Japan Studio was playstation. 90% of what I associate with playstation from my childhood was made by them. It's a damn shame Sony chose not to support them more during the PS4 era.
I mean they released the last guardian , gravity rush , gravity rush 2 , shadow of Colossus, every body gold, astro bot, freedom wars . Bloodborne, demon souls (Japan studios worked on them believe it or not). I think it's the day one sales/ customers that did not support them enough to keep the studio. There are still .otr games that came out from them but yeah. They were supported in the PS4 era. People will say they were not marketed but they were at their e3 and PlayStation experience events usually. I think they made too many new ips personally. Probably should have focused on 1 or 2 ips to build
@@uchennaobi5985Their games sold well enough. People who claim otherwise are blind fanboys believing everything their favourite corporation says. Sony wanted them to make large AAA games and Japan Studio was not up for it, which gave Sony a reason to close it. All companies are greedy, some companies are too greedy and have unreasonable expectations. Sony is one of them.
This was the beginning of the end for Sony, if I have to be pessimistic. From the PS1 to the PS3, they were the perfect blend of mature, narrative West and experimental, emotional East. All I can hope for is that Sony will return to their roots, or else Nintendo and independents will be the only thing keeping gaming alive for me.
You can play most of these now on ps plus. Ive played pupeteer and gravity rush. I also know they have siren and ape escape. Ill miss this studio. I hate sony sometimes.
it does suck because they make games that were amazing and they gave us good exclusives but now we don't have a company like them we don't get unique fun little games we just get large scope action adventure games with inflated budgets
Just found out you video (and channel, of course). This video brings some melancholy to me, I've grow up consuming some japanese media, and thankfully here where I live some of the IPs (manga, anime, etc) came here with some proper translation, without the tampering from Usanian corporations. Seeing now that the trend of vandalism towards japanese media (and calling it "localization") has been getting back for a while, that japanese companies are catering to US views and relocating there and they getting more and more intake from the US agencies make finding your video sad, because it reminds me on what we, as consumers that appreciate these medias, are losing during this process.
Blame Jim for his anti-weebism and anti-nostalgia. Anti-weebism pisses me off to no end. No wonder he’s quitting this year. Yes, I’ve praised the PS5 nonstop but the third party Japanese made software more than makes up for the loss of Japan Studio which I won’t forgive Sony for. Don’t get me wrong, Spider-Man 2 for example looks awesome and all, but I’ve always preferred Japanese made software, big or small.
Thanks TH-cam’s algorithm, for recommending me this. Anyway, with Japan & now London Studio gone it’s only a matter of time before Sony Santa Monica gets the axe, therefore Sony closing all their in house studios that they didn’t acquired.
It pains me to see this happening; I’ve been a fan of Japanese media for years and to see this happening is just…heartbreaking to say the least, and I’m not even Japanese.
They have published many games, the most famous of which will not succeed, so it is natural that they will end, but the solution is for them to change their policy to a specific plan.
Yes, but Sony themselves never published it and they regretted it after seeing how popular it became. Hence why they rectified their mistake by releasing a remake many years later.
You can hate them even more when they give Korean market a special treatment. Open new PlayStation stores, held shows and events despite Jim Ryan's silence rest of the world. They want Korea to see PlayStation as a lifestyle over games in sport and gambling (PC and mobile). PlayStation held a Develop event in S. Korea where 200 developers and publishers gathered in early April. Christian Svensson said there are lot's of talent over there. 200 is a number that Japan can't match since 1993 when Sony held an event for 250 developers and publishers in Japan for a aggressive campaign with their first console on the market. Since then many have closed and others merged, it became a smaller industry for opportunities. Sony follows the money, that's the reality. If K-pop can become popular in Japan after many years of dominance of AKB48 so can Korean developed games. K-pop is accepted that 48g is so irrelevant nowadays and Akimoto's new groups after Sakamichi group don't see same success.
@@Kawaniska I hope things will change for the better when Jim Ryan is out. Ever since Kiichiro Urata was appointed to company director in Aug 2022 which is the biggest position next to CEO he has layed out works in Asia and Japan. Lot's of account managers who will find studios in this region. S-Game with Phantom Blade Zero is a good example. Asia account manager in China, Pei, brought S-Game to GDC this year to show Christian Svensson the game. Since Sep 2023 they had a job listing for a team who will identify M&A growth in Asia. Korea is a safe bet and China is not far behind. I hope they do something about Japan and build a new studio because Polyphony Digital and Team Asobi only look pathetic in comparison to SIE Europe and America. I welcome SIE Korea and SIE China with studios to PS Studios family. They should just drop the interim CEO nonsense and appoint Kiichiro Urata as the next CEO of PlayStation. But since Sony is a Japanese company like Nintendo they will drag out on the process. Furukawa was not appointed until 2018. Kimishima was interim CEO from 2015 to 2018.

if I need to summerize japan studio in one word will be "Art".
Because they always get creative with the tools they have
I love this!
Japan Studios may be gone last remnant is Team Asobi. Japan will take back Playstation in future.

Such a shame your video's don't get more views, I really enjoyed this and you gained a sub from me!
Thank you for watching and subscribing! It's greatly appreciated!!! 😊
It’s up to Suda51 now
Luckily, patapon will have a successor with ratatan.
It's very nice to see these things happen!

Why ps5 has no games and ps4 has anazing ones. Japan studio

gravity rush 2 never made it to handheld like the original :( which is why it considered to fail compared to its predecessor

The studio should’ve worked with NINTENDO
Well, if I'm not mistaken, most of the Japan Studio devs ended up in MonolithSoft (owned by Nintendo) and Fromsoftware, after the studio banished.
The remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls both spit on the original. Bluepoint is terrible at remastering and remaking games.
They have published many games, the most famous of which will not succeed, so it is natural that they will end, but the solution is for them to change their policy to a specific plan.
Great video
Thank you! 😊
Bro idk who told you that Demon's Souls didn't come out on PS3 outside of Japan. But it did. lol.
Edit: I'm dumb.
