    Hello, great video, thank you~!
Just finished a successful battle with Denon AVR-1601 receiver with the same symptom. Completely dead, not responding to buttons but measuring perfect CPU voltages as you indicated. I almost came to the same conclusion of the bad microprocessor.
To make it short, the culprit was the dirty button keys. In my unit, K1, K2, K3 lines were measuring intermittent and fluctuating low voltages (they should be right at 5 volt when nothing is pressed at turn on). Apparently this made the microprocessor confused on its own wonderland and unable to wake up. You can check your unit on the line K1 to K5 (AVR-5600).
For AVR-1601, solution was to remove them all, clean and check each buttons for on/off state. For you unit, I guess there is still a good possibility that the microprocessor was indeed dead. But I thought I suggest others to check the key button and voltage lines before trashing it. Worth the trouble in my unit.
    Cheers,
    Terry

You can't win em all. Great trouble shooting video though. I learn something every video you put out. Thank you NorCal!

I am learning on how to troubleshoot these units, I have a Denon AVC-3800 extremely similar circuit. It does exactly that, dead, nothing, 5V at the processor and ground is there too, I haven't checked the power down and reset pins but I'll do all your checks now. What I tried, I supplied 6v to the power pin, from voltage regulator through an external 4.7 K fuse and the voltage was dropping to under 1.0V indicating high current. Was hoping to get the main relay on and make sure that part of the circuit is OK, now I have more questions, more to study and figure out. It's a hobby and I like these hard to crack ones, it's making me better anyways

I really like the way you explain the component's role in the circuit while going over the schematic. Just sayin

Great tutorial and troubleshooting skills! I am impressed! Have a denon smaller receiver that blows a fuse got a meter trying to find a way to start to prevent it going to the landfill.

Hello!! Do you know where I can find the control for this device? or a compatible parallel model?

Tons of Built-in biasing resistor transistor in that unit, anyway to test them using the multimeter?

How do you reset the Den o n AVR 5600?

Did you check c601 - just above the mini trans on the first schematic you put up in the video, if not worth a go. The unit won’t switch out of standby if this faulty.

Even if it is faulty the main power relay RL601 (in parallel with C601) would still pull in and power up the unit. Even if that cap were shorted it would always be on (power the the main toroidal transformer), and it was not.

Shame this whole unit stops on that one part. It is a beast. I was wondering what the other pins on the processor were doing. Could there be another line that is in the wrong state for the processor to run the code past a certain point? There are lines called Reset, ovl, ac3 detect and protect, etc...

It was the key lines in my Denon AVR-1601 receiver. Old dirty buttons fooled the microprocessor to think some buttons are pressed in at the turn on, this lead to no response, no wake up described above.

    hi
I have a Denon AVR-X5200W with the same issue, no power at all no red signal no clicking when plugged into the power. I checked the voltage on switching power supply board it looks ok! Could it be a HDMI board issue? I have tried to connect a deferent switching power supply board ( Denon AVR-X1400H) when I plugged the power cord it makes a clicking sound and red signal on power button comes but because the power supply is completely deferent it does not turn the receiver on! If the HDMI board is bad why the red light comes with the different power supply board? I am confused is the issue related to the HDMI board or switching power supply board? please tell me your opinion, Thanks

Late to the party, did you ever find the issue on your Denon? I have the same unit as you with the same issue..

This one might not be economical to repair, assuming you can obtain a suitable equivalent replacement microprocessor; even then there is no guarantee it will fix the problem. Sometimes it's better to chuck in the towel with some jobs - especially the really nasty, complex ones.
