In 1569 Akbar captured the fort and it was under Mughal rule until its capture by the Marathas.

23:20 that's a technique used in ancient times to store water in mountains, you'll thought that water they carried from base but actually that water is stored from nearby source of water, in India almost in every fort on hills you'll find this water storage area, they're built in such a way that they don't get evaporated easily, when these facilities were in use at that time water must be clean but now no one uses it so they don't bother to change anything.

kalinjar fort was one of the capitals of chandela empire (area similar to bundelkhand), other being khajuraho. khajuraho is more famous because of the erotic sculptors. kalinjar was strategically very important for anyone with a desire to rule over India. It was probably in prominence during the gupta rule. chandellas were probably governors of kannauj empire who ruled vast parts of northern India, later they broke away and became independent. After turkish conquest of north india (delhi sultanate but before mughals) many tried to capture this fort but failed. In fact, sher shah suri died here trying to capture this fort because the cannon ball exploded due to very high walls. His son built a mosque there.
Also, worth mentioning is that the rulers have built some marking everywhere there is water. This is helpful when enemies army circle the fort and due to hot weather it may not be possible to go down the hill. It is currently being maintained by archeological survey of India, but there are allegations that it is not being done properly and that ASI is interested only in mughal arhitecture due to ideological reasons.
Only mughal king akbar was able to capture the fort for sometime. Later under raja chatrasal of panna (near khajuraho), bundelkhand became independent again and no one could capture it. When the king grew old, he divided his state. Gave one part to the maratha with its capital at gwalior, although gwalior is very old and also strategically very important, in fact india's oldest symbol of zero is found in one of the temples at gwalior. one of the seats of power was at Kalpi nearby. When the british took over, they found the fort was too strong so they destroyed its walls and made it fade into history.

Chandela kings were prominent before the rajasthan forts. You may see unique structural styles and heavy carvings of different era. There are a few temples built later during the bundela period which has maratha influences in the same complex.
It is worth noting that this region has even older history as archeological evidences.

ASI have to change their mindset and work for the maintenance and restoration of the monuments. Why do the governments (State and central) think that these places need only security and someone to issue tickets?☹️ We should wake up before it is too late. As such, most of the present generation has no inkling about our glorious past due to various reasons. It is the duty of the government to take more initiative and interest to preserve these for posterity. If development is important for a Nation so also its past history.

@@krishnaprem2089 History is subjective. Besides much of it has already been stolen or destroyed. This area is not a well developed region. Anyway, as there are less people here, it is better for environment and ecology. Many of the villages nearby are 1000 years old with many beautiful temples and townplanning. However, with modern technology, we can see and visit, virtually such places. In olden temples, statues representing stories from purana and Upanishad are represented. Gupta Dyasty existed from 250 BC to 100 BC their kingdom spread from east coast of Africa ETHIOPIA to Pragyasthala South America. The polynesians especially the Queen of Tahiti claimed their ancestry to Gupta Empire. It was during the reign of king Samudragupta Indian Empire spread the most.Samudraguta placed the protoaustroloid aborigines from India in Australaya or modern day Australia to protect the merchant navy ships to sail safely upto the coast of Peru through malacca strait as there were Pirate ships who used to loot the merchant ships.Peru in Marathi means Guava.

it is incredible you are going to the places that most Indians don't know. lot of these places have no mention in India's history books which have been written by Britishers and leftist historians with vested interest so that there won't be Pride for the nation among Indians. most Indians have no clue about advanced civilization they had. it is seen in so many occasions. people who have studied in top schools and Universities in the country and then went abroad for work. each year hundreds of thousands of Indians with billions of dollars of education leaving the country. in NASA 70% of the scientists and USA and UK lots of top doctors n engineers are of Indian Origin. lot of top brands in the world like Google Microsoft Twitter Pepsi Adobe Chanel Inmarsat Vimeo IBM Mastercard Micron Technology, Palo Alto Networks, Arista Networks, Diageo, Global Foundries, NetApp, Deloitte, Vmware have Indian CEOs. if people have pride in their country why would they leave. yes there are problems in the nation but if all the brilliant minds leave then could there be a solution.

When you are proud, you lead. When you don't proud on your existence you follow. This is what Indians are doing right now.

It was 1988 I think and we had gone to Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh to escape the heat, only to realize that the way back was through Pathankot and the Punjab was closed to tourists due to the unrest. We needed money but couldn't get any, so we had to travel with what we had. Our rupees only stretched to a third class ticket to Allahabad, 22 hours away!
