5:40 i've never seen an expletive used in a game... maybe Will should make a video about funny words that actually played a crucial role in a game? feels like an interesting idea that the youtube algorithm might find delicious
There was that final match a few years back where the highest scoring move was the N word which was played and then swiftly disallowed... Not an easy one to make a video about thought
It’s actually worth pointing out that there is a video on Will’s channel that features the word “jism.” Not wanting to share the meaning of this rather unsavory word, Will jokingly puts up the definition as “let’s just focus on the game now, shall we!”
Geck was absolutely wild. In most complex strategy games like chess and go, even when one player is dominant, the greatest brilliancies are widely distributed. But in scrabble it seems like Nigel is hogging 25+/30 at least of the greatest scrabble plays of all time, which is insane. Also normally in strategy games there are different styles and a player that goes for crazy plays all the time will not be as consistent. But Nigel is the most consistent and the most creative. People would probably suspect him of cheating using a hidden computer if he wasn’t way better than computers too.
That last bit hits different. He can't be cheating by using computers, he's better than the computers! It's an incomprehensible level for someone to be on.
Before finding out about competitive Scrabble, I never thought I'd say this unironically about anyone, but Nigel Richards is an absolute blessing. Insanely skilled, beyond comprehension, and unbelievably humble to match. You can't help it but respect him. What a guy.
I just rewatched the others in this series last night and was waiting for this episode! Keep up this series! Among other of your scrabble video series you love making, yours and Josh’s videos have always kept me so engaged in the scrabble community, much more than I used to be!
The word at 0:52, yakow, is hilarious to me! There is a proper word for this in Tibetan, ‘dzo’, referring to a yak-cow hybrid. I’ve seen Dzo used for this in English, and it’s the title of the Wikipedia page for this, which also mentions ‘yakow’ and the even funnier ‘yattle.’ Dzo is not a playable word in Webster, but it is playable in Collins! Nice chance to drop a Z!
I love your passion for the game and the style of these videos man--I just appreciate scrabble more than ever since first watching your channel. Shoutout Nigel Richards what a legend
Surely Nigel Richards isn't the only player who makes cool set-ups like this. Is there enough material for an episode on, say, David Eldar's best set-ups?
Your call to action at the end of the video is the first one that's ever worked on me. I like scrabble, but not enough to start memorizing the dictionary, nor do I even play in English! Nevertheless, I realized I always enjoy your videos and wasn't yet subscribed, so why not. Get that 50k!
I'm a bit shocked I haven't thought/heard of the Gecko setup play before (validating another word by setting up an extension).. how many more secrets can this game be hiding?? Brilliant.
i love your videos man!!! i have absolutely no scrabble knowledge and am pretty balls at words with friends, but the way you turn these games/plays into narratives themselves is so fun to watch while im eating scrambled eggs. keep up the work will :]
At around 1:30 in the first game covered, you mention that the "only realistic 7-letter bingo line" is going down overlapping the start of RETOOLED. Especially with an E still unknown to Nigel, is the D in RETOOLED not a realistic bingo line as well, or do the other letters remaining just not give enough combinations to play into that?
#suggestion, Would low-scoring wins be interesting? We’ve had videos about high-scoring wins, high-scoring moves, and low-scoring moves like this video but not low-scoring wins. Maybe that wouldn’t be an interesting enough topic.
Some of the set ups here are cute (and definitely brilliant), but are they actually a net good for the games? Does he end up scoring and managing the board in a way that is actually beneficial for him? I am far from questioning the goat. I would just like to hear a little secondary analysis on that if possible.
Small suggestion Will, could you put .5-1s of silence before the content starts? I watch with Bluetooth headphones and sometimes I miss a word or two as they wake up from being idle. I know it's pretty insignificant, but it would be a nice QOL change for the viewers. Love the vids as always ❤️❤️
Nope, nothing is there to >make Scrabble easier"; that's just nonsense. All Scrabble words come from regular English dictionaries that dictionary makers who have nothing to do with Scrabble have compiled: Webster's for the North American word list, Collins fpr most of the world. There is one exception I am aware of (which does not "make Scrabble easier"): at one point, as a stunt, the public was allowed to vote to have one word added to the Scrabble word list, and the chosen word was GEOCACHE, which was indeed added (along with a few related forms, GEOCACHES, GEOCACHED, GEOCACHING). Every single other word in the Scrabble list comes from a real English dictionary which itself has nothing to do with Scrabble, and the compilation of which Scrabble organizations have no control over.

