😍💓💓
I"m so Thankful I was alive when Jerry Reid,Chet Atkins,Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, Buck Trent, was alive .And I am sure I'm missing some great pickers as well. The Latest is Billy Strings. Look him up ,,,Hes Crazy Good.
He's like one of the 7 CGPs, how isn't he one of the greats? You don't hear names like Meryl Travis and Chet Atkins anymore unless your into that specific kind of music or plays guitar and loves the acoustic and never wanted to be a rockstar like the rest of the kids. Its like finding someone today listening to big band music, they're pretty unique if they are. The music was also overtaken by the rock craze and British invasion of the 60s. But back in the 40s and 50s Chet was "Mr. Guitar" with his style of picking
SuperEcwchampion Most wouldn't know the work of Eddie Arnold or Little Jimmy Dickens today. He is in the top 5 players in the world. Recognized. Only beat I think by Atkins and maybe Paisley.
I'm a guitar player and Jerry Reed is absolutely one of my all time favorites. My guitar player buddies still talk about him a lot. Among my musician friends he is not seen as just good, he is considered to be one of the greatest to ever play a guitar.
It wasn’t until that last lyric of “come away with me Lucille”, that I remembered my dad teasing my grandmother, his mother in law! Her name was ....... Lucille! Miss them very much!
As an automotive engineer, I think this song should be played in our offices every other Monday.
Should be played every day
And on the other Mondays you can play that Johnny Cash song with all the different years/parts (name??)

I wish I could give this video two thumbs up.
Jerry Reed is criminally underrated in country. He captured such a fun sound.
He sang rockabilly in the 50's. He is one of the most underrated guitarists ever.

Do you know the name of these tunes? I'd love to hear them.
In God's choir now! I can see why God invited him in!

Not underrated. Maybe not known from mainstream people, but he was Evis's favorite guitarist, and this places the man on the map!
