In my opinion the cultural factors play a significant role in enhancing safety in China. There is a societal norm in China that discourages unruly behavior and encourages mutual respect among citizens. This cultural cohesion leads to a stronger community and harmony, where neighbors often look out for one another, enhancing the safety. Welcome to China! www.youtube.com/@ChrisHereToday

If we travel in scenic areas and see people with huge backpacks, they must be foreigners. You can leave your luggage at the hotel or the supermarket. No one will steal it. Get used to no cash in China, just your phone. A small Fanny pack with identification is all you need.
I think the biggest problem you have is the language problem, which is more serious than theft.

You are right. The kindness and character of the Chinese are the manifestation of 5,000 years of culture engraved in their body and mind. In the past history, the Chinese were taught that no matter what happened, they should not only consider themselves, but should consider their family and country first. Freedom is actually always in everyone's heart, but the freedom in the West is the freedom to do whatever you want, including crime, while the freedom of the Chinese is restrained freedom. They will not force others to accept things they don't like.

In the West, Individualism is emphasized, the Freedom of the individual, and the rights of the individual. I live in Hong Kong and haven’t been into mainland china since 2007. Used to head over the border to play golf when I be over on holiday from Australia. I just came back from Shenzhen and only thing I want to say is wow, it has advanced so much and it is clean and safe. I think western media used to always say that they eat dog and cats etc but if you look at how pampered these pets are now you will know this is no longer true. The people worried about the cameras have something to hide. If you don’t do anything wrong, what you worried about 🤷‍♂️. One thing I will say is for any first timers in china, watch out for those scooters on footpaths, always zooming past. Just walk normally and you will be fine but don’t be walking all over the place might be a bit dangerous. Once you get used to it, it’s fine.

Chinese infrastructure is flourishing and state of art ; making public transport, highly accessible, comfortable efficient, affordable and family friendly. Shopping malls, public parks, amenities and streets are very well maintained, safe and the civility is very impressive. It's the opposite for (all the above facilities) in the West!

From the failing country of Hungary, where btw I have a rich full life I was thinking moving to west thinking about my and my kids future, but I can see that Germany, England, France, even the Netherlands are lack of safety. Also, thinking about the value of dollar and what is behind it, I don't want to be on the losing side in history by moving to west. It is very hard for me to write this down, but this is the truth.

No stealing only work in China because it is a civilize country. USA is uncivilized due to selfishness that were instill into their kids as they grow up. They were taught to be selfish from a young age such as looking out for yourself, being #1 (in sports competition), winning (debates), making the most money. These ideas were spread all over their TV programs, you can't miss it whether in words or action. They were never about cooperation unless it brought benefits to oneself. This rooted ideology and culture brought a sense of carelessness and uncooperative behaviors and all kinds of unjust or even inhumane behaviors.
