AK-74 was a major AK47 upgrade in response to the M16. Most importantly a smaller calibre from 7.62mm diameter to 5.45mm diameter. This allowed greater range, accuracy and lower recoil that made it much more effective at putting rounds on target. The new ammo also weighed 40% less so that 70% more ammo could be carried for the same weight. The 5.45mm ammo was also arguably deadlier per bullet thanks to a special collapsing bullet tip. A new recoil reducing muzzle device was also introduced.
5.45x39mm +Good Range +Wounds heavily, unarmored targets +Extremely fast +Very Light to carry 7.62x39mm +Punch through body armor like butter +Punches through most sturdy material +Lighter than most 7.62 rounds (shorter)
it was developed in 1974, uses the 5.45x39 instead of the 7.62x39 of the AK47, it has a longer barrel and a plastic magazine...the 74u is a shorter version of the 74
AKs-74U is normally given to tankers, it's hard to fit a full sized assault rifle in a tank with tank shells and people. AK 74 is given to regular infantry.
I was referring to how the 5.45mm ammo was an improvement over the M43 variant of 7.62x39mm ammo that was widely used by USSR. M67 was uneconomical for the USSR (M43 has cost saving of mild steel insert) compared to 5.45mm. M67 can only come close to 5.45mm performance with far more recoil and shorter range, etc.
Yeah!! AK-74 => I love this gun! It is my favourite gun! AK-74 => Ich liebe diese Waffe! Es ist mein beliebt Waffe! AK-74 => Miluji tuhle zbraň! Je to má oblíbená zbraň!
I own a romaninian wasr-10 and i love it. i've only fired a a m16a2 a few times when i was in marine corps boot camp so i cannot judge it. ak-47 is fun to shoot and gets the job done.
@08kecarv That's regular Russian ammunition I'm assuming. The greenish brass in the video is synonymous with the corrosive ammunition that is used by Russia (at least with surplus that is the case).
@UselessRobotToy And what about the empty space in the foreend of the 5.56x39? When hitting flesh, the 5.45 causes, lets just say a different kind of damage.
I see. well then I guess I've haven't seen any of the new batches. Because I mostly go to gun shows to buy ammo, because it is cheaper. I guess what they have, was from old stocks. Some even had russian military issue.
Why the commentator said that AK-74 is "roshiasei no saishin asaruto raifuru", meaning "latest(newest) Russian-made assault rifle"? AK-74 has been in service since 1978. What about AK-100 series? Or AEK line? Abakan? TsNIITochMash's 9×39 weapons? Tula's bullpup rifles?
@soviet937 It has better ballistics and I'd assume a little bit higher velocity than the 5.56. Despite the 5.56 being a larger round, the 5.45x39 tumbles just like a 5.56x45, but since the length of the round is longer than that of a 5.56x45, it tumbles more and therefore causing much more tissue damage on impact. Larger rounds will surely knock down someone (i.e. 7.62x39 M43 (Ak47)), but will just punch a straight hole through, rather than tear everything up simultaneously.
AMP-69: It is considered by american experts as the best AK-47 variant. The real edge of AMP-69 is the internal recoil suppression. I was intended for to deal with the increased recoil of high pressure grenade propellant ammo. The rifle grenades are between the uderbarrel launchers and RPS-s in terms of power.
yeah.. but as the testing shows.. the ballistics are pretty diffrent, the smaller AK round works because of diffrent reasons.. I prefer bigger rounds myself so I think that the 5.56x45mm NATO or the AK 7.62x39mm is more preferable personally
@WaRLocK2204 depends what you are penetrating and what type of bullet you use. When factoring in all the variable of real life 5.45 and 5.56 are virtually identical.
I still have a stock of wolf rounds left in 7.62x39mm. But I haven't heard anything wolf not having a lacquer coat anymore. Last time, I've seen the rounds for sale, they still look lacquer to me.
I did say "arguably deadlier" after going by the conclusion of respected expert in his field Col. Martin Fackler who concluded it was mostly down to the 5.45mm rounds' bullet design that made it deadlier than the 7.62mm round it replaced, though not as deadly as 5.56mm.
They replaced the beech laminated stocks with polyamide because unlike the wood, it never detioriated and doesnt stand out as much in terms of camouflage. The orange plastic magazines were given the same treatment as well.
it depends what your are looking for. the 5.45 is far more accurate and probably has a longer range on it, however lacks a lot of power. As far as ballistics, I know the 5.56 tumbles upon impact making massive flesh damage, so I would guess the 5.45 would as well. But the 7.62 will rip stuff up in a midrange gunfight all day long. A pretty nasty round. So really, its a toss up, you just have to guess what scenario you'd be in and find the round that best suits you.