Are you trying to get him kicked off the platform? (Because given my track record of playing naughty words on stream, I might be.)

@@DuncanEllis are you sure it was that word exactly? I remember a similar story but with ADEIKRS
Nigel is a freakin' Scrabble genius. That last setup in particular, with the GECKO fakeout, was beautiful.
it must be so deflating to play against someone who not only knows all the words, but who knows what words you're going to play, too.
👨🍳👌

I've seen a Q-bomb in Scrabble, but I ain't never seen an F-bomb be played.
The last one is just wild.

¿QUA pasa?
Will is the GOAT of scrabble content!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Will!
Surely Nigel Richards isn't the only player who makes cool set-ups like this. Is there enough material for an episode on, say, David Eldar's best set-ups?
Never would've thought Scrabble could have such impressive strategies, kinda like chess!
ex. 6 followed by Double-Letter, Triple-Word for +94 is a WILD swing

I give that last set up 100/100 gecks
it would have been SICK if their scores added up to 757
Loved the video again Will. Always love the Nigel content, especially big scores.
Keep them coming!!!

But the Geck play is also a sort of bluff, because Nigel is obviously trying to leave the impression that he has a an O on his rack himself
Excellent thumbnail work. Made me laugh out loud 😄
4:00 bauxite flashbacks
Cibation? In that spot? ...that's a Nigel move.
I hadn’t seen the GECK setup before but that’s super cool!
How are these videos so good. My favourite on yt right now
Congrats on almost breaking 50k. I'd love some super scrabble videos, if possible.
We appreciate you too Will!

scrabbled eggs
this came out while i was watching one of your other nigel videos :o

Especially with an E still unknown to Nigel, is the D in RETOOLED not a realistic bingo line as well, or do the other letters remaining just not give enough combinations to play into that?
That’s why he clarified “7-letter bingo line”. Playing a bingo through the D of RETOOLED would be an 8 letter bingo
Behold the field while Nigel sets up his gecks. Look o-pon it and see that it is barren.
what does the # mean when he puts scrabble words on the screen? for example at 0:52, why does he write “yakow#”
It means that it's only valid in certain dictionaries, not the US one but the global one
5:18 is there any record for the fewest letter put with the highest scores? This seems like one of them
That GECK is something else! So schnakey...
the man the myth the menace

Mack Meller did a short video about a tournament game whose final score was -6 to -16. That's right, negative 6 to negative 16.
I'm sorry but 50,000 subs isn't much.
That's about 5% of the number of words Nigel knows in his three languages...
not Nigel giving Marlon the ick 💀💀
Let's get to 50,000!

Oh yeah Baby!
I'm attracted to Nigel setups
How do you (Will) find these moves?
My show is on
Margret Thacha lol
Seems like you’ve stopped including the Thai players’ last names. Any reason for that?
I think for dropping the F bomb you should get at least one bonus point.
What the [B12] is that last setup?
Fugu is my favorite fish.
'Create a silly definition for YAKOW'
'Sure. Hold my beer'
The sound made by a yak when poked
4:16 Do you know what else is massive
"instead of the crazy long words he's best known for" I'm not so sure about that, actually.
If it's scrabble, Nigel is known for it.
Should Marlon play TSK lol
Nice

zo isn’t a word even if it’s in the fake dictionary you guys use to make scrabble easier.
Collins is the real dictionary, since it is used everywhere except for the usa, and the usa loves having its unique way of measuring everything.
