  • Grandpa is sick and Oliver has to take him a load of firewood so he can stay toasty warm in the freezing temps! OLIVER TO THE RESCUE! We hook up the fore cart lickety split and head down to our “swamp" to cut some firewood! Once we get it all chopped and loaded we deliver it to grandpa and grandmas farm, just down the road from our homestead. Oliver of course does AMAZING! He is making leaps and bounds in his training and gets better by the day! We are so proud of him! If you want to see more of his training check out his latest video here
Oliver is a two year old Clydesdale stallion that we rescued earlier this year with the help of our viewers. He was very sick when we first got him and REALLY Underweight. He has come a long way and made a full recovery from EPM. He is now well and strong enough to start training to pull and eventually ride (Of course with the ok from our vet and chiropractor). Oliver has had quite the journey!

I don't understand why people are so judgemental, you can use whatever commands you want with your own animals. The most important thing is to treat them with love and respect and be consistent in training. Oliver is a real treasure ❤

back when used regular and necessary, when bought, sold, traded,borrowed... it was common commands helped even rookies... like the Amish, not everyone is a horseman, there are "mechanics" that swap and fix... the "one man" training attitude is fine if never in public or having to trade caretakers...

I have been around a lot of dog trainers in my voluntary pet therapy and animal rescue days. They all had different methods of training and commands they used. Some trainers were excellent and some I would not take my own dogs to. My personal trainer was excellent. It was all positive reinforcement, simple commands and consistentancy. JR can use what is comfortable for him.

I’m British and thank-you so much for rescuing and helping preserve our wonderful Clydesdales. These, and our Shire horses, are the gentle giants that have stood the test of time. 🥰

I'm British too and it's so gd to see a Clyesdale doing the work they were bred to do. Sad to say we are losing alot of our heavy breeds like the Suffolk Punch and Clyesdale and Shire here in U.K although there are dedicated Breeders fighting to save them. Watching Olivers story has been a beautiful advert for these gentle Giants. I'm impressed with how the Americans take to them and our Gypsy Cobs. I have a Tobiano mare and Traditional Piebald Mare both the gentlest of horses and a New forest pony and his pal a shetland x Welsh. Love the native breeds.

Eager to please? It's not like he has a choice. He is being forced to do this kind of work. The dude needs to buy a tractor and quit using poor animals for physical labor. 😱👎

From the start, Oliver has not shied from the dogs, the atv, not reacted to the mares, nothing has startled him. He has always put his full faith and trust in you. It doesn't matter what commands you use, because he is your horse. He is extremely well cared for, well fed and he is loved. There is nothing more that you should be doing, regardless of couch potatoes telling you what to do. He does show a bit of spice sometimes but I am happy he does, it shows he's thinking for himself which is not a bad thing. I also see he knows exactly what he is supposed to be doing, and he wants to do it by himself, that shows so much growth. You two are an excellent team. ❤

I've learned from other channels that so many horses end up blind...
Sometimes because being worked without blinders to PROTECT THEIR EYES.
Often they can get staked or scraped their eyeballs by broken branches on trees as they go working...

I remember that first image of the sad, thin, dejected colt at the very first auction you ever laid eyes on him. Seeing the strong healthy boy trotting toward your parents farm with the load of firewood was an image to behold! How far you and Oliver have come. It is wonderful. Hope Emeri follows through and puts together an Oliver calendar. And to think this young man is also going to have a youngster on the ground later this year! NICE! - ACD

Oliver is your horse and it's your decision which commands you want to use. Don't listen to people on the Tubes here who are negative. That being said, I had no idea that Clydesdale and Shire horses are trained that early. But you live and learn. I love these giant horses and it pains me that some of them are just used for labor and then discarded like a piece of junk. They are so eager to please and usually have such a calm demeanor. Oliver is just gorgeous.

Oliver is doing so well. When you were hitching him up, you "whoaed him", his feet were not squared up yet he stood still for you. He is so smart and so willing.
God really blessed you and Oliver when you found each other. Maybe his original owners, the farm where he was bred and born, prayed for him to go to a good home. He went thru a rough patch on his way to your farm but I believe he was for you. In some way perhaps an answer to a prayer that you sent to God as well.
Look how this one horse coming into your life has changed your plans for your breeding program and the people that this horse has brought into your life, Ruben and others that you have reached out to in order to learn about draft horses. The auctions and shows you have gone to. And of course a whole huge community of viewers whose interests in horses are doubt varied, from fox trotter owners, other horse owners and all of us non equestrians but horse lovers etc. WOW!! God sure works in mysterious ways. Ya gotta just love it.
Love to everyone, human and animal, at the homestead and love to all my fellow viewers.
Stay safe in this crazy weather.
    ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊

Amazing parking skills....I know people who can't back their car/truck that well. Oliver is certainly a beautiful horse now...I remember being on pins and needles when you took him to be evaluated for "wobblers"...thank goodness that was manageable. You have found your heart horse ❤🐴 in Oliver, I do believe. 🤗

Blinkers on a horse who is pulling anything with people in it are an absolute safety essential. I learned that lesson the hard way training my first foxtrotter gelding to drive. Safety!

That horse will do what you train him to with the commands you teach him. There is no set rules. My Dad had a team of horses and they loved him and would do anything for him. It was the relationship between the two. He is wonderful. So majestic.

Oliver is doing great, I was training my Tennessee walking horse, before I got to sick, but she's got a great home cause I can't walk anymore, and they have continued her training and she looks good. And blinders aren't cruel, they are very important.

Oliver is in very fine shape thanks to you. The commands you use to train him are what works best for you and Oliver,❤️ And the blinkers so many who work with a draft horses usee them. Keep on doing what your doing, it works. Oliver is a hero bring some firewood to your Dad. Hope he feels better soon.❤

About 55 years ago a neighbor had a pair of Clydesdale's. Those 2 were text book gentle giants. In a rather stiff winter with about 2 to 2.5 ft of snow on the ground they were hooked up to a hay waggon sized sleigh. Dragging it out to the loose hay stack wasn't a problem, about an hour later with the sleigh loaded it took the team 3 or 4 'lunges' to get the ski's to break free. There is no way a 2wd tractor could have made it out to the haystack never mind back again. Truly, having the privilege of watching a couple of horses pulling that much hay and making it seem so effortless is definitely memorable. BTW the loudest complaints came from the leather in the harnesses.
