Would be great to see him do well again. Columbus is not a great environment for a lot of young players. Really a shame how bad the Jackets room has been over the years.
As a Montrealer, it was a great trade. Jordan Harris for a 2nd round pick was okay, but we have a shot at Laine on top of it. We have too many defenders in Montreal, and Harris was the smallest one, except of Lane Hutson, but Hutson is very talented.
OK, guess I am a Montreal Canadiens fan now and will have to start calling them the "Habs" (what on Earth is the etymology there..?). Really hope Patrik's best is yet to come. Want to see that otherworldly one-timer go right through the goalies again. Magic - which the NHL needs very much. Can't wait until October 10th...
Back in the 1950's most Canadiens players came from the Province of Québec a francophone journalist give them the nickname of Les Habitants (i.e. The local populations aka the hicks from the sticks) . So the nickname :Les habitants have been shortened to The Habs.)
From what Kent Hughes said in his zoom meeting, From what Laine said in his Zoom meeting, I do not believe Montreal intends to trade him… I think Montreal actually wants to keep him, If Laine does do good and let’s just say he’s a 30 goal 30 assists guy and can play at least 70 games, Then I believe the Habs will be looking to resign him… He does fit the timeline, By the time Laine is on the final year of his deal Demidov will be here and that’s when the Habs will completely turn the corner… The Habs need some older more experienced guys and Laine is going to be one of them, Gallagher, Dvorak, Armia, Anderson etc these guys will all be gone in the next 2-3 years and Montreal will want to have some older guys on the team, Laine fits that, His talent fits this team we need an elite goal scorer to give support to Caufield to take the load of caufield… In my opinion this rebuild is gone for Montreal, And what I mean by that is they are not going to sell players anymore, Laine if he works out fits with this team they will not sell him, If he doesn’t work out I think they will move him, If it works out they will try to resign him… Montreal is this season away from being a playoff contender in my opinion.. I don’t think the Habs will make it this season, But after this season is when everything will change, Laine in my opinion is apart of that… Only two ways Laine doesn’t stay here is if it just doesn’t work out, OR we get to resign him and he wants the contract he is on now, If Laine takes a 5-6 year deal at a cap hit of 7-7.8 million then the Habs will sign and keep him…
habs traded sean monahan to jets for first pick it may happen again if patrik play good enough to be traded to playoff team for first round pick, but not good enough to force habs to sign him for 5/6 seasons at 9-10 millions$ year
CBJ dealing from a weak position. Laine had to go and the habs are a good fit for their top 6 in the moment because they have cap space. In 2 years - maybe not. 37 goals this year. 44 next year.
Laine will be fine. Hopeing he bounces back next 2 years. Habs will resign him 5.5 mil per year over 5 years. Book it. In addition Habs have several inflated contacts coming due in a couple years.Kent Hughes is an excellent GM. 👌
yes they goiing to have, because at least 3 of their high salary player go ufa and unlikely hugh going to hire ufa next 2 years all potential rfa are signed, so only laine may be the next big sign in 2 years if he force habs to sign him, but other are roockies, old veterans, rest are signed
Hockey Insiderrr probably follows Grant McCaig. He mentioned this trade possibility in January and several times since. He didn't name Harris as the return but that's not the lead story here.
Great trade by Montreal. Harris for a second and Laine for free. Cap space wasn’t a problem. It’s only a 2 year deal. If it doesn’t work out, ok. If it does, great. Or he gets better and we flip him for a 1st like we did Monahan. There’s no stress here. It works either way.
How about this scenario? 1. Montreal turns Laine around but is still out of the playoff hunt. 2 dangle Laine at the deadline and retain $1.5/ 2 mil. 3 Habs get a first rounder +. If not, he's a real good piece.
It would have been nice to see him back but it was unlikely without a lot of other stuff happening first. Columbus wanting to retain zero salary kind of made that a no-go for anything Winnipeg would have been interested in doing.
I called him DeMelo-lite. Nice defensive player, maybe not going to help loads with the offensive side of things, but as a lower-pairing guy, seems like an easy plug and play. Swapping him out for Laine and a 2nd seems like a pretty smart deal!
@@LockedOnJetsNHL Jordan Harris is A) A great human being B) A decent middle of the run Defensemen who is 1,4 M$ /yr was select 71 rst in the 3rd round by Montreal in 2018. I was not for that trade. My own view he is a scoret only but not a team player all around. I feel that Montreal probably made some kind of mistake what I am saying at first I was not for that trade at all. To my eyes I feel he has a scorer talent but not defensively I do not find him reliable. That is my personnal view I hope that he will show me otherwise.
It's good for Habs didn't pay huge ransom for PLD last year. Now Habs get paid 2nd round to take Laine. Salary cap is not the problem for Habs. If he can score 30 goals this year, next year, Habs will eat 50% of salary and flip him for another 1st round. No, Habs will not keep him long term.
Laine will dominate this year.
Would be great to see him do well again. Columbus is not a great environment for a lot of young players. Really a shame how bad the Jackets room has been over the years.

habs is the short version for the french nickname ''habitants''

I beleive he will flourish and find his passion again in MTL
What a steal
Thank goodness this is done. Now we can focus on the Jets of today and not a bygone era.
I wish Liane all the best and hope he reaches his potential.
It does suck for the content side of things haha.

Very good analysis of the trade.
Laine and Caufield on both sides in the first PP wave..
I wouldnt want to be on the other side lol
Would be nice to hear the thunderclap of Patty's one-timer again.
They're both righties though, they might play on different powerplays or one at the blue line.
Hockey Insiderrr probably follows Grant McCaig. He mentioned this trade possibility in January and several times since. He didn't name Harris as the return but that's not the lead story here.
Didn't we sweep the Jets with our ''OK'' group of forwards?...LOL....
the new gm is even better than me...i had a lil girl called timmins holding me down tho

Yeah I think they were one of the few teams that could make this work really well for all parties involved.
2025-2026 : top 6 : Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky Laine - Dach - Demidov

The Goalden Finn
Getting Laine would have helped ticket sales. Another blunder by Jets GM. I’m losing faith very quickly in Chev.
It would have been nice to see him back but it was unlikely without a lot of other stuff happening first. Columbus wanting to retain zero salary kind of made that a no-go for anything Winnipeg would have been interested in doing.
We just didn't have room for Harris, he may even have been placed on Waivers. He is a 7, 6 or 5 at best. Jack of all trades but master of none.

All you have to do is offer Hughes a draft pick and he will do anything.
He's not your boy and he's over the moon to be in Montreal.
Sure! Good for him! We're all hoping he does well wherever he goes. Just treat him well!
A premium player in the biggest hockey market in the world 😅
Dosent sound funny to me
I hope he strives for 2 seasons then sell high
Habs got Laine because no one else wanted his big contract and his even bigger ego

That's what I was thinking. His injury history seems like a big risk to commit to long-term, but a year or 2? Perfect gamble.
