Absolutely love your work! And the way you present your videos with no bs and lots of detail makes me feel like I could actually do this too (lady learning to weld right now). This really helps. Appreciate your talent and your sharing of knowledge 😀

Most of the women I know who get into welding do so to make artistic items. Of the welding processes, TIG welding is the most aesthetic; it’s also the toughest to learn (so I was told many times) which is why I chose to and started to learn welding with this process. The biggest thing for me to overcome was my own apprehension.

Looking for cool videos from a variety of creators to feature in playlists on our channel, and this definitely caught my eye. The end product looks so cool, and it's great that you can still see what some of the original tools are without it taking away from the sculpture being a grasshopper!

I didn’t know springs retained their shape when heated, shed a little tear when you cut the hammer up, still it lives on I guess. A nice eye for detail.

      Hey Ian,
So you see, you still learn every day!
I think the hammer will stay with us longer now, it had already been thrown away once.
      have a nice weekend.

Little did those tools know that they would be metamorphosed or is it reincarnated?, into a cricket 😃 I never cease to be amazed at your imagination and technique

Great video Brutus. I am interested in hobby welding and have been searching youtube for how to videos. When you were making the grass hopper i noticed you did not have a grounding cable attached to the piece you were welding. Is that normal? I was under the impression you have to attach a ground cable to everything you weld? Another topic is i have a lot of old had tools and old bar stock. Some of the metal scrap i have is hardened steel. Can i weld that with a mig welder? And another question is i have old hand tools that i cant tell if they are cast iron tools or steel, like old pipe wrenches and some very old spanners, not sure how i would tell what is what until i eventually start the welding process and notice it didnt weld properly. Thanks.

      Thanks for watching my videos!
      Your questions:
I have no grounding cable on the piece i’m welding because the work bench has a steel plate on it, and that’s grounded.
If it is for decoration you can use a MIG welder to weld hardened steel.
Mostly old hand tools are not made of cast iron, you can weld them.
      Good luck with your creations!

Very nice shit done man-style….so of course, I love it. Thanks for putting this out. I made an ant for my wife out of stainless rod and rocks with silicone bronze filler rod using TIG welding after seeing one at a garden center. She calls it “Flik”.

You could still use these tools, but they are really worn out!
If you look at the hammer head you will see that quite a few pieces have broken out of it.
