Chapeau Jom. Glad you hit some local roads while shooting the Parlee and Firefly shop videos. As a veteran of several D2R2s, this video does a great job of capturing the epic climbs and bucolic scenery, just wish you had some of the incredible fall weather we've had the past several weeks the day you rode. That 11% descent is a white-knuckler on mixed terrain tires and is burned in my memory. Green River Road is my favorite respite on the ride with some fast, glass-smooth dirt riding alongside a beautiful river. Looks like you had the perfect setup for the ride, and the Officina Battaglin is one gorgeous steel bike. Cheers.
Thank you! LOVED this ride, it brought back many memories of my 2015 experience riding the 180km route. At that time, I was a wee bit fitter, and rode Vermont Overland Grand Prix the very next day. My legs were not exactly pleased, haha. I really hope to return for D2R2 in 2025.
What fun to see familiar roads and places on your TH-cam channel! There is no end of great dirt road riding in Franklin County. Although you should have added Pennel Hill to your ride - 19% grade - scary in either direction! The Tufo Thunderos are great tires too, and I have found them to be the best all-arounders for riding in that area (although you need something chunkier in mud season). Thanks for the video!
Thank you Peter, I will seek Pennel Hill Road out next visit! Depending on tree cover, I need to bust out my drone to capture the groveling up that grade from above :)
Unfortunate your ride didn't include either of the covered bridges on that stretch of the Green River (hardly, considering no rain this year). Lived on the course for 11 years, greatest riding ever!
What a cool ride... not far from my area (NH). We did have spectacular foliage this year - a bit of a shame you weren't there just a couple of weeks later to do your ride in it. I do love that bike, (although I'm with you... I prefer the versatility of range in a 2x) and that blingy stem is really something!!
Wow that was a great ride ! wish i'd seen some route signs. I need a gravel map. I m in NH so close enough to go explore. Great ride and yes a 2x would be prime for that.
Thanks! D2R2 website has all of their routes posted, I did a slight modification to cut down the 100k to about 80ish km / 50 miles. Definitely bring your climbing gears.
You rode this while my wife and I were riding East Haddam a day before we were there. That river trail is a mile from my wifes grandparents house. Beautiful country. Apex orchard has some wicked apples. We brought the rain from Florida btw, they hadn't had any.
I ride gravel in this area all the time and have done most of the D2R2 180k route, just never all at once. Until this year. I really underestimated how difficult 15,000+ feet of climbing - a lot of which was near or over 20% would be. It was my best day out on a bike all year. Can't wait for 2025.
Well done, I hope to join you in 2025 for the 180K! Riding the 180K route in 2015 leveled me, followed the next day riding the Vermont Overland Grand Prix. Let's just say my legs didn't appreciate the second effort :)
Love it. I passed through last summer on my way to VT... without a bike. Criminal. Hope you got to stop at Treehouse Brewing in Deerfield... their beer is sublime, and their pizza is really good. Cheers.
100%, absolutely amazing roads, and virtually no traffic. Hope to ride the 20th anniversary edition. This ride is far better than all of the events claiming to be "premier".
@@GravelCyclist @NewEnglandDirtRoadie 💯 If anyone wants to understand the inspiration behind Frost's and Rockwell's work while doing it on a gravel bike, D2R2 would be the way lol...
When you get around to doing the final review on the Pave bike, do you have a scale you can measure the weight with? Absolutely dying to know some details, weight included. My final dream bike list is down to the Pave, the steel Mason Exposure, or the titanium Prova Mostra you showed a while back from the trade show. Am a fan of good ol' metal bikes. Lifelong titanium rider, but maybe looking to expand my stable to steel.
Hello Alex, I will definitely mention the weight during the review. I have yet to weigh the complete bike. Also, I have a factory tour at Battaglin HQ on my Channel.
If I was around, I would be interested. This ride happened third week of September, had to cut the trip short due to Hurricane $hithead heading towards my part of Florida... thankfully, dodged another bullet.
No scientific data to back anything up, feel / speed seems to on par with the Gravelking SK. I am really loving the Thundero's, I need to get a new set to record a proper review. Sadly, I had no time to chuck them onto a scale, etc. The Battaglin arrived with them installed, I was riding it the very next day.
Nice combination. I go lower with 30/40 or 31/40, depending on the GRX 2x chainrings I have installed. I recorded a video demonstrating 11 speed GRX Di2 works perfectly with an 11-40 cassette. Love the low gears :)
@@GravelCyclist I have GRX 2x ... 30/46 up front and 34 in rear. I'd like to go larger in rear too.. so 40 is OK ?? probably have to add some more links ? even 36 might help but 40 i'd love on certain climbs that have some short steep sections.
@g.fortin3228 Here you go, shifting an 11-40 with 48/31, 46/30 will be even better. Last time I ran this configuration, I used a complete out of the box 11 speed chain, 116 links I think, and a b-screw adjustment. th-cam.com/video/wNeYYM9_aeM/w-d-xo.html

@@GravelCyclist Hope to see you in '25! VOGP veteran as well, but not back-to-back with D2R2, my legs hurt just thinking about that lol.
D2R2 is a great event. The camp out, bon fire and rest stops make for a fantastic weekend.
I hope to return for 2025!
Looks like some sweet gravel up there.

Was a bit pressed for time, and as you know, not a lot of support options. However, I hope to ride the 180km in 2025 as part of the 20th Anniversary.

Had to split early, Hurricane $hithead was inbound at the time.

Conway, where the men are men and the sheep run scared.
Your not in Florida anymore......come to NY and Ill show you some stuff in the lower hudson valley.
Did you take in the Nutmeg Nor’easter while in the north east.
Afraid not. My visit to the area was fleeting. I hope to return in 2025, love New England... except for the Winters :)

Go to Treehouse brewing for pizza & 🍻
