I find it funny that Mick and Stamper were both young adults off living on their own having existential crisis watching the disaster unfold in front of them, worrying about World War III, and meanwhile 11 year old Chris Zach and Cory were probably actually playing Legos

I was born in April 2001 and my mother told me that she almost dropped me hearing about this news... she said that she was terrified when the retaken plane crashed since it was around 50ish miles from where we lived at the time. I wish I could know what it felt like on that day, as to understand the feelings during that day. since my generation is the last that is going to feel this, it is losing it's prominence and respect from the new generations coming in.

I was 14 in English class at the time, we got let out of school because of it, I didn't realize what that really meant at the time, until I got home and actually seen the footage, now as a 14 year old, I didn't really care about the world I couldn't see, but I balled my eyes out after I seen it, then i seen the second one hit in real time and broke down again, same when the other plane crashed in the field and I still can't see that footage without crying, not because I knew anyone there, but because I could imagine and sympathize with the terror those people must have felt, it was surreal living during that time, the world was a weird place at that time

As fucked up as this is, without 9/11 I wouldn’t have been born. My mother was pregnant with me when she was 45 years old. Due to her age, there was a plethora of risks that would come with being pregnant and giving birth to me. She was encountering some difficulties and there was a doctor who was going to fly in to check on my growth and discuss abortion. However, after 9/11, the doctor was too afraid to fly. When I was getting my EMT training in NYC one of my instructors told us about how we had to drastically alter our emergency response system after the attack because the initial response was *atrocious* . The way the was original system was, was that one borough was the fire response, one was the police response and one was the medical response. You not only had to have these teams respond from other ends of this crowded ass city but if you needed multiple units from different fields (which you usually do) *they* had to contact that command center and relay what *they're* being told to that command to assist. There was an overload of calls to dispatchers while everything was going on from people watching the attack in Queens on tv to people in the South tower so the immediate response wasn't accurate to what was necessary combined with the horrible traffic meant the medical and fire units could barely get into Manhattan from either angle
Long story short, we have a huge building with all three sections in it

I was in third grade. I woke up to my mom pulling me out of bed and telling me to get ready for school before saying "I need to watch the news, an airplane hit the World Trade Center". She had the TV on the entire time I was getting ready and when it was time to go she was still watching with her hands over her mouth in shock. Before we left she called my dad and I'll never forget hearing her say "well that crash didn't look like an accident" (she was in the airline travel industry and knew something was up). By the time I was dropped off at school the second tower was hit.

i remember being in kindergarten when this happened, my teacher freaked out in the classroom and then when my mom picked me up from school that afternoon, she hugged me so tight i couldn't breathe. then when we got home she had the tv on and the tape already recording in the vcr. i felt so weird all day and i remember going to bed super late because i was waiting for something good to happen, something happy to maybe come out of the situation, but i remember they did a candlelight vigil right before i fell asleep and i remember crying as i watched it. that was such a fucked up day and i didn't realize until i got to be an teenager/adult just how fucked up and scary it truly was.
edit: i say "teenager/adult" because i never rly paid attention to it until i was in the bracket of 16-18, then i looked into it more and it was probably one of the scariest things. i can't describe it but i know everyone here who remembers gets what i'm saying

I remember seeing the towers fall while I was in school. We were in senior kindergarten and the teachers filed as all into the library, where they hooked up TVs and had the channel tuned to CNN. I never forgot, must've been like 4 or 5 at the time but it was weird to see as a kid

I remember going to school [it was only a block away] and the principal started panicking over the loud speakers 'Everyone, this is [principal], please pack your things and go home for the day.'
As I got home, my dad had the living room TV on Channel 7 [I believe it was Fox News], and we saw the second plane strike the second building. I didn't know what was going on, I was a 5th grader, 10/11 years old. I, too, thought it was a movie and we were sent home to watch it or something. I don't remember what I did the rest of the day, I just remember not knowing what happened and how big of a thing it really was.

In the UK, I was in primary school at the time. All classes ended, we all called into an assembly, they wheeled out a TV in front of all us and showed us the news and then we got sent home. Don't really remember my reaction to it at the time.

Seems like a lot of the old comments are from people who were super young when 9/11 happened. I remember it because I was starting the 6th grade and I was also living in Saudi Arabia (Former Canadian ex-pat) and we were going to an American school. When we were walking out the door to go to school my mom turned on the TV to CNN and she had just caught the first plane going into the tower. We were already running a little bit late so we thought nothing of it (as Mick said when the first tower hit most people just thought it was an accident) and we made our way to school on the bus. What we didn't know was that what was showing on CNN was a replay AFTER both towers had been hit so when we got to school it was deserted apart from a very small handful of people. It was a surreal moment being in my class with a relatively new teacher (most of the teachers were Americans) who was clearly panicked about what was going on but had to hide her emotions even though only 3 kids were there. I remember after about an hour they just gathered all of the middle school/high school students to the basketball courts (probably less than 50) and explained what was happening and they sent everyone home. I don't remember a thing about the rest of that day, but what I do remember is just how drastically life changed in Saudi Arabia. The security detail was the first thing to change DRASTICALLY. I'm talking multiple police checks, machine gun mounted vehicles, and literal fucking tanks at any location a Westerner might possibly even be. The American population at our school dwindled MASSIVLY as well. Once they could start booking flights a massive number of Americans didn't feel safe anymore and left or planned to leave at the end of the year. My family felt the same way and moved back to Canada after I finished the grade.

I asked my parents what it was like when 9/11 happened,
my dad was at work and he was on the phone with a colleague who was telling what was happening and he just says "It hit".
And I think my mom was at home and was looking at the news.
