I wish that Paul Revere and the Raiders were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I liked Paul and the Raiders version. Better singers.

The Raiders recorded "Louie Louie" at nearly the same time as the Kingsmen. The recordings were so close together that it is argued which band recorded first. In any event the Kingsmen version is the standard because of better marketing (the Raider's label actually hated rock 'n roll). The Kingsmen unfortunately had a short life. Turns out the mother of the drummer decided that HE would become the lead singer. It was a good laugh for the band's members, until they learned that she had registered the band's name as a trademark. It was her band! The result was inevitable.

KingSmen were first and the two songs are clearly different.

PR&R recorded the song in a minor key giving it more of an edge, rather than a garage band sound.

Saw Paul Revere and the Raiders in Portland when I was 12, 64 now. My Brother took me to the concert. Remember them playing this song. They were the first L.P record I got.

Howdy from Dallas Texas. When you saw the Raiders in 1964 wasn't that the year they started wearing the colonial uniforms? Do you remember? Either way I'm sure they were damn good

      That's usually the case.
There's just no way that the vibe, energy levels, novelty, & innocence can be replicated 50+ years later 🤷

Saw the Raiders in Atlanta when I was 13. Great band, but this vocalist is horrible...

  • @mnpd3

Jesus, that was horrible. The instrumentation was fine, but someone needs to put the singer out of his misery.
