In the Book of John, the narrative recounts Jesus Christ's presence at a nuptial celebration in the town of Cana, located in the region of Galilee. Accompanying Him were His closest followers, His disciples, as well as His mother, Mary. When the supply of wine dwindled to nothing, Mary approached Jesus with the request that He publicly perform a miraculous act, thereby openly revealing His Messianic identity to all those present.
In a formal tone, Jesus addressed her not as "Mother," but using the term "gynē," which translates to "woman" in Greek. Though the word may come across as less respectful in the English language, its implications are different within its original cultural context. He questioned what relevance the shortage of wine held for both of them, and went on to clarify that the divinely ordained moment for Him to reveal His true nature had not yet arrived.
Ignoring His initial hesitation, Mary simply turned to the servers at the wedding banquet and instructed them, "Do whatever He tells you to." Acting on this guidance, Jesus directed the servers to fill six sizable stone jars to the brim with water and present them to the chief steward of the event. When the jars reached him, the steward discovered, to his amazement, that the contents had transformed into wine. This was no ordinary wine either; it was of exceptional quality, superior to what had previously been offered to the guests.
John concludes this narrative by noting that this extraordinary event in Cana of Galilee was the first among Jesus’s miracles. Through it, He unveiled His divine magnificence, leading His disciples to place their faith in Him. Christ - who is God - performed his first miracle at the behest of the Most Holy Mother of God, likewise she prays eternally to her son for the salvation of all.
