Thanks a lot for this stream BMD! I was so happy to finally be able to catch you streaming which is somewhat tricky due to timezone difference between USA and Russia, but I've had much fun! Couldn't nearly express all the gratitude I have towards you with those streamlabs messages (used my nickname Absorber for them so as to not make you try pronouncing my name :D), but I just want to use this comment section to once again say that with the videos you make, you provided me with hours of fun time during very shitty periods of my life, helping me break through depression. You are a great content creator and I respect you very much. Your comeback to youtube was the best thing that could happen on this platform. Yes! You’re finally playing DOOM 64! I just beat this one and it’s incredibly fun! The only thing I didn’t like was the final boss without the three secret collectibles.
It's why I will be hunting these collectibles down like mad.

Great stream BMD! Couldn't catch it live but just finished watching the replay. Quite impressive seeing you thoroughly beat Hectic and Outpost Omega. Nice job sir. Chat was very helpful w/secrets, but if you're interested there are Doom 64 level maps on the classicdoom site with highlighted locations of all secret areas. In any case, looking forward to seeing you rip and tear through the rest of the game. Doom on, marine. :)

Unlike most classic Doom games, "Secrets" in Doom 64 can be either secret-flagged spaces or objects. Secret objects must be picked up in order get credit for discovering them. Also, as with other Doom games, some maps have well-hidden objects or areas that are not counted as secret by the game.

Levels 25 through 27 aren't part of the regular campaign, and can only be accessed via Features menu (cheat menu) or passwords.
Some levels start with a fixed number of secrets, but additional ones may be added during play. For example level 29 starts with 6 but a 7th can be added; level 30 starts with 2 but 2 more can be added.
Well done! I always thought that the soul sphere/supercharge in Hectic was impossible to get.

Yeah, Doom 64 has scripts that can execute on item pickup, or in the case of Staging Area to Hectic, scripts that execute on item pickup/destruction (or sometimes monster death). I believe they're called Macros in Doom 64, but Hexen also had scripting abilities, and when Hexen support was added to ZDoom, Action Code Script was also implemented, and greatly expanded upon, so now (G)ZDoom modders can probably do everything that Doom 64 could do natively, and more. In this case, with the Hectic megaarmor, the camera panning out to show your character is part of the code, as is, obviously, the explosion.
I was searching the Doom wiki to find out how to get the mega armor, but the Wiki claimed that it's 100% impossible to get it.

Just on a different topic BMD, is there any chance of a playthrough at some stage of the Bloom total conversion for Doom 2? It's only 4 maps as things stand, but it's a good mod, and I think it would be an interesting and popular one for you to cover
Fun fact: you can grab the soul sphere in hectic, and, while the crushers are active, you can get the red and blue keys without anything triggering! So, no barons or spiderdemons! That’s how I beat the map myself.

I'm pretty sure the Doom 64 "chainsaw" is less of a chainsaw and more of a reciprocating saw.
I'm playing through Doom 64 with the Retribution port! It seems not absolutely 100% faithful but I'm hoping differences are largely cosmetic (SSG has animation for instance, GZDoom might render visuals a tad differently, etc.). Not going to get ahead of you. Using a setting to help make things quite brutal...go look...and see if you can find out what setting :D
Honestly, I feel Retribution to be the best option if you don't want to have to deal with any of Bethesda's nonsense. It's not absolutely faithful to the N64 original, but any differences are largely cosmetic

BMD is the wattles of doom
You can get the mega armor in map32 hectic. You must first get the soulsphere setting off that trap. While the soulsphere trap is working, all other traps will not work. The game is coded for one trap to work at a time. You can also get the red and blue keys without the the enemies spawning in as well. However you don't get the kill count when you exit the level.

