Great video. Aside from the great idea and implementation, your video was to the point, no unnecessary time-wasting chatter, no obnoxious background music, and in summary, well put together. Wished all DYI videos were as well planned and put together as this one.
Great video. I’m planning something similar for underneath my 5th wheel RV. Mine will have two rails and suspended below will be a closable tub of gray and black tank accessories. I think mine would work better if I suspend the trolleys from above instead of up from the sliding piece. Thank you for this, it helped refine my idea.
Can you just drop a bolt, or similar down from the large unistrut as a slide lock? Can pull it out when you need to extend the small unistrut and even drop it back through when it’s extended to lock it open🤷🏻♂️. Dig your invention and great video!
I have no practical use for something like this, but the inventiveness of it is so cool. You should create a latch system to lock it in place. The capture at the front of the stationary piece, and the bolt at the end of the sliding piece. Really neat build!
Good lookin pooch. Nice trolley rig. I didn't know the trolley component was available. Have you considered flipping the end eye bolt 180 degrees into the upright position instead of down? This would keep the bungee away from the hangers. Thanks for the video. Gonna check out the whole series.
Keep the videos coming as you make storage in the new truck. Trying to get my short-bed 1/2 ton personal truck set up for side work before the summer comes back around.
My buddy recently made a barn door with those trolleys and a piece of unistrut. I would say the sky's the limit with them! I will definitely be following your lead with this one!
Holy crap this guy spent more on his sliding shelves than I did on my entire E250 cargo van with shelving and ladder rack! I dont get it how is this better.
Because i need 4wd, and its my take home so i need functionality. Taking the kids out, etc. If i need a van i will use the 3 other vans i have for my employees 🤣
I work in north chicago never needed 4 wheel drive. But I get it you wanted it so you worked hard and got it! Thats what its all about. I run a 2006 e250 with no windows and hockey pucks to keep my tools safe and I drive a 2005 prius to move the kidos around and take the easy service calls. Never thought Id say this but I love the prius and its very cabable regardless of what others say. I get 45mpg average and its stupid reliable. Wish they could figure this out in a cargo van and add 4 doors and seating for the kids. Dont they realize how many guys have a family doing side work but really dont want two vehicles!

@@theloweshow3047 hey I understand that. About to invest in a truck cap since vans are so expensive at the moment. So I'm looking at ideas for layouts. Everything you've posted looks very nice and clean so was curious about the refrigerant, nitrogen and torch layout.
@@bcarter1430 sadly, my truck is strictly residential service, so i dont have a nitro tank or a torch setup, however you could easily put it up in the front of the bedslide. if i need nitro or torch i will just go get another van. so far in two years of use i havent needed that, and very seldom do we as service techs in our small town.
Loved the ingenuity in this build. Very clever work around. Few questions. 1. Would it be possible To skip the 90deg connection at the top and bolt directly the larger channel onto the two bolts with an appropriate washer. 2. Use some lithium grease to smoothen out that rollers. 3. Please keep making more of these. 😊
I'm trying to make this without buy trollies, lol. I have the strut. I already made a pipe rack that folds up and down. All I need to do is loosen a bolt, raise it up, then tighten the bolt. It's pretty awesome actually.
@@theloweshow3047 Yes there is. I had no idea until I started doing commercial electrical work. I have all kinds of ideas. But I also don't want a ton of extra weight.
I dont mean to be off topic but does someone know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my login password. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
@Elliot Clark Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Should put supports at the rear for when your driving to and from. They make supports that go on the outside of strut that hook under but still let the bottom strut move freely. And poly wheel trolly would have worked for that weight and would be a lot quieter if anyone is doing the same
I know this is an old video, but what about adding a long piece of sheet metal bent into a "L" shaped profile to the sliding rail, so it would come down between the back of the side toolbox and the stuff hanging on the rail, where the bottom of the "L" profile would be under the stuff hanging, giving the hanging stuff a backwall and a floor. Then the longer stuff can hang but also sit on the floor of the "L" profile. You could then add dividers and maybe put a lip on the bottom of the "L" profile to have small parts bins or other stuff to lay there, maybe lengths of hoses or pipes, long tools, etc.
If you’re only reason for using the bungee is so it didn’t slide back & hit the rear window, it seems like it would have been easier & made more sense to just put some kind of lock or blockage to prevent it from coming back by itself. Although I just noticed this video is 4 years old. 😂 are you still using this system? If so, what changes have you made?
Nate, that is an excellent idea and execution. As a HVAC guy I would imagine you are aware that Unistrut makes spring lock channel nuts. Not sure if or how your build would have benefited from that. Best regards and thanks for sharing.
Could a monster magnet at the cab side of the truck hold the trolley in ? As in replacing the bungee. You could even have a magnet at extension to hold it while you are grabbing toold
More than one way to skin a cat, but in sure that would have worked just fine as well. I'm not that tall and prefer to use that as a handle to pull on.
Does the headboard of the sliding deck hit the items that are hanging? So to pull out the sliding deck, you HAVE to pull out the new trolley system? I couldn't tell if the sliding deck has a headboard. I love the use of the unistrut. Great video!
Yes it does. So i am probably going to cut the head of the bedslide off. Its there so stuff wont rollback behind it, however i wont ever carry anything therr that can rool behind. It wasnt a necessary modification, but it is nice to have for cords and such. Thanks for watching!
I like the idea, but I'm NOT in favor of the location. I'm not trying to nix your idea, but just wanted to point out something that (might not have/may yet enter your mind). I know the probability of this is very very low, but what happens if you get rear ended by a cab over? Are those strut channels mounts strong enough to prevent these from being launched into the cab. Perhaps cutting these a little shorter so they're not as close to the back window would be safer? Like I said I like the idea, just would hate to see someone get hurt. Vlad
What is the purpose of having the trolley "spring loaded"? It seems awkward having to hold it back while loading and unloading the gear. Having a retainer to hold it from moving back while driving would seem to be all you need.
You make a very valid point. I may eventually go that route with some kind of lock. I just thought this was a cool accessory. If i ever do change it to a manual lock and free sliding system ill let you take al the credit haha!
I was thinking the same thing about locking it in place. I guessing you were worried about it sliding back when you accelerate and move back like you mentioned in the video. How about a spring loaded pin to hit the unistrut holes? Maybe something that you turn to lock and the spring would allow it to catch? Just a thought
@@stormgutter for sure that would be a great idea. As for now i have been enjoying the sprong loaded. As i dont have to force it back and it holds itself. But in the future i may add that
