    Grabbed a bottle of the normal imperial in Tenerife for about €25. Finished the bottle off in a week, loved it, really great session rum

    Bar-seh-LOW not bar CHE lo.
    Thanks for the thorough reviews!

      There is an accent on the ó. Doesn't that mean the ó is supposed to be extra pronounced?

    I have tried most of this brand and they are good 👍. But there is one that is a 30year anniversary that is really good but it’s pricey at over a hundred bucks.

    Always a good day when Steve reviews a rum that I can find in stock in stores near me.

    even with the gran anejo i got caramel, toffey, vanilla,coffee, chocolate, honey and sweetness(specially for a sugar cane juice it was moderate amount just right), citrus like orange or zest, spices nutmeg backings spices cinnamon etc leather tobacco oak charring or that bourbon bubble gum taste even the empty glass had a strong caramel aroma

    just got the imperial to try, thought I'd hear your thoughts before i try it later :) another great video - i wonder if you were thinking of spun sugar but creme brulee does seem the right ball park

    Yes! This is one of the rums I suggested you review and here we are! So glad you enjoyed it and that we both agree that this rum is top quality! Sorry for being late to the party but for some reason I wasn't notified when you posted this video. Here in the USA, the Barcelo Imperial that I buy is 40% standard proof, so your 38% bottle must be a regional thing to the UK (don't know why the UK tends to get lower proof). Comparing it to the Flor De Caña, I would agree with you that it is indeed sweeter - despite my Flor De Caña also being 40% (don't know if we had the same bottle of Flor though) so I don't know if your lower ABV bottle is the reason for the difference in sweetness. I would also agree that this is a fantastic sipping rum, be it neat or on the rocks. I will say however that it does mix well with ginger beer and in cocktails, however I usually save this as one of my sippers and usually don't use it in mixes. It should be noted that I have been referring to the standard Imperial here that you tried first and not the Onyx as I haven't tried that one yet, but after seeing this review, I will most definitely be giving that one a go! Thanks again Steve for taking the time to do this review for us and for paying attention to your audience. This is why your channel has become my favorite go-to channel for rums. Cheers! 👍😎✌

    Great review Steve. BTW the "c" in Barcelo is pronounced like an "s", not a "tch" (think of Barcelona). Keep up the good work.

    I got a bottle of the regular Imperial for christmas this year. I'm still kind of unsure wether or not I like it neat. It's great with Ginger Ale or Coke tho. It really smells like nail polish remover or glue lol.

    think you're right with Crème Brûlée, also the name of the band in the league of gentlemen

      Yeah, just one of those mental blocks. I was saying Crème Brûlée but picturing a Pannacotta for some reason!

    Is flam the word you’re looking for for the burnt sugar note? I have never tried a sugar cane juice rum.

    what are those spray cans you got behind you some kind of fruit flavoring essences?

    • @StevetheBarmanRumReviews
      @StevetheBarmanRumReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha, I had to watch the video then. They’re Puree. ODK. An Italian brand but all over Europe. Basically 50% Fruit and 50% Sugar. They’re permanent stocks for me for Cocktail Masterclasses etc. (Basically a bottled version of what Martin Cate does in Smugglers Cove - 50% Funkin Passion Fruit with 50% Sugar)

    • @ARCSTREAMS
      @ARCSTREAMS ปีที่แล้ว

      ahh ok so they are not spray then? i guess you use them for cocktails or mixers @@StevetheBarmanRumReviews

    yeah i found it strange that the rums in dr are at 37.5% while ive seen them in the us at 40%?? i guess they are allowed to up the vol when exporting but funny enough i found my fav gin down there at 47%lol which is typically at 40% here in canada at 31 bucks and down there 17 us so i got a bottle lol and got ron rums at 9 bucks for 1ltr bottles i made off like a bandit and figured a rough saving of 100 dollars

    Howdy Steve! I was the first to watch it (it seems like that) Russian liquor stores are bursting with Barcelo of all shapes and sizes)))) But for whatever reason I escape that "fella" and don't know why. Maybe 'cause it's overhyped at every corner. Could ya please tell me what you think of Mezan Chiriqui (Holland-Panama), non-chill filtered, uncoloured, 40%ABV. Can i go wrong with that "beast"? I should't be mistaken, cuz I'm on a tight budget (The whole one year to goin' on pension-I turned 62 recently) Cheers!

    • @StevetheBarmanRumReviews
      @StevetheBarmanRumReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry pal...but again, Mezan is not that huge in the UK. We can get them...and that Chiriqui is listed. But I have only seen a handful of people ever mention the Brand here. Probably need to investigate more, but atm, I don't really do too much in the way of Independent Bottlers. I mainly focus on Distillery Brands, cos there are a LOT of them to cover. But then, I suppose these are just a tiny version of Plantation in that respect, so perhaps I should pull the trigger on them!

    The problem with these rums is the low ABV. 40% is already low, having less than this puts me away from it. It’s to watered down.

    • @StevetheBarmanRumReviews
      @StevetheBarmanRumReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ha, it you think 40% ABV is too watered down, you're missing out on waaaaaaay too many fantastic Rums!