It's fine people said to look for the keys, but the spoilers could have been avoided as to what they do. Geez. Half the fun was discovering that for myself back in the day!
In case you want to use classic/Metal soundtrack for the DOOM 64 levels instead of the original In your playthrough like I'm doing. Try out these for these levels we seen so far-

also Big Mac Davis I'm so proud of you and everything that you've done and yes the Fire and Ice map can really go to you-know-where and I will be by your side always and if you want some advice on how to defeat the final boss of DOOM Eternal then just tell me also I won't tell you who the final boss is you is going to have to find that one out for yourself and not only that but you also are the riskiest demon horde slayer which means that you ARE the DOOM Slayer (in video game terms you are but only when it comes to DOOM though) if we could play with each other Big Mac Davis I will be at your aid and if you ever need anymore help then I am with you until the end of time or until one of us falls and If I can happily aid you then I will be happy to happily die for you (in DOOM that is) and I'll die happily knowing that I gave myself up just to save you (again this also refers to the DOOM saga) and I will let you know that your secret demon slaying techniques are safe with me so it's alright also you are one of my most favourite youtubers and you have my full support and if anyone starts hating in the comment then let me know immediately and if there's any doubt about you being able to kill the final boss of DOOM 64 then at least my opinion about you being able to defeat the final boss of DOOM 64 still counts and no one and I mean no one even thinks about trying to take away your content by copying it also keep up your videos Big Mac Davis I believe in you every step of the way
I've always thought it was crazy that they let stuff like this on the N64. Nintendo consoles typically only have kid-friendly games on them. Not saying it shouldn't be, I'm just saying it's weird that the same little kids playing Mario 64 have the potential to be playing Doom whenever they want.
I guess as long as Nintendo makes some money they probably don't care much.
The N64 did have a surprisingly high number of "mature" games for what was considered a kids console. There were ports of Resident Evil, Carmageddon, Duke Nukem, to name a few, although some were slightly censored

what are the differences between these doom64 versions:
- Doom64 STEAM version.
- Doom64 EX
- Doom64 Retribution
- Doom64 on nintendo 64 EMULATOR
and what are pros and cons.. ?
Steam is the one from Doom Eternal bundle as far as I know, but I'm not sure about this one
If it is the version I think of, then it's been Bethesda'ised and requires internet connection all the time. Again - not sure if it is this one.
EX - this is the most faithful remake of the original, almost 1:1, but has some bugs, like it doubled secret count for me every time I loaded a save
Retribution - the most plug and play, as it's just running on your existing Doom 2 source port, like GZDoom. I mostly recommend that one for its ease of use. Cons for some people may be its few changes from the original, like in Hatred map you can't glitch and grab soulsphere, when you could in original
And emulator play - I didn't try any, but I guess it will be like EX but better, although I don't think it's worth the hassle if you aren't a super-purist
Overall:
I'd avoid steam one as it could be the Bethesda'ised one
I'd avoid emulators cause they require too much hassle
And I'd recommend either EX or Retribution, both are easy to run (but Retribution even easier to run)
Decision between EX and Retribution:
If you have an OCD like me, then Retribution - I couldn't stand the doubling secret count making it not possible to get 100% unless you play no-save
If you are a super-purist, then EX, as you'll not like some tweaks in Retribution
Edit: Steam version is not out of question, I mean, I can't tell if it's good or not, I'm just speculating about what it is

Steam version is the one that BMD played during this stream. It is an official port of the original N64 version with a new episode called The Lost Levels. You won't find that episode in any other version of the game, including the original N64 version. You don't need to buy Doom Eternal to get it. It was a pre-order bonus for that game, but you can also get it separately for 4,99. I'm not sure if you have to be online all the time to play it. I mean you need an internet connection in order to log into Steam in the first place, so I guess it doesn't really matter that much.
EX is a fan made port that uses data from the cartridge. You have to get a rom of the cartridge and then extract the data from it via the EX port. It's a very accurate port with few bugs preventing you to get 100% Kills and Secrets in some maps. This version is no longer supported, since the creator is now a member of the team that made the recent port for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch.
Retribution is another fan made port that works as a PWAD for Doom II, requiring GZDoom to run. Besides the original game it also contains three new fan made episodes - Absolution Levels, Outcast Levels and Redemption Denied.
Emulated version should be the exact same as playing the game on the actual N64. You just have to setup the emulator to make it work right. I don't really have any experience with that, so I can't really say how well it works.
EX has some extra bells and whistles not available in the Steam version, but as others have pointed out there are some bugs and a few slight deviations from the N64 game. N64 emulation can be a little sketchy in general; it may not always perfectly duplicate the behavior of the Doom 64 cart-console combo. So far the Steam version has been very faithful to the N64 original, and with much better video quality.
