the slower songs on desire like you said are definitely needed rests since the first couple of songs are pop banger after banger. the only song i don’t LOVE is butterfly net because to me it doesn’t sound like a lot of the rest of the album. rest of the album is 11/10 though. i think crash for me was just super outdone by motomami since they were released the same day. i listened to motomami right before crash and was so bored especially coming off the insanity that is motomami. i love charlis meta commentary on crash though and making the main pop girl album intentionally which is genius.
Crash is a good 80s synth pop album but it honestly wouldve been cool if she combined hyper pop and 80s… feel like it wouldve been like lightning but more experimental and glitchy… she fr wouldve invented a new sub ganre of hyper pop
For me, Solar Power had some songs that felt super half-baked and perhaps (i hate to say it) sort of boring to listen to, filler in a sense. Dominoes, Leader, Man w the Axe are sometimes skips for me in all honesty. Melodrama on the other hand, no skips. Even the songs that aren't my usual type grew on me enough to where i always listen through - like Homemade DYnamite
Those songs from Solar Power were brutal, bc Lorde is absolutely talented at sharing the exploits of a teenager/young adult in a way that manages to make even the mundane feel as soul crushingly major as it would to someone at that age experiencing those giant emotions. (Not to get too personal but we're nearly contemporary in age and my problems got... very gargantuan, real, mature and ugly by the time Melodrama dropped so it was honestly nice to remember to care about normal things again.) Hearing Dominoes I'm reminded how much this is only about an annoying acquaintance
I didnt understand why people hated jim parks verse until I heard a version without him and the song is smooth but also tommy cash verse on delicious is worse 💀
Sorry but some of these takes are trash, as much ad I love loud upbeat albums, to say plastic off the sofa should be off the album is wild, even the most upbeat loudest albums need there slow tame moments Oh and welcome to new york isnt the strongest opener or best taylor song but honestly shed have to write a new album opener because the tracklist is almost too perfect to be moved around (I say almost because “this love” shouldve came after “wildest dreams”)

I did not know that crash and motomami came out on the same day! That makes complete sense why it didn’t hit the same
