I was right there. I had walked down to get water after the second set. I was there at the left side of the stage as he returned to encore. Security let me step in closer. I was about 30 feet away as he sang, without no one else around. I had tears in my eyes. You could feel the vibration and witness the silence at that moment at Red Rocks.
First heard Doc sing ’Am I Born to Die’’ in 78 at Gerties in greenwich village He was there with Merle and T Michael Coleman and he also sang it as the first encore on along night of fst picking.. To hear Billy own in the same way 44 years later was as if to die and go to heaven for 15 minutes.... My heart flies today. With Doc and Billy the soul brothers of flat picking.
This was a magical Moment ! Only the sound of grown men whaling . i happened to be one of them . He Blessed those Rocks ! And pay Tribute to Doc ! im a Cleveland Co. boy myself and it gave me goosebumps . So Grateful that the music lives on ! Blessings my Friend

Lol. You are looking at a real live American legend. There will always be detractors, Billy is authentic as it gets. Pushing boundaries, honoring the foundations. Bill is carrying the torch for us

Haunting sounds from roots originating centuries before America was born.
? The song was was written in 1786..
Being from North Carolina I grew up on Doc's music and what Billy has done to keep it alive is a blessing. Thank you @billystrings!

Thank you. Legend at his guitar, but has an incredible voice too ❤
What a phenomenal performance this was.
Pretty powerful singing here, the entire audience is silent and transfixed.
it was amazing i was in row 8
The way this permeated the bodies of 9,500 standing among the giants of Red Rocks...
*Very powerful

Great great. I found Billy Strings by accident on TH-cam a couple of years ago. Never knew he smoked.

Chilling. can't believe the crowd actually stfu for this!
Billy crowd is legit
No kidding!!!
Billy has a thunderous voice
It IS a great Doc Watson tribute, but the song is much older--it's a Charles Wesley hymn from the 18th century.
This is frickin awesome!

2nd time to hear beautiful tune
Idumea written by Charles Wesley. We love to sing it Shape Note. I don’t remember who wrote this extraordinary tune.
I know Billy actually met Doc and played with him.
Thank You, !!
You can feel that one in your soul
AMEN! Period!
Love it❤❤
Wow 👌
So fucking good
Holy shit bro!!! I'm dead!!!
Cold Mountain the movie. It’s in the soundtrack.
Everyone should take a moment now to go listen....great soundtrack
Idumea.
True talent Wow baby so amazing love all of your skills always your Sunshine ❤️🌞
some pipes on the kid!
He does no wrong in my eyes……😋
🔥🔥🔥
AAWWWOOOO
Ralph Stanley: “O Death…”
Billy Strings: “Hold my joint. On second thought, don’f.”
Nice vibrato
Wow!
Sing it William Apostol
😲😲😲
I remember my stupid friends saying he couldn’t sing lol
Isn’t that Amazing Grace tune?
Incredible rendition. His voice is perfect for this song but guaranteed he will ruin his voice with that smoking, like Joni Mitchell did.
I prefer Ralph Stanley, myself. Different strokes, I guess.
Yeah I prefer the actual southerners not the grifters like billy or molly tuttle.
@@hankhill4151 yes. Talented? Sure. But....lacks .....authenticity.

I’m not happy that Doc is accredited for Idumea. He sang it. He didn’t write it.