@R4pidSh0t There is no 5.56 Ak-74, nor will there ever will be. The reason being is that NATO did not share ammunition sizes/styles with Warsaw Pact nations during the Cold War. However with today there is the Ak-101, which is basically the same rifle yet chambered in NATO 5.56x45mm. Civilian Ak-74 counterparts (some) are chambered in 5.56x45, but in militaristic classifications it is an Ak-101. The regular Ak-74 is and always will be chambered in the 5.45x39mm M74 cartridge.
Oh ok. Ive never seen the 5.45x39mm round so I was just going off of the numbers. According to the numbers, it looks to be not that much smaller than5.56x45mm. So I figured unless there was some special thing about it, the larger round would have the advantage. Ill look them up on google and compare how they look.
@SuperFinnish it's relatively cheap, extremely reliable, accurate, versatile. And is also sexy :P The only issue is the way too large magazine 3 STANAG (m16 like) clips are as large as 2 g36 clips But it can eventually be fixed with an adaptor.
It's been a while since I've ordered Wolf, is it a pale green, or really deep like it used to be? The last case I bought was barely coated. I buy mainly buy Barnaul ammo now. Brown & Golden Bear for fooling around, Silver Bear for hunting & home defense.
The 5.45x39 is going to tumble through you, and probably stay in you side ways or or come out you sideways. It has a hollow center in the tip, it was the russians way of getting around the geneva ban on hollow points used in warfare.
AKS-74U might've been designed for paratroopers and was used by paratroopers in it's early years of service but now Russian airborne use the AK 74 with a folding stock. The AKS-74U is now being used by tankers and pilots.
Nope, EFP has it right. The Avtomat Kalashnikov 1947, or AK47, was designed for general use as a battle rifle. Tank crews would have carried, depending on the year, something along the lines of a Stechkin APS pistol. Towards the 1970's, the Soviet military leadership realized that a rifle designed for 1947 would no longer work. So they invented a better bullet and built the AK74 around it. The AKs74u is simply a carbine version designed for, yes, tank crews and paratroopers.
how is that 5.45x39 round anyway, i know nothing about it expect its alot faster im sure with a higher velocity, is there any other ballistic differences between it and the 5.56mm?
well the 5.45x39mm is very diffrent from the M16's 5.56x45mm NATO round, absolutely it helps with the accuracy with the minimal recoil but its not by any means like the M16's round
@scoterlucyaredogs It's still backordered, I'm tempted to cancel the order and order a different rifle. I don't want a CAI though, they seem to work but I just have too much stigma against them. I picked the AK 74 because of the cheap ammo.
its the ak 74 u can see the muzzle brake ak 101 its different it shoots the 5.56x45 and u see when u start this damn clip u see the guy loading an 5.45x39
Has anyone else had problems with the comb of the pistol grip variant of the AK-47 hurting their cheekbone? I was used to non-pistol-grip guns, so I found this quite problematic.
@LtSnoWolf If you want to compare both its apple's and oranges, the AK74 wounds better because an air pocket in the 7n6 bullet tip makes it tumble (That's "yaw" to the anal gun-snob) The AK47's standard ball is GREAT at busting brick walls and barriers but the wounds are easier to treat, reliability is same, ak74 is more accurate but the ak47 delivers more K.E at long range. Generally I would prefer an AK74, but if I have a PBS suppressor or my is enemy using cover- AK47.
It's a 74. look at the size of the slug compared to his fingers at 0:41. Plus the 47 doesn't have that kind of compensator on the end. I belive The 47's compensator looks more like a little spoon under the muzzle. correct me if I'm wrong.
ive been watching this guy's videos for like an hour. they're awesome, but by any chance, considering the dynamic camera angles/ camera movement and the soothing music, are they supposed to be somewhat arousing? i mean ive heard the phrase 'gun porn' but never heard of anyone actually getting of to this kind of thing......just curious...
The Japanese can make anything soothing. I really dig these videos. I want to put them on loop and lull me to sleep to dream of pew.
And the weapon is Russian.
Bring human to eternal sleep😇😇
The early wood stocked AK-74 is my ultimate dream gun, and I've already started putting it together piece by piece.
AK-74 was a major AK47 upgrade in response to the M16.

