So, you are a builder, an architect, a woodworker, a weaver, you know how to make tools, how to make concrete, you have patience, crafty hands and you have a lot of stamina. I learned a lot!!!! I am in awe and clap my hands in adoration.

dude made his own lime from rocks! when he threw it in the water, it was a chemical reaction, that completed the process, creating a lot of heat. This guy knows his sh!t!

    • @kokujuumc596
      @kokujuumc596 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Quicklime
When limestone is heated to around 900 ° C in calcining ovens (lime kilns), it takes on the appearance of powdery stones on the surface - chemically speaking of calcium oxide - called quicklime. This quicklime reacts vigorously with water to produce slaked lime or calcium hydroxide. Lime suspensions in water (lime water) spread on the walls (liming) reabsorb CO2 from the air and cover them with a layer of calcium carbonate.

I came here to watch a house of stone being build, these were my thoughts:
Oh this is a lovely place, but a bit dense still. - Man proceeds to use fire to make space.
Hm, still a lot of clean up to do. - Man proceeds to build a broom for cleaning.
I wonder where he will get his materials from. - Man proceeds to build a basket holder and go to the river for stones.
Is he ready to collect stones for the house already? What are his criteria? - Man proceeds to select stones for chalk extraction.
This is amazing! Natural mortar for stone walls. But why is he taking down this tree now? - Man proceeds to make a chisel.
Such technique... such... such dedication... is... is this man working on FLOOR TILES?! - Man makes wooden doorframes.
I... I am starting to get scared of what this man is capable of. But his ovens are broken, how- oh... of course. - Man tears down old ovens, uses the remains to build bigger oven.
Maybe I should just stop questioning his work. - Man proceeds to build walls, lay out foundation and floor, builds a window...
W-what is he doing? Wait- is he going for the tree sap? -Man hacks away on various trees.
T-T-Trunks for the roof construct right? - Man builds roof construct.
Uff... ok... now what will his choise for roofing be? - Man builds roofs out of bamboo skin...
Well, but that won't be very water proof, unless he has some- GASP!! NOOOOOO WAY!! - Man proceeds to make his own water repellant tar out of treesap and charcoal.
... welp, time for me to unsubscribe from LIFE and resign my status as homo sapiens. I'm an ACTUAL potato compared to this man.

Only thing is it's highly caustic and without protective clothing, gloves and boots I think he would have caustic burns where that line splashes him.
I may be wrong.... in the same breathe he is very clever to have gained all the skills he has.

@34:15 your concrete is too wet, and you shouldn't wet the stones before placing them into the concrete.
The bond is called "Water Bond" and once the water evaporates, it leaves voids behind.
Dry mix is best. That's also how shower bases are made. With very dry concrete mix, packed and worked smooth.
You rocks will easily pop out the way you install them. If you use a dry mix (mixed well), you can forgo the rocks and save yourself a lot of work and a nice hard smooth floor.
Easy to clean and keep clean, and not a trip hazard.
You've put a lot of time into this project of love. Great job.

An interesting illustration as to how the limestone cycle works. Heat limestone up to make quicklime. Mix it with water to make slaked lime. Use the slaked lime mixed with sand to make mortar which over time absorbes carbon dioxide and changes back to limestone. That is the way we used to do it before Portland cement.
