Thanks for sharing. I'm coming up on the same situation in near future. Really like how you used the hydraulic jack to bow in the last couple planks. Helpful. Thanks for speeding through the obvious and mundane. "Everything we need, nothing we don't." Nicely done.
This is why I like to watch you ladies do videos ... You work smarter not harder! My daughter and I did this exact project as you did, and it only took us 2hrs. 45 mins and she never broke a nail. However, I did get a few splinters lol. Great video
one of the most breve quick videos I didn't get bored and watched all, thanks i may do this in the future and just looking for ideas out there Best video ever
Thank you for this great video. I have watched several, but I think this is the best one I've seen. I'm doing the same things to my trailer. Another option on the paint is to buy implement paint. You can find implement paint at a hardware store or farm store. Sometimes it's called "Farm and Implement" or "Tractor and Implement" paint. It's what farmers use to paint their equipment. The paint is made to adhere to metal that has some rusty places. Wire brush the rusty places, like you said, then add the implement paint. Implement paint can be either spray paint or paint you brush on. It also helps to paint the boards on the floor and sides of the trailer, too. Black is a good color for the floor. If a person paints the boards, the boards will last longer before needing to be replaced again. Another alternative to painting would be to apply deck sealer. I suggest painting or sealing the boards every year in the fall. Thanks again for your helpful video. :)
Did you have to shave any wood off the end of your new 10 foot boards? I’ve got an 8 foot trailer and can’t get a good bend without fear of snapping the new boards.
Beautiful Mature woman at work thank you for teaching how you rebuild your wooden deck thank you I am building a flat trailer from a mobile home👍 16 feet
Great job 👍!!! I can't believe that this hard working lady basically restored a trailer by himself 💪!! Women in my family do a ton of talking but no walking or working! Again Great Job!! Can you come do my trailer 😅
The boards on my trailer are fastened to the cross angles with nails. The nails must have been installed with a gun of some kind. They appear to be almost welded to the metal angle iron. Still wondering how I am going to get them out. Any ideas????
Even though this video is about a year old I wanted to add that you should have used something to coat your deck boards. Olympic Elite is a good choice but the deck will last twice as long if you coat the boards on all 6 sides.
We used pressure treated pine which will last longer outdoors without having to put a finish on it. You can't put a finish on pressure treated wood until it dries, which can be 2-4 months depending on your weather and how much sun it gets. A finish will definitely help untreated boards for sure. Thanks for the comment.
Yes, I let the wood dry a little more and then used self tapping wood to metal screws, fave.co/3POz8RL. You will need an impact driver to get through the metal, and I also predrilled with a smaller size bit since the metal was so thick.
Maybe a dumb question but I see that you used 8 boards. What size are those and did you have to rip any of them? I’m trying to figure out what boards fit 72 inches lol. Thank you for your last response.
@@jenaslocum7332 hi Jena. What if there are already pre drilled holes from the old screws? Did you line them up or drill new holes? If so how did you line them up perfectly? Ty!
Yes, we did screw them down with self drilling wood to metal screws. I waited a few weeks for the pressure treated boards to shrink before screwing them down.
Hi Rick, it's not shown on the video but yes we did screw down the boards about three months later. The wood shrunk after drying. We used self tapping wood to metal screws 2.5 inches long. About 10 per board. Even though it says self tapping, I ended up predrilling the metal with cobalt drill bits to make it easier. Hope that answers your comment/question.
The jack-bend trick was worth the price of admission alone! Nice video. Thanks!
Well done video. Speeding up the mundane while you continued to give a very sound narrative with the necessary detail was just right!

Great idea. I have seen a few different ways to bent the boards but yours is the best.
Thanks ladies, the hydro jack is what I needed to know.
Thank you for producing this video. It was very helpful to me.

Best board replacement video on you tube thank you
I like the jack procedure-watched another vid that did it and it looked dangerous but this hydraulic jack works good

Hi, thanks for the comment and the information about the implement paint. I'll check it out.
Four hours, including getting the materials? That’s funny! It would take me 2 days. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
Great feed! Especially the hydraulic mechanism. Thanks in abundance.
This may be an old video but it's perfect for what I need to do thank you so much🙌🙌🙌
Excellent video, thanks I need to change my trailer decking and the jack was really smart to install the last 2 boards. Thank you ❤
Great job! I will use your method to replace my old trailer deck.
Not sure if it's been said, but for my last board, I bought a fresh decking board, one that was still wet, and it made it easier to bend.
Always wondered how the final boards were placed. Great video...time lapse is my kinda watchin'.
Great vid, Everyone else suggests cutting and welding, which I can easily do , I would rather not though. Thank you!
Building a flatbed and I’m for sure using your techniques. Thanks for this info

No, our ten for boards fit perfectly under both angle irons. We also used really wet PT boards so they bent quite a bit when jacked up. Good luck!!
After you take it down to the frame Por15 is the best to seal your frame. It's like iron when it dries. Wear gloves to put it on.
That's pretty nice. Glad you did that

Oh wow it came out super nice
This is what I’m doing today-thanks
Good luck!
GREAT EXPLANATION 👍🏻 Looks great
High wondering what size screw you used for the side

Glad you enjoyed it!

I love this. Thanks!
After you site brush, wipe with Klein Strip Concrete And Metal Prep.the paint will stick much better
Awesome Video!

Great 👍 video
Do you have a video o how to add the screws
You made it look ez!
Nice job
Awesome video. Thanks.
Thank you soo much!!
Good job!
Is better to live 1/2 to 1/4 inch space for drain and to expand wood
Nope. Put them in tight and they are going to shrink as they dry leaving a slight gap.
@@edwardkawecki8101
Exactly. If you gap them, you’ll end up with BIG gaps. Wedge them in their tightly.
I didn't catch what size boards y'all used?
What size trailer were you working on?
How many boards did you use and what size boards I have a 5x8 utility trailer
We got 8 1X8 and the trailer is a 5 X 10. So 8 1X8 boards should work for you as well.
@@Backyardscape ok thanks and great video
@@Backyardscape So, you use 1x8's not 2x8's??
C. Juneau no, must be a typo, those are definitely 2x8s in the video.
Awesome 👌
Thanks
Thanks!!
Thx
Cool! Thanks
Hello, do you have to screw down the new boards ??? Or could you just leave it like that??
Hey there, thanks for the comment. The boards certainly aren't going anywhere, but they could warp without screwing them down.
@@jenaslocum7332 thanks, great video
how thick were those boards... ????
The deck boards are 1.5 inches thick.
Did you put more bolts or screws in the floor ?

@@judemock2699 we used 2x8s, actual width is 7.25 inches. We didn't have to rip them. They fit perfectly for our 60 inch wide trailer.

NOT one screw to hold the boards/attach the boards to the actual trailer frame? hmmmmm That concerns me?

Good, but wood needs to be sealed eventually.
If you carefully remove lumber. It will sell for good money on Craigslist or marketplace. People like weathered lumber!