5.45x39mm

+Very Light to carry

+Punch through body armor like butter
+Punches through most sturdy material
+Lighter than most 7.62 rounds (shorter)

AMP-69 is hungarian, and I'm proud of that. It is the best cold-war 7.62mm AK. Each AMP was fitted with optics way before the G-36.
インサージェンシー・サンドストームでいつもお世話になってます。
ちなみに74Nですけどね、インサージェンシー・サンドストームのは
AKs-74U is normally given to tankers, it's hard to fit a full sized assault rifle in a tank with tank shells and people. AK 74 is given to regular infantry.
0:51 god i love that sound
The Clicks & Clanks are the best part about guns!
Yeah I noticed that too. I've been seeing more and more anime with a HUGE emphasis on gun details. Not to mention airsoft is big there.lol
An AK-74 with plastic furniture? Interesting, maybe is a model of the 80's, but a little earlier than the AK-74M... Russian Design? Hell, yeah!
Ordered my AK 74 yesterday and it should be here next week for some fun!
@gone454 they were made in kinda conjunction. a squad would be armed with teh AMD 65s, and then theyd have one guy with an AMD 69 for fire support.
I was referring to how the 5.45mm ammo was an improvement over the M43 variant of 7.62x39mm ammo that was widely used by USSR.

AK74最高
I wish I had the soundtrack to this series.
Yo tambien!!!!
It's like music from a love story or something. I know I'm in love with the AK47 and that AMP-69 has got me all tearful.
@csmybuttt
In movies, the Type 56 is definitely the most common AK variant, but otherwise... The AKM is the most widely produced variant.
@FRURMELLL That's the cleaning kit not put in place and sticking out a bit.
@R4pidSh0t They do, the AK-101. It is the Export Version of the AK!
Its a brute, its ugly, but it won't let you down. gotta love these AKs.
@UselessRobotToy And what about the empty space in the foreend of the 5.56x39? When hitting flesh, the 5.45 causes, lets just say a different kind of damage.

Cuz this was made in 1980?
VladiSSius This is movie 1993: )
lol I thought this year 2006 transfer ...
Such a sexy rifle the Ak-74 is. I can't wait to own one.

No i can see why you thought so, but his second hand is on the base of the magazine

LOL, I love the tranquil music before the sound of the 74 firing!
they may not be the best looking guns but they are definately the best ARs
they do, AK-100 series has a 5.56 version
They replaced the beech laminated stocks with polyamide because unlike the wood, it never detioriated and doesnt stand out as much in terms of camouflage.

A lot of people use that gun yes, mainly because it's reliable, easy to use, and cheap.
AKも美しいなぁ!東側代表!
クリンコフ個人的に好き!
The last batch I bought, the casings were the same color as my stripper clips. If they were coated, it certainly wasn't very thick.
You have to admit that AK 74s with synthetic stocks look damn sexy
@appleloverr I take it that comment was to be directed at Nighthawk391... not me

ナイス‼
nice rifles and nice music!
@MrFudoken dont forget Ak-105.106 is use same caliber
I had no knowlegde over that AMP-69! Nice vid.
The AKM models we're actually off balanced due to the lost of the wooden stock in favor of the more light and less ''big'' metal ones
It's been a while since I've ordered Wolf, is it a pale green, or really deep like it used to be? The last case I bought was barely coated. I buy mainly buy Barnaul ammo now. Brown & Golden Bear for fooling around, Silver Bear for hunting & home defense.
@SuperFinnish because theG36C fit in everything CQB combat and assault
The 5.45x39 is going to tumble through you, and probably stay in you side ways or or come out you sideways. It has a hollow center in the tip, it was the russians way of getting around the geneva ban on hollow points used in warfare.

