    Man, this vid needs an update! ORB is a really solid strategy but I'd love to see some additional backtesting. Maybe pair the strategy with a 1% trailing stop after that 1:1 level. Might be able to grab more of that continuation.

    Where did you learn how to back test?

    • @BeginnerTrading
      @BeginnerTrading  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I taught myself using my own method for the most part. I give myself a success and failure level for the strategy I use and that allows me to test it easily.

    Why are you paper trading 1k shares? I just see you rarely if ever pass 200-300 shares in TEFS so I was wondering the thought process...

    • @BeginnerTrading
      @BeginnerTrading  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because I wanted to start trading this strategy starting with 1k shares once I am done testing it. Plus, 1000 shares is easy to analyze regarding the results.

    How do you backtest a trading strategy ?

    • @flippantfishtaco3132
      @flippantfishtaco3132 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You download some sample data and you write a script to read that data from beginning to end, and record how the trades would have gone. It's like building a stock trading bot, but all the trades are simulated, and the data is not live data, it's historical and read from disk.

  • @Eddie.The.Trader
    @Eddie.The.Trader 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Damn, $AMD at around $20 Lol

    You didn’t give the criteria of the breakout. Is the breakout of the first 5 min candle based on price just exceeding the first candle’s high/low or price CLOSING beyond first 5 min candle’s high/low?

    • @BeginnerTrading
      @BeginnerTrading  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So I enter at the break of the high or low of first candle, setting a risk level of the opposing side of first 5 min candle.

    Opening range breakout is a popular trade. Lots of futures traders use it and I recently posted a video showing myself creating the bare bones of a opening range breakout strategy for emini futures on the TT platform from Trading Technologies. You can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/uIHOdV_TIdQ/w-d-xo.html
