Before putting into the real growth tank for this modified Kratky Hydroponics system, the seedling need to be incubated in a nursery tank where you have a full tank of nutrient. The roots will grow longer and longer. The roots will be long enought o be transplanted to the Kratky tank in 1 to 2 weeks.
Hi Billy~ Thx for your awesome videos! I was wondering if this system works like autopots? where the new nutrients wont be supplied until all the old nutrients are used up by the plants?
Yes and No. Yes, it controls the water level, only the max water level. No, it does not control the low water level. The Autopot is a more advanced design where a second float valve is involved on the outside to control the low water level. I have tried a number of design to do what Autopot does, but are not stable enough to share. i.e. sometimes it works, sometimes it does not work. It's because while stopping water flow is easy, stopping air flow (second float valve) is. a bit more tricky. This is one of my attempts to do what autopilots does: This one is the first attempt with diagrams describing the theory behind this. th-cam.com/video/jFU-bGxyo_Y/w-d-xo.html. This one was my last attempt before I gave up on it. th-cam.com/video/vOO47X8YGvM/w-d-xo.html. You can search for float valve in my channel to see more
Not really if you keep the base of the float valve close to the bottom of the growth tank. Or you can put a bigger bottle on top with small holes to function as a guard .
@@BillyCdiy Thanks for that. I want to try a few different float valve ideas. I will probably go with the 3D print version as the only square/rectangular bottles I have available are a bit soft.
@@snarkfinder2621 , I have redesigned my 3D printed float valve to fix a few issues. Will release a video soon. Also trying something else to use a fill up bottle to keep a preset water level using the atmospheric pressure. Check this out. th-cam.com/users/shortsy1QU4-sfSF8?feature=share
Awesome work, thanks for sharing
Very ingenious ! Thank you for developing this simple float valve. Could you give more detail or a source for the silicon tape? Thank you.
That is awesome! What is your method for getting the roots to be that long?

Do you have any problems with roots getting into the float valve assembly?