There are five types of AMP-69 rifle grenade:
anti-tank shaped charge(self popelled)
anti-tank shaped charge
anti-infantry shrapnel(self propelled)
anti-infantry shrapnel
smoke granade
@SuperFinnish And its expensive compared to the AK-74
2:02 do you know what that is on the front of the AMP-69? Sorry, If I'm a bother, just interested in knowing
They told you wrong stuff. Ak47 is a pretty light weapon. (ok, AKM and further models with stamped receiver)
2:00 Meet Mimi-chan, the barrel mounted ICBM. XD
5.45x39 it's cheap, and fun to shoot. 7.62x39 is more fun to shoot but I like to be able to hit a target out to 500m
how is that 5.45x39 round anyway, i know nothing about it expect its alot faster im sure with a higher velocity, is there any other ballistic differences between it and the 5.56mm?
Yes it is. It was going to be replaced by the AN-98 but that plan was scrapped.
AK-74 also uses a round almost exactly like the M16's, doesnt it? That would also help with the accuracy since that round is concidered very accurate.
well the 5.45x39mm is very diffrent from the M16's 5.56x45mm NATO round, absolutely it helps with the accuracy with the minimal recoil but its not by any means like the M16's round
what is the difference between ak 47 and ak74? besides the black plastic stocks
@esh325 The Russians did many years ago when the AK74 series was introduced... obviously not now though.
Do you have this music? What's that music?
@scoterlucyaredogs It's still backordered, I'm tempted to cancel the order and order a different rifle. I don't want a CAI though, they seem to work but I just have too much stigma against them. I picked the AK 74 because of the cheap ammo.
I love these videos!
Where do you find them?
its the ak 74 u can see the muzzle brake ak 101 its different it shoots the 5.56x45 and u see when u start this damn clip u see the guy loading an 5.45x39
I've never been a fan of Warsaw Pact firearms but this guy makes them look sexy.
アサルトライフルを作成したもの AK-74 ミハイル・カラシニコフでした (Михаил Калашников)
@dvsxavier you should look up Russia's AN - 94 it is one there advanced weapons
@VALVEGAMER20 Iron sights are okay, just need time to get used to them.
Has anyone else had problems with the comb of the pistol grip variant of the AK-47 hurting their cheekbone? I was used to non-pistol-grip guns, so I found this quite problematic.
As long as the round is accurate and drops my target, ill be happy. Im sure there is a best round for each perticular situation though.
@UselessRobotToy Sorry, you´re right. I meant the 5,45x39, not the 5.56.
This one My Fevorit Gun I like Ak74 I am from waziristan
@LtSnoWolf

gaastra12 i think you mean 5.56mm and TheStench1991 was right it fires the 5.45mm
@MajKong101 The dead ones, the loony ones, the overly-patriotic ones, or the good ones?
ゔ~ン、以前これ観てマルイの次世代AKM入手しちゃいましたね。(>ω
No, its chamberied in 5.45x39
0:50 yeah love that sound
JESUS CHRISt i thought the amp was a machine gun rpg-7 when i first saw it. i was like wdf!
it doesnt matter what the actual size is. bullet diameter isnt perfect. its measured in tolerance. 5.45 is this peticular guns tolerance
I LIKE SO MUCH THE FN'S SCAR-H, 7,62X51 MM. MOST POWERFUL AND RELIABLE.
Caliber and accuracy.
I'd prefer the 7.92x57 mauser.
But i can't get a hold of a K-43.
Hey thanks man, best answer voted!
