If one goes the meat-free route and becomes a vegetarian or vegan, they just have to be careful to eat combinations of foods (including beans & pulses) that includes ALL the 9 essential amino acids and to maintain a good omega 6 to omega 3 fatty acid ratio. They also need to pay close attention to getting enough calcium. If they are willing to put in that kind of dietary effort, then meat is unnecessary. (A nutritionist will help keep your meat-free diet balanced and healthy.)
